St. Croix Senate Candidate Michael J. Springer, Jr.

Let us be the first to make it official.

Crucians In Focus President Michael J. Springer, Jr., is now officially a candidate for Senator from the St. Croix District. Springer, who is running as an independent candidate, has filed his nomination papers with the St. Croix Board of Elections, after having secured the requisite number of signatures from his supporters.

Springer, who ran unsuccessfully in 2008, said his experience in the previous campaign, “taught me a lot about what it would take to win and I am bringing those lessons with me into this new campaign.”

His decision to change his affiliation from Democrat to independent was predicated on his belief that the Virgin Islands Democratic Party no longer represents the interests of the people of the Virgin Islands and has not demonstrated any intent to change its approach. Further, he said, “the issues I plan to focus on in this campaign affect all Virgin Islanders, regardless of party or no party affiliation.”

“I plan to refocus our efforts on the basics, on government from the ground up,” Springer said. “Those basic areas – education, crime, infrastructure – should be our focus for the immediate future. So I won’t come with millions of promises. I will commit to returning government representation to the needs of the people.”

As he is running as an independent candidate, Springer will not be on the ballot for the primary, “but just as you have heard from me on all the material issues over the past two years, you will be hearing from me on all the issues between now and the general election in November.”

Good luck, Mr. Springer!

    @ Fairness,

We plan to have polls on ALL the candidates between now and the primary (for those who will be in the primary) and between the primary and the general (for all those who remain). So you can stop testing and you’re right, it is only fair. CIF Admin

    @ Website Administrator.

Thank you. There were several previous submissions made since this morning and tonight that were more complete in the content of the inquiries. None of those went through. However, interestingly the test submissions went through.

I would support Springer only after he indicates who he is endorsing for governor.

    Observant,

You are very foolish. Michael Springer is exactly what we need in the Senate. We know he does not support de Jongh so what elese do you need to know.

Stop trying to tear down our best and brightest candidates. OK.

  10. Observant on August 12, 2010 at 2:52 pm

So, are you indicating that just because he is not a deJongh supporter that gives me grounds to support him? No.

  11. Anonymous on August 12, 2010 at 3:11 pm

How about supporting Springer because he is intelligent, hard working and has already proven that he will fight for the Virgin Islands.

Michael Springer will definitely get my vote.

I said after endorsing a governor because I want to know he is straight up and confident in doing so. Don’t wait until after the election to pick a Governor to support. That is what currently screwed the island.

Maybe all gubernatorial candidates should voice who they support for the Senate instead. That sounds like a good idea to me.
