Want To “Earn” Two Degrees In A Day? Do It The Alicia Hansen Way!
How do you “earn” a bachelor’s and a master’s degree on the same day without attending a single class?
You do it the Alicia Hansen way – you buy it.
How long has it been since Hansen told the truth?
And how long is it going to take before this documented prevaricator is removed from the Senate and from our midst?
Ten years ago, in an interview with the Daily News, Hansen said she held two college degrees – a bachelor’s and a master’s degree – from St. Regis College, a Jesuit run university in Denver, Colorado.
When the Daily News checked with St. Regis, they said they’d never heard of her.
When a Daily News reporter confronted Hansen about the discrepancy, she said she was “offended” that they were checking up on her, and said she would explain everything at a news conference later that week.
But she never did.
Shortly thereafter, the newspaper got a call from a St. Regis University in Dominica, an online institution that had been exposed as a degree mill that required little more than a few hundred dollars to award you any degree you chose.
That St. Regis reported that they had conferred upon student Hansen (who they could not confirm had taken any classes) a BA in political science and an MA in public administration on the same day – June 5, 2001, and that she had achieved this startling feat with a 3.8 (out of 4.0) grade point average.
Right there, you’ve got to start wondering…
This erstwhile academic organization was allegedly accredited by the “Education Ministry of the Republic of Liberia.”
In the interest of fair reporting, the Daily News “applied” to St. Regis, offering no transcripts or other documentation of the academic or work background included in the application. The next day they got a call from the “university” with a price list of degrees for sale ($645 for a BA; $795 for a Master’s)
An additional irony is that on July 4, 2001, the day before she “earned” her degrees, Hansen had testified under oath in a deposition in a defamation case she had filed against the late Sen. Lorraine Berry. In that deposition she testified that she was a dropout, and had never graduated from college.
This pattern of pathology should be no surprise and certainly bolsters the validity of the inquiries into Hansen’s qualifications and eligibility for the Senate. Fraud and deceit, one might go so far as to say outright lying has been the modus operandi of this individual for years. And yet no one in authority has the fortitude to step forward and pluck this outrage from our midst.

The same tactics, the frivolous lawsuits, the same fantasy pronouncements about her influence and achievements, all that we are observing and challenging now exist in her documented history.
And yet – still yet – no government agency, no board, no public official will take the simple steps – steps supported by the law – to remove her.
But some things have changed for the better. Unlike 10 years ago, there are others, like Colleen Clarke and her colleagues, who have joined with Crucians In Focus and Freemansground, to publicly, and persistently, challenge her presence in the Legislature – when the likes of the Board of Elections and the Attorney General’s office lack the wherewithal to do so.
And there is still the chance that Sen. Neville James, who stated publicly that he would raise the issue in the Legislature –will do so – even though the results of the CIF poll show that the public has little faith that he will.
Prove the public wrong, Senator James. Raise your hand; raise your voice, and remove the interloper from the Senate floor. Clearly none of your colleagues has had the courage to even address the issue, although nothing is stopping them from doing so.
Now, as we face some of the most critical legislative action in our history, there is no room for imposters.
This would be funny if it wasn’t so obscene.
How long are we going to suffer these fools? And this is what we expect to get us out of this mess?
We may as well just shut it down now.
Why is it only on Neville? The whole senate could put her out. I think we ascribe more responsibility to the three minority senators who together do not have enough votes to pass anything even if they acted. Then we absolve the others by never hallenging them to stand up to the plate.
Why has the senate not appointed a special prosecutor for Mafolie.? Give me a damn break.
Alicia as a senator is a joke. I still till this day do not believe she was reelected. I think she was placed on the senate to disrupt the government.
The actions described in the above article show a pattern of misconduct by Alicia Hansen. It’s easy for me to state the following:
Whether it be a misdemeanor or a felony, she is a CONVICT, a CRIMINAL convicted of a crime in a court of law.
The whole argument over moral turpitude is one big red herring which exposes the lack of moral & ethical backbone in our electoral, executive, judicial & legislative systems.
It’s time to stop enabling this fraud… Do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do… Hansen step down!

Because some are no even qualified to skin a fish, but have huge mouths and constantly rant and rave about, file frivolous lawsuits against business and even them selves and government. All making the big bucks and perks off of the people.
Any senator with a backbone and an ounce of dignity and respect for the institution, should out her on the senate floor (today would be a good day) and get rid of her. She is a crook, scam artist and illiterate person who knows no shame. She NEVER should have been allowed to run in the first place if Abrahamson and the corrupt board of BOE had done their du-diligence in the first place.

I (we) have been stating all along, that any legislative or executive candidate should hold a legitimate college degree. I don’t care if it isn’t required as a prerequisite to run for office in this territory, it should be. And if not, we can still place that expectation on any candidate during the campaign and election process. And it is very easy to check for fraudulant degrees like Chucky’s and God know who else in legislature. We have to catch these frauds in their lies before they get elected!

I take exception to your statement. I am a self made- highly licensed and certified engineer. College Educated? I’ve seen recent MBA’s who didn’t have the management sense of a doorknob.
Without any college, I have managed government contracts worth more than $5MM (almost solely), designed structural, electrical and pneumatic systems, written highly technical specifications, operating guides and other technical papers…
No, I think a concise resume which is thoroughly vetted, a background check and credit check- that should be the way to weed out any frauds…
In as much as Alicia Hansen is as despicable and disgraceful a loud mouth as you’ll ever meet,the body in which she fraudently serves,the senate,is ultimately responsible for the continued shame and disgrace this woman keeps
heaping upon that institution and the people of the Virgin Islands.
Since she does’nt have the good sense to remove herself from the position she does not deserve to occupy,then she must be thrown out by her peers.

The first thing that struck me concerning the first photo is the exterior of the building.
It depicts a condition which permeates this community: If we can’t manage, tame, cut or rid the grass at our main entrances, how in heaven’s sake can we tackle more complex issues or conditions?
The discipline to handle the smaller-things allows us the ability to handle the larger-things!

Having a piece of paper doesn’t signify/guranty a person has the ability to perform…..as many colleges/universities are graduating students who are best described as ‘functional illiterates’.Some of whom can barely fill out a job application.
