St. Croix Board Of Elections Recall Petitions Filed January 12; Community Has 60 Days To Collect Signatures

January 14, 2012

Those who are serious about recalling members of the St. Croix Board of Elections can now join an organized movement to make that happen.

Recall Petitions for Election Board members Ana L. “Anita” Davila, Carmen Golden, Dodson K. James, Lisa Harris-Moorhead, Esq., Rupert W. Ross, Jr., and Raymond J. Williams were submitted to the Election office the afternoon of Thursday, January 12, 2012. Effective January 12, 2012, recall petition circulation began. The community has 60 days, from the January 12th submittal date, to collect signatures.

Recall organizers are holding a signature drive and information session Monday, January 16, 2012, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in front of the Yuca Headquarters, Buddhoe Park, in Frederiksted.

In accordance with the Revised Organic Act of 1954, these election board members have been charged with lack of fitness for public office, neglect of duty, and corruption. We have 60 days, from the January 12th submittal date, to collect signatures.

Attached at the end of this article are a copy of the press release related to this initiative and the instructions for those who are interested in circulating a petition. Circulators are urged to read the instruction sheet as it will be critical that petitions meet all guidelines and leave no room for disqualification once submitted.

Organizers are awaiting an official letter from Supervisor of Elections John Abramson with the actual number of signatures required for each member, as well as the deadline for collecting signatures. However, petition circulation has begun and the 60-day mark is on or about March 12, 2012. Recall Petitions can be viewed and downloaded at the end of this article.

One of the main reasons to push for a successful recall of the BOE members is so that the electorate can demonstrate our ability to act if we feel that our officials are working against us. No government should be allowed to work against the people it is sworn to protect and represent. A successful recall has never been achieved in the Virgin Islands. The behavior of many of our elected officials shows that they do not believe we have the conviction to try. A majority of voters is required to recall. This could and should not be the wishes of a few. The recall process is rightfully a very difficult one, however, the requirements are being interpreted to prevent the process as much as possible. Our right to influence our government between elections is being threatened. The very process of elections is under question. Simple ACTION is required: Sign the petitions being circulated, and prove your ability to affect your own government.

Could it be that Usie is so far up the governor’s bum, that he is what is causing the governor to have trouble breathing? Just asking.

The recall circulators have collected thousands of signatures. We deliberately have not consolidated exact numbers yet, but a safe estimate is in the thousands. There are those in elected positions who keep saying that there is a small but noisy minority who are against what is happening and what they are doing. They are telling us that most of us approve their actions on our behalf. Prove them wrong. Protect the power of your vote. Sign the petitions.

I have signed the six recall petitions, and it was like taking medication to ease an anxiety attack. Redfield is telling us to take a deep breath, see a therapist, think positively, see the glass as half full, blah, blah, blah ……..

The senators voting against the recall got part of the bribe.

Did they win the court case that was supposed to correct the definition of the threshold?

  13. "Stuck in Moderation" on February 12, 2012 at 9:21 pm

The definition is not clear to Abramson, therefore we must succeed in recalling the current BOE members that rehired him as supervisor. We recall the BOE, fire Abramson, hire a new supervisor, then have the threshold interpreted correctly.

    Ba da bing!!

Recall petitions will be at the Agricultural Fair!!!! Stations will be set up near each of the three entrances (west, east and main gaits). Circulators will be inside the fair, but they are not allowed to set up a table inside. Use this opportunity to sign the recalls. Time is short!

Does anyone know what is in the lawsuit against the board?

  16. Anonymous on February 18, 2012 at 2:37 pm

Abramson is Correggio. The judge will confirm the number which will prove trying to recall BOE members is futile.

  17. Anonymous on February 19, 2012 at 7:55 am

If we have corrupt government officials capable of paying for predetermined election outcomes with machines that everyone knows can be manipulated without leaving a trace, the only legal recourse we now have is the recall initiative. Do we, the electorate, now passively watch as this right is taken away? It’s easy to say that the recall effort is a waste of time, but what is the alternative? It is amazing to see that some people are so comfortable with the excessive corruption we have been living with that they won’t lift a finger to change it even though it is increasingly obvious that most of us will have to pay for it. Look at Greece!
Abramson is Corrreggio only in his attempt to create illusion. What self-respecting judge would support his ridiculous interpretation of the Organic Act?

I just bought one gallon of milk on St. Criox for $8.99 ! That’s just below 10% of $100.00
The store keeper commented. “that’s the going price right now and he expects it to go higher shortly.” “It’s that way because there’s no local choice and the cost of fuel and electricity”
All of you, who keep defending the administration for whatever reason, have this idea you are immune to the coming storm. God help these Virgin Islands
Sign the board of election recall petition.

We wouldn’t be paying that kind of milk cost today if “we” invested in the FDA grading machine that would have allowed Island Dairies to keep the grass fed cows producing locally available milk products which our population could afford as well as exporting to the hotels and cruise ships. That along with retro fitting the plant with alternative energy options, they would have been able to stay ahead of the cost of electricity. Instead “we” give $250 million to a MULTI BILLION $$$$ company to produce rum.
