Another $250 Million? Yes or No?

Government House, St. Croix

In one of the most significant financial decisions that has faced the Territory to date, the Legislature will determine today the fate of the most recent Administration request to borrow another $250 million to address deficits in the 2010 and 2011 budgets.

You’ve all heard the arguments on both sides; the Administration says without the loan, government will shut down in July; those who do not support additional borrowing say that more efforts should be made to cut fat from Government expenses before additional borrowing is approved.

What do you think?

Should the Legislature approve the additional $250 million in borrowing requested by the Administration?

    @ ‘Get Real’:

What is needed is a Director of Personnel who will man-up and
refuse to sign ANY NOPA’S authorizing ANYONE’S employment when
a hiring freeze is in effect.

But that may be easier said than done since the director’s position is unclassified…which means his/her boss, the governor,
can fire them for not following his orders.

Trust me,nobody wants to lose their job,O.K?

  2. The Observer on April 16, 2010 at 10:23 am

hmm…18 months and no NOPA and that nurse is still in the VI? Amazing!

  3. Get Real! on April 16, 2010 at 11:42 am

She is still here, but wonders why…….I do believe she is thinking of leaving. Nurses are in great demand in the states as they are here. She will not have a problem finding work at, most likely, a higher salary + a signing bonus.

We are very stupid to play games with health providers who choose, yes CHOOSE, to work here for the betterment of our community.
The administration needs to stop the BS with the numbers and look at who is being affected with their games.

  4. Soldier Crab on April 16, 2010 at 2:39 pm

    …..not ‘most likely’,FOR SURE.

People of the Virgin Islands, I think it time for us to bite the bullet and become our brother’s keeper. These are the times we must take a stand for the place we call home.

To the fifteen senators my request to you all if you have the balls to do it (I know Senator O’Rielly can do it, she has more than BALLS, she has OVARIES). My request to all you other Senators, deny the loan. Stop playing into John deJongh hand, and make him earn his pay. Before any loan should be allowed, let them put their money where their mouth is and cut their salary. Director Gottlieb said it will be insignificant, but guess what Debra, ITS A START.

I am a strong supporter of leading by example, but these jokers who are in control they are leading from behind. Government agencies are doing unnecessary expansions, new employees are still being hired. STOP SPENDING MONEY. Keep the monies in the bank unless its of justifiable use, I don’t care if that employee is overwhelmed, get one of the exempt employees who gets paid to show up to work, or those who get paid and don’t show up to work.

It’s a real shame what we have allow this BUSINESS MAN to bring us to. Now you know why Lockhart Company didn’t offer deJongh his job back when he lost his first election bid against Turnbull, because John deJongh is DUMB LIKE A DOOR NAIL. When he worked at Lockhart Company the company did not prosper. He did them a favor and ran for Governor, because since he left the Company, it has prospered.

People, we must stand up for what we beleive in and hold strain Victory will be Ours.
People, lets begin the chant, “HELL NO – – JOHN GOT TO GO”

Senators, vote No for the Loan.

    We Can Do Better!

    @ Mission84

Nice commentary but I strongly suggest that you be much more respectful of Senator O’Rielly and use better choice of words if you want to identify her future potential for CHANGE.

Yes, Senators Donastorg and Rivera O’Rielly has been leading the charge in the legislature at standing up to John de Jongh, Jr.

It is because of these two Heroes that Virgin Islanders can say “Hell No — John Got To Go”.

Senators Donastorg and Rivera O’Rielly are the People’s Choice for CHANGE!

Is Sen. O’Reilly holding some kind of meeting or rally tomorrow? Does anyone know where and when?

  8. Soldier Crab on April 16, 2010 at 6:27 pm

    @ ‘Mission84′:

Two things.First,we know the difference between male and female so you don’t have to be that graphic in making the point.

Secondly, you have to understand the protectionist attitude of Debra Gotlieb and her ilk (i.e all those who are making $85,000 and above)when they keep telling you that cutting back on their salaries and the government’s associated FICA and Retirement benefit expenses on them, will generate ‘insignificant’ savings.
They don’t want their salaries reduced.Heck,I’d say the same thing.

But why take her word for it? The government’s budget is a public document.Look up the names of all those making $85,000 and more(including the 15 senators),chop off $20,000 off of each
(and, where applicable, their relative percentages for fica and retirement)and total those figures. My bet is the savings will run into the hundreds of thousnads.

