$120 Million In New Borrowing (With A Reported $60 Million For WAPA’s Hovensa Bill?) May Be On The Table In Senate Session – The Blog Is Open

January 24, 2012

That’s what we know about “BR12-1287- The Employment Relation & Economic Recovery Act of 2012, and for other purposes” that the Legislature will be considering today.

After five days of closed door meetings, their reported solution is another $120 million in borrowing that includes $69 million owed to Hovensa by the Water and Power Authority. The other $60 million is supposed to be earmarked for salaries and tax refunds.

Last we heard, the Governor wanted $90 million to close the budget gap. Now it’s $120 million and half of that goes to WAPA?

Once again, the blog opens at 10 AM.

    Clueless!

You would have imagined that our elected leaders would have risen to the crises after having met in closed meetings for days.

Yesterday’s legislative session is a big disappointment!

Clearly, they have no clue as to what to do!

My advice and recommendation to them is the following:
When a person finds him ill, he seeks professional care from a physician in the medical-world; and just as how our senators find their way to the Cleveland Clinic for excellent health care, I think, they NOW need to find immediate financial advice from the financial-service world.

Our political leadership, given present conditions, are proving themselves our greatest liability!

I would not be comfortable with a government, that is notorious for recklessly squandering public funds with absolutely no kind of accountability, borrowing that amount of money. Because the government is corrupt and terrible there will be no guarantee that the money will go to do as it is “proposed” or to build de jong another house somewhere. Until there is accountability in place over the government budget, this looks like a bad idea.

I must be missing something; they voted to give the governor $120 million. And government workers are STILL going to be sent home? But what was the money for? Please explain.

    Correction: “finds himself ill..”

    Dear EYO 2012:

Yesterday’s actions by the V.I. Legislature were akin to those of the Costa Concordia’s Italian captain who, ignoring all prudence and embracing all hubris, decided to “showboat” too close to shore. Like the Costa Concordia, the S.S. Virgin Islands is now on a rocky shoal, taking on water and listing badly. And, like the Concordia’s captain, you had better believe that all those senators who voted against the measures necessary to save the ship have already “tripped” and fallen into a lifeboat to save their own “souls” without even having the decency to cry: “Abandon Ship!” With this group it is, indeed, “every man for himself and God for us all”.

There seems to be nothing that we can do to stop the misleaders. We’re at their mercy and they will show us none.

The free standing casino bill is up yet again this Friday in committee. The timing is suspicious since our elected clowns just added more borrowing with no revenue generating suggestions/legislation. This is a bad deal for STX….

    http://www.legvi.org/vilegsearch/ShowPDF.aspx?num=29-0153&type=Bill

    Hamm’s push:

    http://stcroixsource.com/print/94091

Hamm has been promoting this bill for a month now on all radio stations/shows. Redfield, Kim Jones, you name it.

The bill is being touted by Russell as a ‘revenue generator’ and a conference center and ‘recreation center’. Which of course is BS anyway you look at it and is a special interest bill for Russell’s buddy Hamm. Vargrave Richards is a consultant, so this speaks of far reaching guys with their hands out for a payoff for votes.

Here is who is on the committee with their e-mail addresses:

    smmalone1@yahoo.com 693-3599
    njames3033@yahoo.com 712-2277
glendaly_21@yahoo.com (Hansen……nice to know she has a staffer respond to e-mails and can’t be bothered to do it herself) 712-2215
    lp_hill@yahoo.com 693-3523
    cbryan@legvi.org (Sprauve…….ditto note above on Hansen) 693-3575
    tnelson@legvi.org or Positive_1@hotmail.com 712-2240
    jfuret@legvi.org (Millin-Young..another senator who can’t be bothered with e-mail) 693-3521

    And here is our boy Russell’s e-mail roneruss@gmail.com 693-3569

Note, no one but Russell is pushing this bill and has co-signed on to it.

We need to stop this thing before it becomes a reality. Forward to anyone you think wants to e-mail or call senators to voice their opinion. If it passes the economics committee, next will be the rules committee and on to the full senate for a vote.

That thieving leader of the Virgin Islands Democratic Party has destroyed the low, middle, and upper classes within Virgin Islands society.

There is only one class left and its call John P. deJongh, Jr. You saw his destruction coming and like sheep’s off to the slaughter, you allowed him to slaughter your dreams.

You have one more choice left. That is to get up, stand up, stand up for your rights during his State of Confusion address to the territory.

Operation Yellow Cedar is your last hope to stand UNITED as one and let the world hear our SOS distressed signal for help. It is time for Federal law enforcement to remove these corrupted politicians. They have become an obstruction to the territory standing back up on her feet. They have brought the UNITED STATES Virgin Islands to her knees.

It is time to bring them to their knees Federal law enforcement because no man is above the law.

What next is the question. Observing all our service stations all but two are locally own, “Stand to be corrected”. What are their plans ? I ask my self. Are these people “Arabs” expecting for us the Government to find a solution on providing and obtaining fuel for them to sale. By now, I think and you would expect that these business owners would be eagerly looking for some kind of solution or alternatives just in case we all run out of fuel in the upcoming months. LO, could you imagine all service stations out of Gas because of Hovensa. not only that, requesting senate to at least help obtain two storage tanks for them to import fuel and also store fuel. For the size of this Island they should know how much fuel each one of them can resale to us. Therefore they should anticipate a two year purchase supply. Keep our eyes open and let’s always think ahead.

Why the $600k loan on your house governor? To preempt the federal lien? Or to set aside legal fees?

    I say both.. joke

If the governor postponed his State-of-The-Territory address so he could get some pointers from what Obama had to say in his State-of-The-Union address, then he should note the part where the president said…..’the state of the union is getting stronger’.

Since the same cannot be said of the territory, there is precious little he can tell the people in the way of there being light at the end of the tunnel.

Now it’s back to the Australian Open…12.35 am my time.
