If there’s a more direct way to ask the question, we don’t know what it is.

In a radio address today, Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Sen. Adlah “Foncie” Donastorg challenged Gov. John P. deJongh, Jr., to answer the question with a truthful answer

Donastorg posed the question in a statement that included his first public comments on the domestic violence charges he is facing; charges he was quite clear he believes are a “political prosecution”  demonstrating an “horrific abuse of power” and created by the deJongh administration to  damage his credibility as a candidate in the upcoming election.

Donastorg said he learned of the charges shortly after notifying federal officials of deJongh’s misuse of $490,000 in public funds to enhance his private residence at Estate Mafolie on St. Thomas. He said that he was informed that a police report on the alleged incident had been filed on St. Croix, and that he went voluntarily to see what the report was about and why the complaint was filed on St. Croix.

Donastorg validated beliefs that have been swirling in the public domain about deJongh operatives who he said were complicit in fabricating the charges against him.

Shortly after he was charged, the alleged “victim” in the episode began to make public statements, through her attorney, that the incidents as reported were not true; that she had been offered a bribe for her testimony; that she had pointed out discrepancies in her statement to police and the statement that was eventually submitted to the court; and ultimately, that she will not testify against Donastorg – a situation that has prompted the charging parties to bring in an “expert” witness to testify about the behavior of “abused” individuals.

“I am the man John deJongh fears the most” – Donastorg

Donastorg addressed the attempted bribery allegation in his statement, saying that $150,000 had been offered to secure the witness testimony against him. He went on to say the even the choice of judge to hear the case, newly appointed Superior Court Judge Adam Christian, was further proof of the political conspiracy against him.

Donastorg went on to sharply criticize deJongh for operating a negative campaign, in opposition to radio ads the governor is broadcasting declaring his intention not to do so; and also challenged him to instruct his “operatives” to shut down websites believed to be operated by Administration supporters that have most recently targeted the 16-year-old son of a radio host who supports an opposition candidate.

With less than three weeks until the Democratic Primary election on September 11, Donastorg strongly asserts his innocence and said that the vehement opposition to his candidacy delivers a critical message about the strength of his campaign.

Massachusetts. I know for sure they did. I followed that story. They were the ones that got our government to allow the negotiations to go on with chaves. Actually they started before they were allowed and then just continued. That is why today they are blessed with lower than national average gas prices. If they can do it, we have Chaves’s refinery on our home soil!!!! What kinds of deals do you think we could get from him. No one has ever tried, and this is not the first time AFD has talked about doing this. Also, the language barrier will not be a problem, due to the fact that Donastorg is fluent in spanish! No translator will be needed, so nothing will be lost in translation!

These have included Philly, Boston, the Bronx, along with cities in Maine, Vermmont and Rhode Island. It was highly publicized Time ran a big story.

    Governor? A response please…

  5. Only in the VI on August 29, 2010 at 4:23 pm

The only one at the debate that actually gave thought to our current energy situation was Mr. Donastorg.

Not to disrespect any of the candidates, but I do hope that Luz and Jimmy put the people of the VI first and leave the race for the election. We need to defeat de Jongh and Donastorg/Baptiste has the most support so that is who we need to choose to go up against de Jongh. If Luz or Jimmy had this kind of support then they would be best suited to go up against de Jongh, but they do not have this support or momentum.

Gentlemen, Luz and Jimmy please help the VI to defeat de Jongh on September 11th. Put your support behind Donastorg/Baptiste.

Donastorg/Baptiste? What a tainted option for the people to condider. One is in court next month for assaulting his teenage lover and the other is an item on dontdatehimgirl.com. I give up.

    @ Anon 8:53

So tell us where are you at in the middle of all your smear and fear spinning this morning. What is your problem? Is it that you heard the eloquent speech this morning by Sam Baptiste?

Anon the VI is moving beyond people like you because in the midst of an incoming hurricane you take time to smear good people says a lot about you.

Try smearing the governor for not preparing the territory for Hurricane Earl!

The primary is about a week away.

If this were true, then why is it still sealed?

  11. Tiredofthemess on September 14, 2010 at 5:00 pm

I would still like to know if the Governor is under a federal indictment? Has anyone questioned him further about this. Wouldn’t we as constituents who have voted this man in as a candidate for governor have the right to know if our incumbent governor will be federally indicted?

  12. Anonymous on September 14, 2010 at 7:54 pm

Congresswoman Maxine Waters of California and Rep. Charles Rangel from New York is both charge with ethics violations and under federal indictment. It’s been hush, hush as to whether or not deJongh has been charge yet for stealing $490,000 to upgrade his personal home. Which by the way, lying and stealing funds for personal use is unethical.

CIF can you do a poll for the Virgin Islanders to vote yes or no, if deJongh is under federal indictment for MAFOLIEGATE? And also add; should he be charge for such act? We need to know his before the November election.

So what happened to this indictment? Was it just BS?

  14. Anonymous on December 16, 2010 at 11:15 pm

Hey..Just about two months ago I saw a news report where federal authorities charged a US Senator for curroption commited while in office. The kicker is this came more than two years after his leaving office.

Time longer than twine. Supporters who know off and enable the Governors’s bad deed’s,need to remember this old saying .
