Stagnant ponds like this one in Glyn are breeding the dengue mosquito.

Stagnant ponds like this one in Glyn are breeding the dengue mosquito.

There is Williams Delight; there is Nadir; and now there is Glyn and the surrounding areas on St. Croix where standing water is turning the landscape into a breeding ground for the dengue mosquito.

Crucians In Focus has received numerous phone calls and emails from the residents of Glyn, MonBijou and Frangipani who have tried in vain to get action from St. Croix Administrator Dodson James.

Maybe by publishing these photos we can get his attention. Or is this another example of a situation this Administration will not address until someone dies from the fever?

There is treatment for standing ponds like those pictured above and below that would help eradicate the deadly mosquito population and residents are frustrated that there is no response to their cries for action.

The funny thing is that he replaced Pedro Encarnacion because there were complaint about Pedro’s ineffectiveness and now it looks like Dodson is doing the same.

If Encarnacion and Dodson were appointed by the same ineffective leadership in Government House, we will have the same results. We need to correct this by changing the leadership from the top.

A stagnant mindset is a breeding ground for ignorance. St. Croix has for more than 40 years had a program to construct hundreds of ponds, check dams, water catchment areas by recharging the water table, preventing loss of top soil into the sea that benefits the island. These ares do provide needed water for farmers and ranchers Now if i have this correct you are proposing that some new “effective leadership” should drain the ponds to save the population from dengue. This is certainly a short sighted and totally uninformed means of mosquito abatement by taking your angst out on the water islands water supply. I just hope that if the candidate you are supporting for governor is elected that he doesn’t choose you as Commish of mosquito abatement. Even bird baths would be toast along with all those roofs on flat homes not drained fully after rainy periods. Leave the ponds alone as mosquito larva can be mitigated by larvacides and nature. If you are really concerned about stopping the proliferation of mosquitos the focus on the 10,s of thousands of tires pitched out along the roads and in the bush should interest you. Soon after Alpine Energy starts turning the tires into RDF (fuel)and producing energy from them I hope you take some time to praise those who came up with a solution to multitude of related problems.

    @ Herb,

I do not see one single word in this article that says “drain the pond” in fact it specifically states that treatment is available that could alleviate the problem. And further identifies the issue as lack of response from the Administrator, whatever the solution.

You are consistent in only one thing – your selective perception of information culled to support your illogical responses. The ever present leap to hyperbole eliminates any chance you may have of credibility on this site.

The fact that CIF allows you continue with your special brand of propaganda speaks to their belief in the First Amendment. If I was the administrator, you wouldn’t take up nearly as much space on these pages.
