$120 Million In New Borrowing (With A Reported $60 Million For WAPA’s Hovensa Bill?) May Be On The Table In Senate Session – The Blog Is Open

January 24, 2012

That’s what we know about “BR12-1287- The Employment Relation & Economic Recovery Act of 2012, and for other purposes” that the Legislature will be considering today.

After five days of closed door meetings, their reported solution is another $120 million in borrowing that includes $69 million owed to Hovensa by the Water and Power Authority. The other $60 million is supposed to be earmarked for salaries and tax refunds.

Last we heard, the Governor wanted $90 million to close the budget gap. Now it’s $120 million and half of that goes to WAPA?

Once again, the blog opens at 10 AM.

The governor has a chance to do true restructuring but unfortunately his motive is removal of ‘political opponents’ from employment. It’s a shame.

Am I the only one who couldn’t believe that Hill supposedly changed his mind on the borrowing bill/gross receipts bill? It seemed so weird coming from him.

So now we’re going to be $1,000,000,000+ in debt?

  6. Anonymous on January 24, 2012 at 10:49 pm

FWIW forget about the zeros they can’t count that far anyway…just say a billion dollars in debt with the GERS over 1.5 billion dollars in debt! When you divide 2.5 billion by 100,000 people left in the VI that provides a debt of $250,000 for every man, woman and child! What is so shameful is that they don’t really care.

What a cluster f*@k! Usually, it’s Cubans and others trying to escape a repressive government that are found floating on rafts and jammed in fishing boats trying to get to the US mainland. Soon, the people of the Virgin Islands, thanks to this poor excuse of a governing body, will be too broke to afford a plane ticket off the rock and will be paddling for their lives in the same direction! Oust these idiot senators now!

I agree. Remember those who voted for the GRT increase; remember them in November, especially the Chuckster.

The four STX senators who voted for the gross receipts increase need to go for sure.Russell, Hansen, Usie and Sanes.

All anti business and are obviously clueless as to the economy here. And it will get worse when Hess is gone. Already prices are on the rise with no reason, in the grocery stores.

What exactly did they do yesterday that was ‘new’ to generate revenues? More borrowing with no strings attached, another worthless economic summit to commence. Do they really think we are all that stupid not to know they have nothing to offer?
Barshinger at least offered some austerity measures……..but of course White and the other idiots knocked it down. And all of the raving and anger at the media especially Daily News for reporting the closed door meetings? They may have been borderline legal, but the people are the ones who are angry as to why they were closed door….nothing new came out of them. All a show and another free food fest on our tax dollars.

You are all toast this year. I will vote for anyone who makes sense and presents a plan to help the economy and who has never been in government before.

I like the way the number keeps moving as to how much the gov wants/needs:

$67.5 to $90 to now $120 million. With no strict accountability or line item how he will spend the money.

    No more borrowing!
    CUT – CUT – CUT!

  17. Anonymous on January 25, 2012 at 8:34 am

This fake ,ponzi government will continue to borrow and waist until they leave office or are removed.

They will continue to borrow and seek re-election as long as institutions will lend with no real chance of repayment. Got pockets that still need lining. All this talk about getting them out? Hasn’t happened before. In the event we base the 2012 election of facts rather than fish-fries; I’m sure they have their crucian parachutes.

  20. Anonymous on January 25, 2012 at 8:55 am

Nothing is going to change. They will keep spending and borrowing and paying to have the machines put them back in to do it all again.

Wake up, they don’t need us, nor do they care about us.
