Senator Nellie O’Reilly  is sponsoring a series of workshops in February that are designed to encourage and assist the women of St. Croix who aspire to seek and serve in public office.

The “Women in Politics” Shadowing Program during the month of February will offer potential public servants a look at the mechanics of the Senate and what they need to know to effectively function in the institution.

“We are offering women an inside look at the varied functions of a senator,” stated O’Reilly. “As a first year senator in the 28th Legislature, there was much for our team to learn during the first few months, and we want to offer aspirants a chance to become familiar with the process.”

The group will learn the process for such functions as drafting new bill requests and amendments; meeting with and assisting constituents; participating in committee hearings; conducting research; interacting with other agencies and organizations; performing administrative functions; and attending government and public events.

Women are encouraged to participate throughout the month of February and can contact Senator O’Reilly’s office at 712-2222 or teamnellie@gmail.com for registration details.

Nellie Rivera-O’Reilly, the only female currently serving and a first-time Senator in the 28th Legislature, is a member of four committees including, Financial Services, Infrastructure & Consumer Affairs; Education, Youth & Culture; Labor & Agriculture; and Economic Development, Energy & technology. For more information contact Team Nellie at 712-2222.

I’m a St. Thomian, and yet I have more respect for Sen. O’Reilly than most the comedians she have to work with. I hope she gets back in the Legislature.

I’ve waited years to see a woman of Senator O’Reilly’s caliber and drive in the Legislature. She definitely has panache. It is apparent in the committee hearings and legislative sessions that she has studied her role as a Legislator. The questions she ask are thoroughly researched and follows a pattern that results in getting to the “nitty gritty” of the issues at hand. This workshop is timely and needed. I’m from St. Thomas and hope that the people of St. Croix keep you in the Senate.

Sen. O’Reilly I think this is a very good thing that you are doing. Looking at you on the Senate floor I see a women who read and do a lots of research before coming on the Senate floor. I hope the women of St. Criox come out to support you. I wish I have the opportunity to attend. GOD BLESS YOU AND HOPE THE POPLE OF ST. CROIX PUT YOU BACK IN THE SENATE.

    Thank you Senator O’Reilly!

The conference you assembled was fabulous. It was informative, it was always very interesting, and it was empowering due to the truthfulness of content and guest comments. I wish I had been able to attend the conference in whole, but in any case, I got so much out of it.

I would pay for any additional conferences you bring, bring them on!

I must also say, that after listening to your guest speakers talk about how disruptive and intrusive a life in politics is, thank you even more for giving-up your time to be a Senator with our interests true to your heart. Keep on trucking, please run again. You are a true person, and we love you!
