New laws aren’t the only solution to the problems of violent crime facing the territory and Sen. Adlah “Foncie” Donastorg plans to introduce legislation that will help the Virgin Islands “update its approach” to this growing issue.

The legislation is part of a youth outreach program that will start with a reception at 8 p.m. Friday night at Four Winds Plaza. The public is invited to attend.

The bill will focus on giving law enforcement officers new tools, establish violence prevention measures and contain provisions for helping former gang members reenter society.

“There are some very specific acts we can make illegal, such as initiating anyone into a gang, that will give us broader powers to combat the drug and weapon running organizations that are responsible for much of the violence in our community,” the Senator said.

The initiative brought in some star power with the participation this week of actor Ving Rhames who joined Donastorg and others to visit public housing communities on St. Thomas and St. Croix. The group also included the infamous California gang member turned activist and music producer known as “Big U”.

Friday’s reception is to thank those who are visiting the territory to work with our youth, and also in attendance will be former NFL superstar and philanthropist Roland Williams, who played for the St. Louis Rams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Oakland Raiders. Williams is coordinating a major charitable event this summer here in the Virgin Islands.

The reception will begin at 8 p.m. Friday at Four Winds Plaza adjacent to Cash & Carry. The public is invited. Donastorg said he will also be celebrating his recent college graduation.

“I want our children to know that education should be a lifelong process,” he said.

    PNG,

It’s called desperation. Please don’t let it get to you. It is truly disgusting, isn’t it?

I think that we are all, understandably, frustrated at the slow pace of this process. I, for one, am all too anxious to see our Emperor deposed. However, the only thing that is really picking up momentum – as evidenced by some of these posts – is the nasty politicking.

Crucians in Focus has done a terrific job of keeping the public informed and creating a forum where we can dialog about all the corruption. We should stay focused on the issues at hand, and stop all this nasty bickering.

hmmmmmm……..Considering that quite a few of the St Thomas and St John voters have turned away from John. Who do you think they are backing? Could it be Donastorg?

Mapp held no weight in STT/STJ. The majority of his votes came from St Croix. However, in 2006 John kicked butt in STT/STJ. For arguement sake, let’s slide all of those once “for/now against John” STT/STJ voters over to Donastorg. Tell me Mapp and camp, who will win the election? Eureka! By golly, it’s Donastorg!

Kenneth you are in serious need of a strategist. I suggest you go and hire one soon. The ones you currently have are not cutting it.

If you were smart enough to see the forest for the trees, you would see in the run-off, that most of your camp actually went to Mapp about 3,000 plus. So they did see him as viable candidate in 2006. dewolf got just over 700 of your camp. I think those 3,000 now realizes that you should have stayed around and supported them to rid dewolf. I wouldn’t go to far with this you might be the one that’s under the microscope since the last race.

    Cell Phone Bill Payment

  15. Anonymous on February 23, 2010 at 10:23 am

Mapp, I do not see the point you are trying to make. According to the information the cell phone bill was paid for by Donastorg.

You are grasping at straws and you’re no better than John. You will no longer get my vote. You and your camp workers are sickening.

I will be with Bert, Nelson or Donastorg.

  16. Strickly Native on February 23, 2010 at 4:31 pm

That’s your prerogative to vote for who you want , but I am not Mapp unless you are Foncie. And by the way how come it took you three months to write that check. I find it strange if it was your personal phone why would you need to transfer it over to the legislature. Look fools are talking, but damn sure no fools listening. I work for the government I have my personal cell phone and then they issue me one for emergency purposes because I respond 24 hour. Nobody intelligent would transfer their personal number under the government system.

  17. Anonymous on February 23, 2010 at 4:48 pm

What? What the hell are you talking about? Look, clear up the language come with a valid point, then, maybe, we can poli-trick. OK?

Do you what I always tell MY students? Ignore unwanted behavior. Goodbye, campaign propagandist.

Foncie trying to get the legislature to pay his phone bill. In the letter to Sen. Hill he claimed that when came to presidency seat. He attempted to transfer his personal cell phone to the legislature. Then he claimed he didn’t know how the legislature business office got his cell phone bill. Dah! you gave it to them.

Yo need to read his leader to Senator Hill and tell me that thinks just like dewolf. Both of them think we schupid.

As I have said before, if you continue with your Mapp vs. Donastorg diatribe, deJongh will edge his way to victory and another four years in office.

And when his administration wins and makes your lives miserable for opposing him, you will only have your yourselves to blame.
