Call It “Negativity” If You Like. We Still Want Some Answers From Sen. Russell

October 8, 2011

CIF President Michael J. Springer, Jr.

Those who challenge the status quo are filled with “negativity” and the public should be warned!

That’s the message CIF President Michael Springer and other callers to Sen. Ronald Russell’s radio program received when they challenged Russell’s response to the recent raid at the Legislature and his failure to respond to the Governor’s address on the FY2012 budget last night.

The last straw was today’s revelation that Russell is hiring counsel to examine whether the Federal raid on the Legislature was legally appropriate.

Really?

Sen. President Ronald Russell

We want to know why Russell is wasting our money challenging the Federal action. Has the delusion gone so far that the thinks that 25 Federal Agents would descend on the Legislature without the proper authority? And what are you worried about, Senator? Might it be that there is some information on those file servers they took along with whatever documentation they confiscated from Sen. Alvin Williams’ office?

So, in light of our financial “crisis,” let us save you the money it’s going to cost to hire this “expert in the Fourth Amendment.”

There was nothing unlawful about the search or seizure of anything the Federal agents took from the Legislature on Wednesday – and you would be well advised to stay out of their way – they’ll be contacting you soon enough, we believe.

Meanwhile, Springer and others listened Saturday to Russell’s Chief of Staff Roy Delemos and Policy Advisor Carol Burke brush off numerous callers who challenged Russell’s performance and when Springer called to ask for some proof of any action Russell has taken to improve the quality of life in the Virgin Islands, this was Delemos’ response.

You want the challenges to stop? Show us some evidence, some output, from all these good people trying to do what’s best for the Virgin Islands. Until then, the questions will continue, call it “negativity” if you will.

Russell, who didn’t show up until the end of the program, should seriously rethink the perception that Delemos and Burke are creating around his already tarnished reputation. In this same program, Delemos went on to try to justify the Legislature’s illegal salary reduction for Government employees, saying that contracts need not be honored if the Government does not have the money to pay.

Unfortunately, and quite conveniently, Russell, who was in the studio a full 15 minutes before the end of his Saturday radio program, was not able to respond to any of these questions as they continued to take calls until time ran out. But rest assured, he said, he’ll get something out there to respond to these critical issues.

We’ll be listening.

Have to disagree with you on this one, Mike.

We should not assume the Feds had the law behind them. In Washington, DC a few years ago a district appeals court found the FBI had no right to remove documents from Rep. Jefferson’s Congressional Office.

These documents were privileged information, documents the Judiciary should not be privy to if our systems of checks and balances is to be preserved.

It’s vitally important Russell haul in front of him the people who signed off on this unprecedented action including Magistrate Ruth Miller, the US Attorney, the district FBI head, and most especially Mr. Peru from the Inspector General’s office who was in on the raid.

This “raid” was heavily covered in news venues including Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal. It makes the VI Senate look like a band of crooks especially since even at this late date FBI spokesman Harry Rodriquez refuses to even acknowledge it was Sen. Williams’s office that was searched.

We’re covering the case in my blog here:

It is time for teachers at Cancryn stand up. From what I am hearing even paraprofessionals have more power than teachers. The administration at Cancryn likes to bully its teachers. Paraprofessionals are trained and given teaching positions. What is more problematic is the clique of teachers who are the only ones sent on training such as AVID and Plato. What impact have they had on Cancryn School which cant make AYP. Their resumes contioue to grow though. The head coumjselor at Cancryn Does not even counsel but is touted as a child advocate. At least when Itaught there the younger teachers respected veteran teachers. I agree Cancryn needs to be audited. Corruption glues this clique together.

@Gary, as you have so righfully pointed out, Hill is NO war hero. The badges he claims to have are badges of service NOT Valor. There is a huge difference in showing up for work everyday (service) and risking your life in combat to save others (valor).

Hill’s biography is as disingenuos and misleading as his tenure as Senator.

If there were medals for greedy, self-serving midget men. He would be the first nominee. He will not be Governor around these parts. No way, no how.

Hill is as phony as a three dollar bill. He has been bilking the Vi for years ever since he was administrator for STT. Now there is a high paid do nothing job. Remember Pedro Pete on STX??? Hew did nothing andnow he and Dodson James traded jobs……..Pete at Parks and Rec for $85,000 a year……..Dodson at $85,000 a year and still doing nothing and the wife, a hairdresser, getting $62,000 a year to open at Categata with another employee who makes $50,000………gee over $100,000 to open up a gym where classes are from 8am to 10am and 5pm to 7pm. Nice work if you can get it.
Now back to Russell and the topic at hand. He is a lying jerk who should not have been elected. He barely made it into the senate and now he is acting like a God of sorts.
I suggest we all call his office and ask where the transparency is……we can’t even get e-mail addresses of senators or office or central staff on the LEGIT website. For that mater, we need to call all of the majority and ask why he is still president.
STOP spending our money foolishly. The Feds did nothing wrong…….we don’t need to spend more money to a goofy attorney. Why in heck can’t you do the research or your lame JLH wife consultant??????

You will be the worse president of the senate yet Russell……..stop the coverup.

If Ronnie has so much money in the legislature budget, he needs to cut some of it out. I think the Williams charges will be far greater than all of us are speculating.
Russell just wants the case thrown out for improper search and seizure. Fat chance that will happen and Williams can join the rest of the majority crime laden group of thugs.

I think Ronnie is more concerned with all the evidence that MAY fall into the “Plain View” Doctrine.

The MIS server is an environment-rich system with a whole heap of digitally recorded “goodies.”

By hiring a Constitutional-lawyer, he hopes to find a spec of constitutional violation regarding the scope of the search warrant. He hopes then that every “fruit” derived from the search would be deemed inadmissible in court.

Ronnie’s chess move is not a “tactical” move to protect the pawn-Williams; Ronnie’s move is more “strategical” in defence of the Queen, Knights, Bishops, and Rooks of his Majority.

    EWO

Great opinion. I never thought of the ‘unintended consequences’ of the search. Thanks!
