Well, It’s Going To Be An Interesting Couple Of Days; Blog Your Thoughts Here On The Legislative Session

February 8, 2012

Who can predict what will happen in the Legislature today?

Certainly not us. But there’s quite an intriguing array of possibilities!

As pressure mounts for action to solidly clarify the status of the leadership involved in the bribery scandal that has demanded our attention for the past few days, the Legislature convenes today in an atmosphere of skepticism and distractedness at a time when focus is key.

The Governor has stated that the allegations are just rumors and lies. Yet, national media continues to carry and validate the story by its sheer ongoing visibility.

Will Sen. Terrence Nelson bring forth his motion to recall the Governor? And if so, what kind, if any, support will he get? Is this the right time for this type of action or is it, as some have questioned, simply another opportunity grab with no real hope of passage?

What will be the recommendations on the financial crisis – we are well into February, and the deficit clock is winding down. Will they relent and pass the increase in the gross receipts tax the Administration has been seeking? Will they go to the Government Employees Retirement System for a loan? Will they propose something entirely different? And whatever they propose, does anyone have the votes to pass it?

And let’s not forget about the Bovoni lease that’s on the table for Alpine energy. It ‘s hard to imagine that they need any more information to make a decision on the waste-to-energy proposal. And although there have been hearings since last it came to the body for consideration, nothing substantive has changed. So what will they do?

Have there been any new conversations with Hovensa? It’s going to be difficult to set a financial course, let alone develop a recovery plan, until we know what’s on the table with the refinery.

Will a two day session be enough?

Blog your thoughts, comments and observations here. It promises to be an interesting couple of days.

Russell must be in the same predicament as Hansen, why else is he deferring the ousting if her?

This a good story for the Daily Caller!

Marooned1 If WMA is moved back to DPW or even under the Office of the Governor the whole bidding and contracting process can no longer be done in secret in the back room as now. I think that the sooner you shut them down as a runaway agency with no regard or direct accountability for and to the people in general, the better.

And they passed more gross receipts taxes on to all of us. EVERYTHING we buy will go up in cost.

And small business will collapse under additional taxes. What are they thinking? ALL who voted for the Dowe amendment is in the tank for the governor.

    Remember in November!

An increase in gross receipts gives them more money to steal. How could two stealators be absent, something more important.?

We pay them to be in sessions and to vote in sessions. And pay them well.

No excuse. They should have been there for the votes. They knew being in the majority and Loud Mouth White gaining support for the bill/amendment was going to happen. They let us down when we needed them.

Reminds me of how act 6905 was passed. Sneaky and dirty dem all.

They’re killing the small businesses which is the backbone of any economy by increasing the gross receipt taxes. Our credit rating has lowered to BB+ for general obligation and BBB (the lowest possible tax rating that Fitch recognizes)for gross reciept taxes. With Hovensa closing Fitch is even rethinking that, so to borrow more money on top of that is going to kill our economy. It just ticks me off to hear people still defending this joke of a governor.

Yes, they (the Senate Majority) are killing the small businesses——but at the behest of their business-governor.

Yet, the business community continues to support deJongh!

    Unreal!

    Remember in November.

I will vote for anyone who has not EVER worked in the government before and has common sense.

White is the poster child for term limits. He is a drunken bozo who needs to be gone. Old time politics need to go away along with the corruption.

@ EWO 10:40 You have to remember that a few in the business community are in on plans that do not include you, low income individuals, and the middle class. They will bear the crap until pay out time. Walk outside your home or business and take a long hard look around you and there you will see the answer why ,some even after losing their shirt and draz they are still subservient and beholding.

It may have been a set up by the governor……yesterday he spoke at a chamber meeting and said he didn’t need the additional gross receipts tax!!!!!!

If he vetoes the bill, the senators will REALLY look bad for passing it against what the people wanted…..no more taxes and no more borrowing.

Egg gonna be on all the majority senators who voted for the increases, Hill, Russell, Richards, White, Hansen, Sanes, Sprauve.
More anger and reason to vote them out this year.

Malone could fool you with that mother sick thing, shawn sell out long time, whith tell him he better leave, how much times his mother has been sick and he did not go see her, people know better, what we need to check is who pay for his trip? did we the people pay? White told him to leave if he was not going to vote the way he wanted him to.

    @Anonymous 1:38

I agree with you, how convenient

  17. Anonymous on February 10, 2012 at 4:07 pm

The lady is very unwell for true and I know I would drop everything to be with my own mother or my child and so would most of us. I believe somebody made a decision to take advantage of the situation.

  18. Anonymous on February 10, 2012 at 4:11 pm

@ anon 1:38 So that mean John people them trying to fool the electorate again eh? They put Malone on their attack website as to help him shed he sheep clothing. I say in the garbage with him St.Thomas!
