If you were surprised by comments from Senators of the Minority Caucus on the failure of the PSC to regulate Innovative Telephone, we have deciphered the political double-talk and hereby present our translation. Sen. Russell stated: “Why was he [Prosser] allowed to squander million of dollars, when millions in employees’ pension contributions were not paid?” Translation: Why are we [Senators] allowed to squander VI Government funds when hundreds of millions in unfunded liabilities continue to plague the GERS pension fund? Sen. James stated: “The more that is unearthed by the court-appointed trustee, Stan Springel, the more we realize how derelict the Public Service Commission was in their duty to regulate Jeffrey Prosser and the telephone company.” Translation: The more corruption that is unearthed by federal agencies, the more we realize how derelict the Virgin Islands Legislature has been in our duty to perform oversight of the Virgin Islands Government. Sen. James stated: “It appears that it is not a matter of ‘if’ but rather ‘when’ some type of criminal action is filed as a result of blatant disregard for the utility company’s financial stability.” Translation: It appears that it is not a matter of ‘if’ but rather ‘when’ the people of the Virgin Islands [...]

#15 – Senator Russell resolving to remember he’s a lawyer the next time he decides to suggest his “crime fighting” proposal. The last thing we need is a proposal that works in favor of criminals & their defense attorneys. #14 – Governor deJongh resolving to put competent leadership in the VI Police Department. Ignoring the offers of support from the Virgin Islands Retired Police Organization (VIRPO), while at the same time whining about the lack of officers, is a recipe for failure and disaster. It’s time for “Operation Clean Sweep”. The community deserves to be safe year-round, not just during Festival and Carnival. #13 – St. Croix Senators resolving to work together towards a common goal of improving the Crucian quality of life. Forget your individual agendas and personal egos and work together to benefit the exceedingly patient people of St. Croix. #12 – Heads of departments and agencies resolving to quit the practice of handing out lofty contracts to “perform” studies and “complete” tasks that can be handled by citizens of the Virgin Islands. Some of these contracts can be performed by high school and/or UVI students as classroom projects at little or no cost to our government. #11 [...]
