Government House is most distressed at Senator Donastorg’s assertions that public funds have been used inappropriately to renovate Governor John deJongh, Jr.’s private residence.
So distressed, in fact, that Government House Communications Director Jean Greaux was compelled to respond by saying, “If Sen. Donastorg believes that he has evidence that such funds were used then he should do what any citizen of the territory should do when he, or she, believes that the law is being broken, and that is to contact the proper legal authorities, such as the attorney general or the inspector general, and present that evidence.” Read the rest of this entry »

Government House continues political hires
ST. THOMAS – Senator Adlah “Foncie” Donastorg said Friday that Government House continues politically driven hiring despite a year-long “hiring freeze” and at the expense of less well connected Virgin Islanders.
Earlier this week Donastorg obtained documentation from the Department of Agriculture indicating that two individuals were laid off from the Department late last year in order to bring in a new employee at $70,000 annually. Read the rest of this entry »

The U.S. Virgin Islands is one of the most (if not the most) lucrative places in the Caribbean.. Millions and millions of dollars flow in and out of our economy on a pretty regular basis. Yet, we are plagued with socioeconomic crises that threaten to totally destroy our very fabric of life. How far down the road of desperation must the people in our community travel until they see some hope?

This NOPA is for the individual who Senator Hill got a salary increase for as he became Senate President. This individual is in fact a classified employee who experienced a 65% salary increase on the heels of a hiring freeze. They eliminated one position and created another classified position which actually violates the collective bargaining agreement. Note the dates of the signatures and when the process started.

At a recently concluded Senate Finance Committee meeting it was disclosed that the company that operates the video lottery terminals (VLT’s) in the Virgin Islands, Southland Gaming, owes the Government of the VI (GVI) $22 million and counting. Not included in this collectible, is a smaller but significant sum of money (approximately $4 million) owed to the Bureau of Internal Revenue for uncollected Gross Receipt Taxes.
