Maybe Those Funds Shouldn’t Have Been “Reprogrammed” After All

July 26, 2010

How much of the Nadir flooding could have been avoided if funds had not be diverted to Estate Mafolie?

Residents watch helplessly as waters rise during last week's heavy rainfall.

Residents watch helplessly as waters rise during last week's heavy rainfall.

They said the water was running like river rapids through Nadir last week when torrential rainfall struck that flood-prone area in St. Thomas.

They watched as streets turned into sheets of fast moving water, carrying mud and debris into cars, yards and homes. They watched the level of the water in the Nadir Gut rise, and eventually overflow, as clogged output pipes and a failing system were unable to manage the flow.

They prayed that the rain would stop long enough or the levels to go down before the next wave – and they prayed that there wouldn’t be any kind of medical or other emergency, because there were periods when no aid could come in and no one could get out.

And when the clouds finally parted, and they had a chance to assess the damage, we wonder if they thought about how much of the calamity could have been avoided if the $1.3 million in reprogrammed funds from the Nadir Flood Control project had been left in place.

You remember those funds, don’t you? Those were the public funds that through the manipulations of Gov. John P. deJongh, Jr., his accomplices Sen. Carlton “Ital” Dowe, and certain other members of the Legislature,  his legal staff and Administration, ended up illegally funding the improvements at the Governor’s private home at Estate Mafolie.

Swiftly flowing water rises toward road level during flooding rains.

Those were the public funds that would have upgraded and improved the drainage systems to handle heavy rains and direct the water away from property and diminishing the potential damage to life and limb. But that did not happen. And as these pictures taken by Clarence Payne show, the consequences are severe.

So while you Nadir residents sift through the rubble, and look over your shoulders with fear whenever dark clouds gather, just remember:

As you survey the damage to your homes, remember the Governor has a beautiful new guardhouse.

As you slowly maneuver your waterlogged vehicles over roads decimated by the floods, remember that the Governor has a newly paved driveway and parking lot.

And as you struggle to protect those possessions that survived the onslaught this time, remember that the Governor is secure behind his shiny new gate.

Boycott the Luz Buzz. Too little too late.

Let’s keep it simple. If you are not for Donastorg you are for the Governor.

  7. Anonymous on July 29, 2010 at 4:13 pm

Lolo pimp-slapped Donastorg sometime last year. Donastorg cried like a little girl after he said Willis smacked him to the ground or something like that.

  8. Well, Well, Well on July 29, 2010 at 4:34 pm

Well, well, well, they Jackasses done gone buck wild in here. They say a undertaker going to bury that wicked man…guess they mean they governor after he put to rest on September 11.

They say Jackass Lolo who is facing a law suit pimp-slapped Donastorg sometime last year…well thanks for verifying the assault charges that’s the primary focus of the law suit. What’s alarming by the Jackasses assertion of this fact is that Donastorg got assaulted by Lolo Willis, an employee of the Legislature, and the de Jongh led leadership did nothing to pursue the person that assaulted a Virgin Islands senator. On the other hand, Senator Sanes was allegedly assaulted by a resident who was upset because Sanes voted to approve a bill which obligated future generations of Virgin Islands children to financial bondage. That resident was arrested and charged by the de Jongh administration selective justice system of assault of a US Virgin Islands Senator. No justice for Senator Donastorg but somehow the Jackasses think that’s funny.

Now for the boycott of the de Jongh administration installation ceremony at Freedom City. It’s never too little too late when you still have a ounce of life in your body to fight for you rights! People we are engaged in the battle of our lives. We are fighting back in the BATTLE FOR THE VIRGIN ISLANDS!

The Jackasses that comes on to this website distorting the message is all about restoring corruption. The slanders, the jokes, and the outright disrespect for the land that we all live in should be offensive to all of us. We have a way to remedy this problem. Come September 11 let’s see who will have the last laughs.

We have less than 1 1/2 months to kick that no good piece of a wife beater out of government house if the Feds don’t get to him first.

What a shame. DeWolf needs to pay back that $490,000 to repair the roads and drainage system in Nadir. I heard today on the radio that he is now looking into buying a yacht over 1 million dollars. I wonder where the monies are going to come from to make such a huge purchase. The so called Chief Exceutive feels that he is high and mighty above the VI people and refuse to ride on the ferry boat to the other territories. Unbelievable!

I heard that the yacht is for the celebration after the election and no epsten is not invited and neither your dunce

The Christians Against de Jongh are already out in full force doing the Lord’s work.

Evil wicked spirits that have taken over the Government of the Virgin Islands will be cast out for ever more.

Very disappointed at Brother Vincent Frazer for taking part in all of this corruption. Very, very, sad.

    @ Anon 11:48

Why not try writing the governor a letter expressing your disapproval of his association with Jeffrey Epstein? It’s really a shame how this governor continues to take money from this man. Epstein is paying for the Luz James installment ceremony this coming Sunday in Freedom City.