Small change perhaps, but as you so correctly said ‘IT’S A START’

See what you can come up with and give us a holler.

    each,

  9. Soldier Crab on April 16, 2010 at 8:03 pm

P.S…..make that $65,000 and more.Things appear to be worse than I thought.

    Donastorg/O’Reilly 2010!!!

What a wonderful way to get rid of two of the biggest whiners and “belly-achers” in the history of the Virgin Islands Legislature. Run Donastorg/O’Reilly, run!

    deJongh/Francis 2010!!! Together for Tomorrow!!!

    Bye bye Dumbastorg and O’Wildly!!!

  13. Anonymous on April 17, 2010 at 9:56 am

For those of you that didn’t believe the de Jongh / Francis spin doctors were active on this web site read above Anon 9:34 blog.

We know that the de Jongh / Francis campaign is trying to take down Donastorg even before he makes his announcement to run for office. The de Jongh / Francis campaign is so desperate that they recruited some within their camp to set Donastorg up.

Unfortunately for Kenneth Mapp the information de Jongh / Francis is releasing on him are taken directly from public records that has already been established.

Senators Donastorg / Rivera O’Reilly are realistically the two HEREOS that can deliver a knock out punch to that miserable dog de Jongh and overwhelmingly defeat him in September. The de Jongh / Francis campaign clearly acknowledges this fact by their persistent nasty attacks on Donastorg.

Kenneth Mapp will have to put aside his self interest and campaign for the Donastorg / Rivera O’Reilly team if they join forces.

If Kenneth Mapp could have step aside for Turnbull he certainly can step aside for the HEREOS of the legislature and allow them to get on with the peoples business.

Again, read Anon 9:34 blog and you will see that de Wolf is still lurking around on CIF.

Kenneth Mapp campaign must join forces behind Donastorg / Rivera O’Reilly and throw their full support hehind of these Virgin Islands HEREOS to help them cross the finish line in November 2010.

The Virgin Islands are now at the point of no return. Kenneth Mapp and his campaign will be judged and recorded in history as to what efforts it put forward in assisting the HEREOS.

John P. de Jongh, Jr. must GO and make way for the People’s Choice for CHANGE!

    Yes!

  15. Phantom on April 17, 2010 at 10:41 am

Is this site just for Crucians? And, is it just for Donastorg and Mapp supporters?

Why is it that Donastorg and Mapp supporters are welcomed here to cast every conceivable aspersion against deJongh/Francis, but when anything is said against Donastorg it must be that “de Wolf is still lurking around on CIF”. Is this some type of exclusive club for Donastorg and Mapp supporters?

If it is, then you can have your mutual admiration society and continue to jerk each other off until election day! Then again, both Donastorg and Mapp would probably enjoy nothing better. (Ha!Ha!)

    @ Phantom

Actually, the answer to all of your questions is “no.”In fact, our stats show significant (in fact sometimes greater)readership on St. Thomas on any given day than St. Croix so no, we’re not targeted at one island, one candidate or, for that matter, one country or continent – but we have participation from many.

    so come one come all.

  17. Anonymous on April 17, 2010 at 1:35 pm

    Phantom,

I hope John gaae you enough money to be able to leace the island when he looses the election or the mob comes after all of you. Do us a favor and be gone like a ghost. You idiot.

  18. Mission84 on April 17, 2010 at 1:53 pm

For those who felt that I disrespected Nelly O’Reilly, I did not. Senator O’Reilly has earned the respect of the citizens of these Virgin Islands. I have great admiration for her, she takes a stand and don’t back down. She is a much stronger legislator than her other 14 colleages.

For all you Donastorg supporters, I am really sorry to hear (and I think better of O’Reilly) that O’Reilly will run for public office with Donastorg while his legal matter is pending. I really think she should wait until Donastorg is cleared on his legal matter before encouraging anyone to get involved in a campaign with him.

  19. T on April 17, 2010 at 2:08 pm

So what’s up with Senator O’Reilly? How did that meeting go? Did she said she was running for reelection?

  20. Anonymous on April 17, 2010 at 3:06 pm

@ Mission 84 or should we say RC.

Some nerve you got speaking from both sides of your mouth!
