People planning to attend the Gubernatorial debate at WTJX studios wait outside as police investigate a reported bomb threat.

(Update: The debates have begun after a 35 minute delay to investigate the reported bomb threat.)

CIF President Michael Springer has just reported that the area around the WTJX TV Studio is cordoned off by police after a reported bomb threat was received at the station where the Gubernatorial debates were scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

There are no details at this time about the manner in which the alleged threat was received or any other information about the situation or its potential impact on the scheduled debates.

Springer said that police have closed the road around the studio and that approximately 30 people are waiting across the street near the Post Office waiting for more information. Springer said candidates Sen. Adlah “Foncie” Donastorg and James “Jimmy” O’Bryan were at the scene when he arrived.

At approximately 7 p.m. Police instructed everyone in the area to turn off their cellphones.

We will keep you updated on this story as it develops. It is not known at this time whether the debates will proceed.

We will keep this comment thread open – if anyone has additional information please feel free to post.

Be careful everyone!

    To Soldier Carb:

I agree. I have been listening to 1620 for about a year, and I noticed that Jamila has a tendency to say what is on her mind without stopping to think about the consequences of her words. She needs to understand that she has a fan base that takes everything she says very seriously. She needs to exercise better judgment.

Sort of reminds me of the “Burn Baby Burn” remarks made on an urban LA radio station that sparked the Watts riots that burned down much of East Los Angeles. One would expect that talk show hosts are responsible enough they would not go there…but since some are always talking about blowing the conch shell, hating “collies” and blaming “white people” for all the ills of society, you can easily understand how they are priming the pump for a big one. Mr. P. needs to be warned what will happen to his properties if he continues to continence these flirtations with closet revolutionaries and as the result of some rumors or exaggerations broadcast on the air designed to incite.

    @ ‘T’:

……..not only does she have a ‘fan base’,she, more importantly, has an obligation to defend and honor,as does all employess, all policies
and conditions of the establishment at which she works.
