THOUSANDS – Yes, Thousands March Into History On St. Thomas As Virgin Islanders Say “Enough”
3,000+ Virgin Islanders Take The Streets Of St. Thomas By Storm With A Clear Message: "Take Back Our Government - Take Back Our Islands"
Pay no mind to the mainstream media and their negligently inaccurate reports on what happened on Saturday on St. Thomas.
We were all there – more than 3,000 strong – in a display not seen in modern times.
We can’t describe the energy, the passion, the strength so we will let the photos speak.
The theme of the march and rally was “Unity, Accountability and Social Justice,” and started at Market Square and ended at the Emancipation Garden. Boatloads of participants came from St. John and St. Croix, and countless other locations that were represented in the massive crowd.
If there is one image that exemplifies the power of this day, it is this electrifying moment in time on the steps of the Virgin Islands Legislature. If you don’t feel a shiver down your spine at what this represents, then you don’t understand what it all meant.
Tell us what you saw, what you heard, how it felt, what it meant.
To preserve this moment in history, CIF has created a permanent page on this website to commemorate this event. For all the photos from our participation, visit Snapshots Of History.
If you would like to send a photo for inclusion on this permanent page, please email it to “admin@cruciansinfocus.com.“

Common sense collected answers us…our Governor has gone KAPOW!!!
He doesn’t care anymore, He had it, He enriched himself, He knows he is wrong, He has a conscience, He knows he will face the coming consequences, He’s afraid of tomorrow, He is not sleeping well, He’s not functioning frankly speaking.
We all need to pray for him, so he can change and settle with all who he wronged. Alot of ppl are very upset, even his own…they complain and are coughing bold utterances of hate and carting cans of kick-asses. So all the OPTIMISTIC INJECTIONS about our Governor getting another 4 years will disappoint even the Governor’s SON. Our GOD is displeased with some of the decision that resulted into damned disasters. Most of us just hope our next slate of LEADERS would be god-like through out and not greed-like. Be the CHANGE our future is expecting, Be the lamp in the darkness for our children, Be the hand that our mouths feed from and Be the ONE’S chosen with solidarity being cemented-strong.
CIF haven’t run any poll on Mapp thus far, however in the near future we will.
Good!
Where was this enthusiasm Saturday? From all this excitement you would have thought the majority would have taken the primary from Dejongh! Where did everyone go?
What you saw were the Democrats in the Primary; What we will see in the General is the “enthusiasm” you so sarcastically spoke of .
Remember, the Primary shows that only half of the Democrats want deJongh.
An incumbent with only half his party’s support is an incumbent in trouble.
I still cannot believe that after months of talking, talking and talking prior to the primary of how urgent it would be for the voters to come out,en mass, and remove the governor’s chances of being a candidate for re-election in the November campaign, that so few turned out to vote.
My posts of 5/28 and 5/29(on this topic)exhorted one and all to register and vote.
As the saying goes;’you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink’.
Over and out!!!
Soldier Crab: The wrong general was in charge and should know by now that the radical chic of the 60′s, i.e., marching, intimidation, baiting and boat trips do not determine what happens at the polls. They still use the old struggle and victimization tactics but they are useless but make for great entertainment.
Soldier Crab,
I prefer to say, ” you can lead a functional illiterate to pen and paper, but you can’t force him to either read or write.”
The voters on September 11th have proven that the Democrats(donkeys)in the Virgin Islands are now comprised of over 50% functional illiterates.
Mapp, wish you luck!
Anonymous @5.32,p.pm:
…….oh man,you killin’ me.Well said.I prefer your take on the matter.
Soldier Crab,
It is true! The Virgin Islands Democratic Party has a 53% Functional Illiteracy Rate.
Our biggest problem in the Virgin Islands is illiteracy. More specially, Functional Illiteracy.
The more functional illiterates we have, the more dysfunctional the Virgin Islands will become. That’s a fact!
Seriously, the results of the Primary should give Mapp a mandate to push for 95% literacy in the Virgin Islands.
DeJongh will not change it since he has obviously benefited by the Democratic Party whose membership represents a 53% Functional Illiteracy Rate.
If anyone doubts me, test them! Test those 53% who voted for John, and the results will shock you!
Functional Illiteracy is a very bad thing!
Now, how do you talk to the functionally illiterate? Ask Chucky!
I understand exactly where you’re coming from m’man. But if it makes you feel any better just know that the V.I.doesn’t stand alone in that regard,as other caribbean islands which have opened up their borders to allow less fortunate (and less educated ) immigrants into their country, are having to deal with the same situation.
Once settled, and they become eligible to vote, politicians are aware of their voting potential and will do and say anything to garner their votes.More than 50% of the residents in my country are non-natives.When I go home and stroll the streets of my homeland I’d be
lucky if I see two people I know within any 5 hour period of time.Same thing in St.thomas when I was last there in December of ’94.
Today, people are like strangers in thier own country and I guess we’ll just have to get used to that phenomena.
I would call them Democracy illiterates. Nobody seems to understand all the rights they have. All this marching and still nothing has changed. They will eventually though. If the VI electorate does not take care of business in November by changing the faces of the gov’t by electing new and honest people we here will suffer the consequences soon after. Who knows maybe that is what’s needed.
People just don’t know how illiterate the people/departments that are running this Island are. We need layoffs of gov’t workers and a reduction of gov’t auto usage. If this is done more can be done for our schools and GERS. Our schools really are trouble just because the education dept is out of WACK. They have $54,000,000 from the Recovery Act but can’t use it because they dont have the knowledge needed to set up the programs that are required by the grants inorder to invoice for the funds. How many of our Senators children attend our public scvhools? Not many i’m sure.
