We’re Taking A Break

November 8, 2012

We’re taking a break.

The election is – sort of – over. Depending on what reports you believe, there are between 3,000 and 3,500 uncounted ballots out there. And based on what we know about the votes that were cast, it’s likely that when they are counted, they will only add to the confusion we feel about the outcome.

Before we go on, our thanks to those on St. Croix who supported our candidate and President Michael J. Springer, Jr. Your support means a lot to us and our gratitude is sincere.

But what puzzles us is how it can be that a community that is outwardly so needful of change, so tired of the status quo, so tired of being played, would support with the majority of its votes a candidate whose very eligibility to run remains an unresolved issue.

What’s done is done. And it tells us that there is political value in playing to the lowest common denominator and that all evidence to the contrary, bluster can overtake substance and perception can overtake reality.

To the few who won who do bring some rational thought to the table, good luck. You’re going to need it to advance substantive change through the 30th Legislature as it relates to issues that affect St.Croix.

Meanwhile, we’re taking a break.

We invite you to continue to blog as we still believe that CIF is a viable forum for your opinions about what’s happening locally and globally.
