Sen. Terrence "Positive" Nelson

Senator Terrence “Positive” Nelson reaffirmed his intention to run for Governor of the Virgin Islands at a news conference on Wednesday.

The three-term St. Croix senator, member of the Independent Citizens Movement (ICM) party,  has been the top vote getter on St. Croix in the last two elections. He did not announce a running mate, but said he has two top candidates, one from St. Thomas and one from St. John.

He said he would announce his running mate as soon as plans were concrete, but assured the community it would be someone who wants good government and has the talent to oversee the workings of the banking and insurance industries.

In addition to his experience as a senator, Nelson outlined his background in teaching, labor relations and community activism and said he will continue to be proactive in promoting accountabilty.

Relative to the ongoing matter of Governor John P. deJongh, Jr.’s use of public funds to renovate his private residence at Estate Mafolie,  Nelson said the matter should be handled by the courts, particularly “since there’s been no remorse,” shown by the Governor. He emphasized that his stand on the matter was not related to his candidacy, but that the Governor’s decision to dispute the US Inspector General’s report that held him responsible for improper use of public funds was troubling.

“It is immoral… it is repulsive to think that this gross action can be denied publicly,” Nelson said.

And unlike the hopeful vision of the future the Governor attempted to paint in Monday’s State of the Territory address, Nelson said he believes the atmosphere in the Virgin Islands is one of fear and uncertainty, and that the problems will only be solved through good leadership.

The posting of photos of Senator Nelson at a post-State of the Territory address reception is nothing more than that. A Photo. What exactly is wrong with that? Only someone who has an issue with both DeJongh & Nelson would try to make more of this than it really is and this has Senator Donastorg all over it.

He’s the best at talking about people because that is what he’s good at. But when the Daily News exposed him for claiming to have a college degree, he cried foul and threatened legal action. This election is going to be good. That’s for sure.

Mapp is the one who should be aware of Senator Nelson. The plot makes sense to me. Join with Dejongh and split the vote in St Croix so that Mapp’s votes will be weakened and Dejongh can squeeze through.

Dejonghh is planning for the general election. I doubt he will even make it through the primary.

I don’t think Donastorg had anything to do with those pictures.

Let it be known, as I’ve said before, “Trust no Politician”. And I am not a Donastorg supporter. Really and truly, I do not see much difference between DeJongh and Donastorg. The both of them seem to have narcissistic qualities and would do anything to be or stay governor. The only difference may be that one has street smarts and the other has book smarts. And as for Mapp, he did push through a lot of projects while he was PFA director, but now I’m starting to wonder if his tactics were ethical or legal.

Virgin Islanders place way too much trust in politicians and thus the accountability falls. Wise up people! I will leave you with this quote.

“You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.”

It’s unfair to say that Donastorg is like Dejongh.

Dejongh is a horrible man that never showed one interest in the VI until he wanted to become Governor. He cares about only himself.

Donastorg has always fought for the VI people. He took on Prosser, Governor Schnieder and when so many others were afraid or didn’t care. Yeah he has nice features but is that any reason to call him a narcissists?

Donastorg is 100% better than John Dejongh and the people in St Thomas and St Croix are seeing it.

Donastorg “took on Prosser”. What does that mean?

  6. Anonymous on February 8, 2010 at 7:28 pm

    @SMH,

That was a low blow. It is very mean and disrespectful to compare any of the candidates to John Dejongh.

    Dejongh is an evil man.

No matter what any of the other candidates may have done they still do not deserve for anyone to say they are like Dejongh. That is a very mean and wrong thing to say.

You should issue an apology for that comment.

  7. We need a Mapp on February 8, 2010 at 8:30 pm

    @SMH,

When Mapp was PFA Director he did everything above and transparent check his record. If this was not so wouldn’t dejongh used it against him in the last election. Remember Mapp garnered 61% of the votes cast in St. Croix last election this smells like some kind of “Tea Party” tactics going on here I would not push this past dewolf camp.

  8. No more of this. on February 8, 2010 at 8:57 pm

    Donastorg 2010

You posted,” Mapp is perhaps equal to deJongh in terms of intelligence and knowledge;”

Mr/Mrs, Mapp is far superior to de Jongh in terms of intelligence and knowledge.

    Get a grip!

  10. Anonymous on February 8, 2010 at 9:18 pm

Yes, Foncie. You’ll need more than this site to repeat the same message. Many voters do not have the interest or time to visit this site. It is going to take lots of bucks to oppose deJongh. When you bash so many people, who will you go to for cash? Start practicing how to debate the issues. Mapp will make you look like a mental midget. There is no hope in you being able to win a match with deJongh, either. You are too chicken to announce that you are going to be in the race. Why? Can’t find a running mate who is not smarter than you? Cora was a mistake because she surpass your intellectual level. Will you ever accept the fact that you are not brilliant enough to be a governor?

