Donastorg To Plead In Domestic Violence Case March 11
Judge upholds probable cause despite accuser's request to recant, reports of $150,000 bribe
New details in the domestic violence allegations against Sen. Adlah “Foncie” Donastorg emerged in a hearing Friday before St. Thomas Magistrate Judge Alan Smith, who advised the Senator of his rights and set an arraignment date of March 11 for the Senator to enter a plea on the formal charges.
Donastorg, who turned himself into authorities on St. Croix on Thursday, is charged with aggravated assault, third degree assault, brandishing a deadly weapon and using a dangerous weapon in the commission of a crime of violence. The charges stem from an alleged incident on January 28 between Donastorg and an unidentified 19-year-old woman.
Defense attorney Gordon Rhea said the accuser, who Rhea and the police agree has attempted to recant her story about the incident, was bribed with $150,000 to make the allegations and that the Senator’s defense rests on that claim. On Thursday, St. Croix Attorney Lee Rohn, who accompanied Donastorg when he turned himself in to authorities, stated that tapes and text messages exist in which the accuser admits the charges are false and reveals she was offered money to make them.
The incident has generated intense public debate on whether there is any merit to the allegations or whether this incident is politically motivated by those who were opposed to Donastorg’s burgeoning campaign for governor in the upcoming election.
Details were read from the Virgin Island Police Department’s Probable Cause sheet by VIPD Sergeant Deborah Jack, Lead Investigator. It summarized the alleged incident on January 28 as reported by the accuser, who stated that she had been in a relationship with the senator since last summer; that she arrived at his home on Jan. 28 intending to stay with him and was ordered at gunpoint to leave Donastorg’s property; and that he threatened to shoot her and a woman who accompanied her if they did not leave.
The woman further stated, according to the report, that Donastorg later offered to drive her to her mother’s home; that during the ride she questioned him about his treatment of her knowing that he had recently aborted his child; and that upon arrival at her destination, when she refused to get out of his car, he began “strangling” her and forcibly removed her from the vehicle, resulting in injuries.
Jack said that the accuser notified police that she wanted to withdraw the complaint and change her original statements, but that the accuser never followed through by formally withdrawing the complaint through the Attorney General’s office.
After he was notified of the complaint on March 1, Jack said, Donastorg contacted police twice, once stating that the woman had refused to leave his St. Croix residence and later calling to report that the woman had revealed to him the Facebook identity of the individual who offered the $150,000 bribe. Facebook is an internet social networking site.
Rhea asked the court to reconsider the probable cause finding because the accuser has changed her story several times since filing the complaint. Smith said questions of the accuser’s credibility will be addressed during court proceedings, and let the finding stand.
If convicted on all charges, Donastorg faces a minimum sentence of eight years.

Why do you bring Mapp name into this battle, he doesn’t have any personal issue with Foncie. See we going back to four years ago. Foncie stop alienating your Ali. We won’t be here battling dewolf if you had only not been “going along to get along” with the Dem’s and St. Thomians who you would have needed for the 2008 re-election to the Senate. Your own lice now come back to bite you in the a**.
I just heard Jimmy’O on his show said that De Jongh’s favorite “book” is Machiavelli.
Oh, so he wants to be a Machiavellian Practitioner, “The Prince!”
So, that is what De Jongh has become: “The Prince!”
All True Princes are warned “never” to turn FEAR into HATE!
All TRUE “PRINCES” KNOW TO MANAGE THIS PRINCIPLE OF POWER.
Who brought Mapp into it? Did you see the Daily News? This young lady calls the name of two Administration employees pushed her to file charges.
Where is the outrage? This public servant could have spent years in jail because of these lies.
If the Administration wasn’t behind this why would they push to prosecute on such a shaky story with no evidence other than a statement that had been recanted?
THis kind of thing is NOT ok.
I could believe dat Mapp hand in dis. With CIF telling us how badly ppl in administration are upset with this gov and lt. gov i can see mapp’s influence upon dem. Since Mapp knew Donastorg werent goin to team up wit he, he just decide to cut him off straight in da beginning since dey was goin to be enemies anyway. he jus deal wit donastorg early on… it make too much sense.
Only to you does it make sense Donostorg Innocent. Only to you!
If this whole melee turns out to be a set up and frame job, the first place to look is to those who would have benefitted the most.
Short list.
Then the melee will have just begun.
@ Donastorg Innocent
Mapp don’t get into St. Thomas wars, he has his own stuff to deal with. He has no beef with Foncie. If you want to muddy the waters some more for Foncie I suggest you keep it between dewolf and him.
I can’t see why Mapp would want to get into such a stupid and low down act. He has been to busy organizing and preparing himself for the battle. His time is spent meeting with people who have the expertise in economics and finance looking and studying how we can unravel the catastrophe that’s about to happen with our economy.
I am sure dewolf and Foncie don’t need another body in the fight, they are doing a good job on each other.
Just to let you know Mapp have other choices for Lt. He has them knocking on his door. Foncie maybe the one looking for a running mate. Nice try “POSITIVE” trying to create something that’s not there, sorry you ain’t getting any action. Your name has not been mention once as a viable candidate.
None of the proclaimed candidates are without their baggage, and each of us who knows the candidates also knows something about them and their wrong ways.
We just got to pick the least evil one of the bunch.
Can’t someone with no baggage step forward? Give us a break!
I think Foncie and Mapp would make a great team. I dont see that Mapp have any reason to do this to Foncie, but the Governor HAS EVERY REASON. Everyone knows he is vindictive. He blames Foncie for blowing the whistle on Mafoliegate and knows that Foncie could trounce him in the primary. Also, an unbiased AG would have never looked to prosecute a case like this.
I am so sorry for all those people who have been thrown under the bus and dragged threw the mud by this Administration.
Donastorg didn’t really have any baggage until last week. Nobody’s perfect, but it is shameful that someone decided to take this opportunity to ruin lives.
No baggage also often means no experience and no record. I will take Donastorg. We know what he is about and where he stands.
We didn’t really know with our last two Governors and look what we got.
The truth will set Foncie free… just wait and see… GOD IS GOOD and he will never let the innocent(Foncie) suffer and the evil one (Dejongh) prosper
Those dragged threw the mud allowed themselves to be dragged. I am sure your mother told you “lie down with dogs, get up with fleas”.
All of those adult people had choices. They could have gone home. They could have said NO.
I feel sorry for the deJongh children. They do not have a choice for parents. Now they must carry the SHAME their parents have placed on their name. I feel sorry for Mrs. Galiber she has to live through the SHAME.
All others had a CHOICE.

My client wishes to correct your interpretation of a portion of her statement in the story run by you in your 9 March 2010 issue in which you state that Ms. K.E. stated that Leslie Comissiong “proffered $150,000 to her”.
Specifically, Laverne Campbell, who is a man and not a woman, stated that there were people who would pay her at least $150,000. Although present, Ms. Comissiong said nothing. My client did not take this as an offer but as a statement that there were persons who would be willing to pay such sums to bring down Senator Donastorg.
At no time did anyone actually offer her money.
