What Do You Want To Hear From Governor deJongh Tonight?

January 25, 2010
     Gov. John P. deJongh, Jr.

Gov. John P. deJongh, Jr.

It may well be the most anticipated State of The Territory Address in Virgin Islands history.

When Governor John P. deJongh, Jr., takes the podium Monday night, under the shadow of the Inspector General’s report on “Mafoliegate,” the eyes and ears of the Territory and beyond will be focused on him and every word will be heard and analyzed for days to come.

We’d like to know what you want to know from the Governor tonight. What topics should he cover? What issues should he address, and what questions would you ask about how we as Virgin Islanders move forward from here?

The floor is yours.

    I want to hear that he was dishonest and he wouldn’t be seeking re-election in 2010.

    I’m right there with you Stella – and I want to know when he’s going to pay that half a million back.

    I want to hear him apologys to the people of the virgin islands and to those who got cought up in this mess.An apology to Donastorg and Rican would be manly as well.

    I want to know if he is going to come clean and admit his wrong doings and, it he will adhere to the recoomendation of the audit report. I also want him to address his wifes involvement in the $140,000 dollars lotery slush fund that she recieved, and the repayment of those monies.
    And my question I suppose would be….Where are the genuine leaders that dont fall into self serving politics ? We need you more than ever at this unfortunate stage in Virgin Islands history

    I want the Governor to face people of this territory and admit that he has done wrong and will adhere to the IG request that he make restitution to the people of the Virgin Islands. I want to address the high rate of crime and what plans he has to combat it. I want to hear what really revenue generating measures he’s undertaking to help grow our floundering economy. I want him to give us plans on how is going to make the Dept. Of Ed whole. I want to address health care and the terrible conditions of the hospitals. I want him to admit that the procurement process of the government has been comprise by him and his cronies and this practice misusing government funds will stop. I want him to have a plan to fix the GERS pronto.

    It would be nice to hear some shame in his voice, it might indicate he understands what he has done to the people.

    As far as anything else like education, crime, etc, there really is nothing he can say anymore. He’s been saying things for 4 years now, and what do we really see different? Nothing.

    I am tired of hollow words and promises, and if I were to bother listening tonight, that’s all I would hear. More of the same.

    I would like to hear, that for every dollar the Governor and Hugo Hodge spend fighting the ratepayers over the Alpine contract they will put one cent aside for the purpose of conducting an island wide opinion poll on the subject. In the end, it is the ratepayers that pay for everything, incl. their salery.

  10. kooldaddy on January 25, 2010 at 6:53 am

    I would like for steffen and roger to admit that the governor was did wrong.

  11. Real Change on January 25, 2010 at 6:56 am

    I would like him to take the opportunity to RESIGN, He is a corrupt pubic official and should be treated accordingly.

    Stop insulting us King john and announce the end of your “reign” of terror. You are a Greedy self-centered, arrogant BOY with no empathy for the people.

  12. EyesWideOpen2010! on January 25, 2010 at 7:52 am

    The governor should say;

    “I have done wrong;
    I have violated the public’s trust;
    I have improperly re-directed the people’s money to my residence;
    I have lost the public’s confidence; and
    I have decided to resign at the end of the month.”

    “We have already begun the necessary transition for lieutenant Gregory Francis to TAKE THE HELM!”

    I would want to hear the governor talk about the status of the litigation case concerning the property taxes. It has been four years, and we have not hear if that case is close too concluding. I also want to address the situation concerning the use of government money to renovate his house, and how he would respone to the IG’s audit report.

  16. EyesWideOpen2010! on January 25, 2010 at 8:01 am

    Raffie should wear a T-shirt with the slogan, “Jackass for deJongh.”

  17. June on January 25, 2010 at 8:06 am

    There is nothing that the governor can say that will make me feel
    any better toward him. He should be ashamed to know that he diverted the funds for his personal use.

    His message tonight should simple be I RESIGN and take those senators who voted for him to use the money with him.

    I wonder how some of the comments that were made earlier in reference to the governor had the right to use the money FEEL NOW THAT HE WAS TOLD HE DIDN’T HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO SO.They should be shot with SHAME!!!!!!!

    On another matter can someone please explain the situation with
    the lottery deal with his wife. Lord! I hope it isn’t what I have been hearing because she is such a nice lady .

    I’m still trying to find out where is big suit serville.

    Did you the “Old Timer” on Jimmy’s Show?

    He said, “We have heard enough of the IG Report”

    Oh Really?

    He then ended his discussion using an example from “Alice in Wonderland.”

    Forgive him not, for he knows exactly what he does!

  20. Disgust Taxpayer on January 25, 2010 at 8:50 am

    The Governor is nothing but a wolf in sheep clothing, but I am no longer fooled. I must thank God for the Senators of the Virgin Islands, the ones who are not afraid to bring things to the light of the public. The Governor already said he will re-pay, therefore he admitted his wrong doings. The only thing he need to say to the people of the Virgin Islands is “I have stole from you and I am not running for re-election, because there is someone else that is more capable and suitable for the Virgin Islands.” He also needs to speak about his wife and her corruption with the VI Lottery. HE NEEDS TO STEP DOWN. Senator O’Reilly already ask how can he be impeached, now it need to be put into effect.
