Note To Governor: Admit You Were Wrong, Write The Check
Governor should acknowledge wrongdoing in today's response to IG report in Mafoliegate matter

The conclusion was clear and the response should be simple.
Today is the deadline for Gov. John P. deJongh Jr. to respond to the United States Inspector General’s report that found that his use of $490,000 in public funds to renovate his Mafolie property was illegal and recommended the funds, in total, be repaid.
Governor, we know you’re a busy man, so in case you haven’t had a chance to prepare your response, here’s a suggestion.
“Dear Madame Inspector General,
You are right. I was wrong. I’ll write the check. Please ask the US Attorney General to note my remorse.
Respectfully and penitently submitted,
Gov. John P. deJongh, Jr.”
That’s our recommendation.
Now based on what we’ve seen since the report was issued, this is probably just our fantasy. In the interim, the Governor has held a news conference in which he challenged the IG’s findings; participated in inferences that the report was politically motivated; laid his participation in the illegal spending at the feet of the Attorney General Elliot Davis who wrote a flawed opinion concerning the use of public funds; and said that the IG should have interviewed Sen. Carlton Dowe, who sponsored the amendment to Act 6917, the bill from which the funds were used.
And instead of remorse, we’ve seen arrogance and the continued denial that anything is out of place.
So allow us to remind the Governor that this is the Federal government he’s dealing with and anyone who has experience in these matters knows that this is just the first step in a process that will ultimately affect not just him, but all of those who participated in approving and executing the activities related to the Mafolie project. Compliance and consequences will not be optional and all the spin in the world won’t help them.
Governor, this may be your last chance to voluntarily take responsibility for your actions.
If you were smart, you’d take it.

Well…that was a very interesting read, although the first three pages of grammatical breakdown was an over kill.
I found this line to be the most interesting…..
“Given my strong conviction that the funds used were properly reprogrammed and thus authorized, we have concluded that no funds need to be returned unless and until there is a financial judicial finding establishing that the funds were not properly reprogrammed.”
He then went on to say that he already stated that he would pay the government “the then-appraised value” of remaining security improvements, after he leaves office.
I await to see the IG’s response now. This back and forth may last till election, and would only end up hurting deJongh in the long run.

After reading the governor’s response to the IG, I truly know that I could not sincerely give this man my vote. This is much too much madness. Blame Senator Dowe for not wording the amendment properly. He was thrown under a steam roller by dewolf. Yeah this is because Sen. Dowe did not spell everything out in plain English that we have to be subjected to insane, ludicrous, and insulting response by dewolf. The madness never cease to amaze me.
After having read some more of the response to the IG Report, I am now unequivocally convinced that the governor has lost his mind!
I can see that this issue is so hot, that my comments are moderated like never before!
I am now truly convince our Governor is insane. First he insults the intelligence of the Inspector General’s Office. Then he attempts to provide a course in English 101, 102 and what ever else exist. Then he questions the ethics of the office. Then he explains why only Senator Dowe was cc’d on letters not otherwise forwarded to the Senate President for general circulation. Then as a thief he clearly outlines when and how he will reimburse the Government. The level of arrogance is really cutting. Ladies and Gentlement, the question we need to ask is why did the Governor lie from the begining. I guess he thinks we have forgotten the chronology of events. Liar, Liar….yo tail gon be on fire, fire.
This is one of the few times I will agree to have federal interference. This Governor is arrogant and has repeatedly insulted the intelligence or the people and the Inspector General’s office. In his report he speaks of a Legislative Opinion but failed to mention the opinion of the Chief Legal Council of the Legislature. I am compelled to believe this will be the first Governor to be incarcirated. This is definately not inspirational Governor degone….
WOW! This election year is getting good, and we are only in February! By tommorow, we can expect Gov. deJongh’s cronies to come on the blogs and radio waves to try to explain what he meant in this long-winded letter, and would continue to defend the nonsense he is doing to us.
Note to IG: Learn to read the English language and go fly a kite.

Wow!The opposition is getting more personal. Why are these people throwing rocks at other Virgin Islanders? Can you not do better and simply go to the polls without malice in your hearts? Live and let live. The people you attack have bills to pay and are entitled to their opinions. If they choose to support deGreat, it is not your business. If you must spew your venom,why not confront them face-to-face? It is cowardly and juvenile to call them nasty names on this site. Be transparent and bold. Try to do better.
At the end of the day, and time will certainly tell, Who will be Governor and who will not. It is unfortunate that some in our community that have been on both sides of government house can’t accept when it is time to move on. It is also unfortunate that what one believes to be true, and at the end of the day is proven not true, still refuses to accept otherwise. But then again…it takes a real person to admit when they have been wrong, and seek to make ammends, insted of looking for the next story.

Jimmy brought up a good point about the IG this morning. The IG’s (local & federal) wrote a report about the Roy L. Schneider Hospital and board members and executives were sent home and criminally charged. Therefore were the IG’s incompetent in writing the RLS report? The Governor threw out the RLS response and initiated charges against RLS. Who is the pot calling the kettle black?
AMEN! But please rember that VP has to help her sister keep her job at the ST.Croix Hospital, because she dose not know what she is doing, other than helping the first lady and her brothers take over the hospital.