  11. Anonymous on February 8, 2010 at 9:28 pm

Don’t give Dejongh credit where credit is not due.

I am still trying to figure out why people still think Dejongh is intelligent? The man has a bachelor’s degree from a college (not an University) which no longer exists.

His failure as Governor proves how stupid he is. Dejongh’s degree is a wasted piece of printed paper.

Both Mapp’s and Donastorg’s intelligence is far greater than Dejongh’s. Remember the 2006 debates, Donastorg and Mapp wiped his butt in every one of them.

The only reason Dejongh was elected Governor is because he shoved his “dirty money” in front of the people’s face and they bought into it hook line and sinker.

    @Anonymous 8:47,

Who cares whether or not we have a First Lady! The current First Lady is a sneaky, unethical, immoral, no integrity having theif just like her husband.

Our Government will be a better place when they are gone.

  13. SMH on February 8, 2010 at 9:44 pm

    @We need a Mapp

I don’t know where you got 61% from, because I don’t recall him getting that much of the STX vote and the results do not add up to 61%. If Mapp had actually gotten anywhere near 61% he may actually be our governor right now. I recall being disappointed with Mapp’s St. Croix performance. Don’t worry I’ll do the math for you.

    Here’s the 2006 STX results:
    - General Election
    1. DeJongh – 43%
    2. Mapp – 38%
    3. Donastorg – 19%

    Runoff
    1. DeJongh – 45%
    2. Mapp – 54%

That was a very poor performance by Mapp in St. Croix and he’s a Crucian. Mapp needs to do a lot better in St. Croix if he wants to be governor. He cannot allow DeJongh to get close to 40% again in St. Croix.

Also, whether or not Mapp is married, should not be seen as a campaign issue. The man’s marital status has nothing to with him governing the territory.

  15. EyesWideOpen2010! on February 8, 2010 at 10:10 pm

    I am a pragmatist.

The team to crush De Jongh is Mapp/Donastorg!

Just look at the names side by side. The team sounds like a winner!

This is the team De Jongh hopes will never materialize.

I know it; you know it; and De Jongh knows it!

  16. Anonymous on February 9, 2010 at 7:55 am

I think of the gov more as a puppet than an evil man. I see none of the other potential candidates as puppets of anyone. You don’t have to be ‘brilliant’ to be governor, but you do need honesty and guts.

  17. Real Change on February 9, 2010 at 8:07 am

John deWolf is no puppet. He is a micro manager of evil and corruption. He knows and condones all of it.

you have validated what I have been saying on this site:

All anyone has to do is count the numbers of votes in the 2006 elections.

Clearly, a split-camp scenario of Mapp and Donastorg in 2010 will reassure the re-election of De Jongh. Remember 2006?

However, a united-camp of Mapp and Donastorg will ensure certain victory in 2010.

Advisors in Mapp and Donastrog Camps are you listening?

OK, I have a suggestion. If Former Judge Verne Hodge is serious about running for governor like the rumors suggests, he needs to put his name out there right now. As for Senator Donastorg, he could make two choices: he can opt to stay in the Senate and endorce Hodge, or he could run as Hodge’s runnning mate. We need as least one strong Democrat to run in the primary in order to ensure John deJongh does not get back in as governor.

    Ha! ha! ha!
Sounds like a dream team. Actually, I think it is a brilliant duo:Mapp/Donastorg.It could work, but it is not going to happen. So, keep fantasizing about Mapp being Governor.

The most brilliant duo is :deJongh/Francis. It has worked and continues to be successful. Family men with charming wives. Imagine the wholesome images.

Mapp could not have pulled off a deal like Diageo. The Governor will be remembered for one of the greatest rum deal ever. Puerto Rico is now crying a river of tears for failing to successfully negotiate with Diageo. Thank God, Mapp was not the Governor when Diageo was looking various locations. Mapp argues that we are better without Diageo. Tell that to those who are currently employed by Diageo.

The Governor has a college degree. What difference does it make whether the institution is a college, university or no longer in existence? The Governor is a far more eloquent speaker than Mapp. Mapp does not Speak standard English and his diction is poor. It is an embarrassment to send poor communicators to Washington to represent us. deJongh has a more statesman appearance and can better represent us internationally.deJongh is a governor that all of us could be proud of.

Mapp has demonstrated that he does not respect laws. He was removed from the Senate because he violated election laws. This was also unethical. deJongh has not violated any law. He sent the constitution draft in accordance to a judge’s ruling. There was a valid reason for him to decline sending it before the ruling. The Senate could have extended the deadline to give the delegates a chance to clean-up the document.Congress is not going to clean it up. DeJongh tried to allow all parties to ensure that it would return with the approval of Congress. He tried! Now, it is clear that we will net get a constitution.Do not blame him!
