The lack of a running mate has forced Sen. Terrence “Positive” Nelson to withdraw his formal candidacy for Governor and refocus his efforts on retaining his seat in the Virgin Islands Legislature. But Nelson remained adamant that voters must remove the “tyrant” in Government House, even if the vote they now cast in that race will not be for him and said that fear of repercussions may have played a role in his ability to find a candidate for lieutenant governor. At a news conference Wednesday morning, Nelson, a candidate of the Independent Citizens Movement (ICM) Party, elaborated on a detailed platform that included his stands on numerous issues including crime, health care, infrastructure, the financial health of the Territory and energy, including an assertion that the VI Water and Power Authority should be replaced by a publicly owned utility. But after outlining his position, Nelson began to speak of the unexpected challenges he faced in finding a running mate and his grave disappointment in the fact that no one had yet to “come forward” to join him in his quest for Governor. And he intimated that the reluctance of qualified citizens to come forward and join him came in part [...]

We may have a glimpse into one more team that will be vying for the Office of the Governor in November. Sen. Terrence “Positive” Nelson, gubernatorial candidate from the Independent Citizens Movement Party, announced on the radio today that he has chosen a running mate, and while he did not name the individual, he said that he and his chosen teammate were “born” to run for the two highest offices in Virgin Islands Government. Public belief is strong that the potential running mate is Michael Bornn. No stranger to VI politics, Bornn is a former Commissioner of Tourism and was a candidate for governor himself when he ran with running mate Marty Golden in an unsuccessful bid against former Governor Charles Turnbull in 2002. Nelson did not specify when a formal announcement will be made. For now, we send the question to you. Share on Facebook

Senator Terrence “Positive” Nelson reaffirmed his intention to run for Governor of the Virgin Islands at a news conference on Wednesday. The three-term St. Croix senator, member of the Independent Citizens Movement (ICM) party, has been the top vote getter on St. Croix in the last two elections. He did not announce a running mate, but said he has two top candidates, one from St. Thomas and one from St. John. positive announces He said he would announce his running mate as soon as plans were concrete, but assured the community it would be someone who wants good government and has the talent to oversee the workings of the banking and insurance industries. In addition to his experience as a senator, Nelson outlined his background in teaching, labor relations and community activism and said he will continue to be proactive in promoting accountabilty. Relative to the ongoing matter of Governor John P. deJongh, Jr.’s use of public funds to renovate his private residence at Estate Mafolie, Nelson said the matter should be handled by the courts, particularly “since there’s been no remorse,” shown by the Governor. He emphasized that his stand on the matter was not related to his candidacy, but that the Governor’s [...]
