Sublime Arrogance: Governor Responds To IG Report With Accusations, Defiance
Governor Calls Probe "Woefully Inadequate; Will Not Pay Back Without Court Order
Well, now we have read it.
Every painful, deluded, convoluted word of it. And here is our conclusion:
You must be joking.
In seven pages of rambling denial and blistering criticism, Governor John P. deJongh, Jr, completed another leg of what is apparently a political kamikaze mission by dismissing the findings of the US Inspector General’s report on Mafoliegate and declaring the IG incompetent in the process.
And the commitment he made in November to pay back a portion of the $490,000 spent on his home is now off the table – he has concluded “no funds need be returned unless and until there is a final judicial finding establishing that the funds were not properly reprogrammed.”
In a flagrant slap at the role of the Legislature, he said “surely whether or not all of the Senators voting (on Act 6917) understood what a particular reprogramming was specifically for… cannot be relevant to the questions of whether the subsequent use of the funds … was proper or improper.”
Calling the investigation “woefully inadequate” he all but accused the IG and the local IG office of collusion with Senator Adlah “Foncie” Donastorg by stating “the local commentary has focused on the fact that the Senator who filed the complaint with your office is both the most strident of partisans as well as linked to the head of your local office.”

Thereafter, the response is an exercise in finger pointing. The person who should have been questioned about this is “the Senator who actually sponsored the reprogramming,” referring to Sen. Carlton “Ital” Dowe, the only senator who was copied on correspondence specifically addressing the improvements at the governor’s home. He went on to dismiss as “hardly relevant” public testimony from Senators who have stated they did not intend that the funds be used to renovate the Governor’s property.
Governor – we’ll see you in court.

Did a previous administration use public funds and employees for home improvements such as constructing or paving a driveway, replacing windows, replacing the roof and other “so called security” measures at a private residence? The work was done after Hurricane Marilyn.
Do you plan to file a case against that one also?
Sublime arrogance, indeed! I don’t care what people say. People like Schneider and Turnbull had their ways, but they were not so terrible. “Together for Tommorow” should be changed to “Divided for Tommorow.” We really need to stop this by SEPTEMBER!
I wasn’t referring to either Schneider or Turnbull. Turnbull was not in office at the time.
Think about it T. You’re a smart guy.
John’s “real advisers” do not reside in the Territory. I told you all that Government Hill will not be surrendered without a fight. There is too much at stake for them and “them” does not refer to John. deJongh does not run this show. He answers to those way more affluent, decisive, diabolical and cunning than John deJongh could ever dream of being.
Let the games begin.
Again, the governor’s response was full of venom and utter rarshishness. All meant to hide,bob-an’-weave and deflect. But,just
like is done when folks are catching crab,he’s gonna be flushed out from the hole his advisors have dug for him to hide.Don’t worry….him goin’crawl out wid ‘im gundy dem up inna de air.
Been there done that and more. Is that why Mapp wants to go back?
Correction: “real advisors”
I am embarrassed by the Governor de Jongh’s improper use of capital letters inappropriately. I started counting, and then lost count. He repeatedly capitalizes the following words, for example:
Report, Administration, Senator, Office, Governor, etc. Can someone please tell the most brilliant governor we’ve ever had in office the Warriner’s rules of English grammar? Only proper nouns are capitalized. Therefore, the word office is not capitalized unless you say “Office of the Inspector General”, for example, which is a proper noun. The word governor or senator cannot be capitalized unless you state the person’s name with the noun. So one could say, “The governor will be going to jail.” The word governor, in that case must take a lower case letter. However, if one said, “It is clear that Governor de Jongh sought a legal opinion because he was trying to cover his behind, and therefore, this very act showed intent to steal”, then the word governor would use an upper case g. Maybe he will have time to refresh his grammar in “Red Onion” Penitentiary if a federal body with prosecutorial powers doesn’t buy his response.
Didn’t any of his $85,000 per year staff and consultants not proofread his response? Shame on all of them.
I would also like to lend the governor a word. (Lower case g unless you are God….) That word is terse. I would also like him to look up the word garrulous, which is what describes the flow of his missive.
1. Governors don’t get legal opinions prior to paving public roads or repairing schools because they know that using public funds to improve public property is legal. So the legal opinion was sought because HE knew that what he was about to do was illegal. He is his own accuser.
2. The governor knew that what he did was illegal because his first response was not only to deny the activity, but to say that the accusers were committing slander.
3. Prepositional phrases… blah blah, even if the legislature had reprogrammed money for construction, nowhere is there or can there be an explicit permission for the use of private funds on private property.
4. This reply reminds me of Clinton’s “it depends on what the definition of is…is”. Does the term spirit of the law mean anything to anyone?
5. Was he sniffing and rubbing his nose as usual when he wrote this drivel?
Puh-lease!
@ Pul-leese
#1 – excellent point! hadn’t thought of that one.
That’s right. Everyone, including Jimmy this morning, seems to forget that the Legislature’s legal counsel clearly pointed out that for public funds to be used on private property, there is additional language and/or processes required to forumlate the required legislation. Counsel stated that if the intent was relayed, this would have been done. Why don’t we swear Dowe in under oath and have him answer questions regarding what he told counsel? In any event, the bottom line is if Governor deJongh wanted to be transparent he would have requested language specifying an amount and a specific appropriation for his residence in Maffolie.
Hmmm…I caught the news this morning…CNN!…and there was DeJongh, on CNN, in regards to his lack of accountability for ARRA funds and projects. All heads of States were required to submit accurate information as to where the funds were being spent, but our Gov didn’t think it neccessary, so he wound up on CNN saying why.
This guy is so arrogant and corrupt, the tip of the iceberg is just now coming. Of course he is going to insinuate that everyone else is just an idiot, including the IG, so that he can buy more time to get more of his A** covered.
Pay attention to all the “new” candidates for Senate…There are many who will be favored by DeJongh, and submissive Senators, to be put in place for His Kingdom. A few names to watch: Brad Nugent, Sanes, Dowe, Julie Fricks, Barshinger.
DeJongh hasn’t a clue as to what is really about to hit him. There are way too many people tired and angry with the Good Old Boys Club mentality, and he fortunately will be the demise of the greedy club.
The most important thing the deJongh Administration has taught me, thus far, is: ‘Say No to Drugs or It Will Destroy You’.
If you read the bottom of page 2 of the governor’s response, you will see where they refer to “the first three prepositional phrases…”
But if you were to examine closely the so-called three prepositional phrases in quotations, what you would actually find are five, not three phrases: the first,” a prepositional phrase; the second,”a participle phrase; the third,”an infinitive phrase”; the forth, “a prepositional phrase; and the fifth, “a prepositional phrase.”
Now, do anyone of you Dejongh psychopaths want to challenge me on this one?
A LESSON TO ALL: Be careful what you ask for, you might just get it!
Isn’t it ironic that the one time Senator Donastorg followed the advice of Governor deJongh that deJongh isn’t happy?
On June 21, 2009, the Office of the Governor issued a press release stating in relevant part:
“If Senator Donastorg believes that he has evidence that such funds were used then he should do what any citizen of the Territory should do when he, or she, believes that the law is being broken, and that is to contact the proper legal authorities, such as the Attorney General, or the Inspector General, and present that evidence.”
Be careful what you ask for Governor. You now appear to be asking for this matter to be adjudicated in a court of law. You might just get it!
OK, my comments are being moderated again.
I am off to a book!
all i can say is well well well where is the stupid bush police when you need them. These people must be using some imported stupid bush because they doing some stupid stupid stupid things. why would this man go on CNN, why would he say the things about the IG, why would he say he would pay back the money and then say that a judge will have to make him pay it back. why why why . where is the stupid bush police when you need them.We going to need a stupid bush task force the stupid bush abuse is getting out of hand.
Calling on Holland Redfield and Herb and the Republican party to condemn his actions, or be reported to the RNC. If you don’t, then you validate the idea that de Jongh is really a Republican, or that the VI doesn’t really have a Republican Party.
Calling on Hill to repudiate his actions.
Calling on the senate to move for impeachment as in the case of Blagoyevich. Or at least appoint an independent prosecutor.
Calling on St. Thomas voters to remove Dowe, White, Hill, Sprauve.
Calling on the VI Democratic party to file a censure. Be careful that the next territorial meeting will have more honest people than proxies that you collect. Otherwise, clean slate of all officers (Carol) next election.
Calling on the US Attorney’s office to file charges if they have cohones and can forget about the beers they have shared.
Calling on Mrs. de Jongh to file for divorce for involving their property in political fraud and scandal. She is a lady of class and doesn’t deserve that.
Calling on all off-shore banks to reveal $10 million dollar deposits of politicians circa July 2008.
Calling on President Obama to put this embarrassment to his party in the fridge. And PS. only the Obamas represent Camelot.
Calling on Delegate Christiansen to jump ship.
Calling on VI voters to remember the deficits and wild spending, the lack of accountability, the malicious firings, the violation of “family values”, the holding up of union NOPA’s for political purposes, the throwing of commissioners under the bus, and the general arrogance in the face of obvious and premeditated wrongdoing. Consider this chant:
THROW HIM OUT. THROW HIM OUT.
