The Issue Is Trust
Tonight when Sen. Neville James holds the hearing in the “Mafoliegate” investigation, the eyes of the Territories will be upon him and his committee.
It’s the second meeting of the Committee on Financial Services, Infrastructure and Community Affairs to discuss the use of public funds to renovate the private home of Governor John P. deJongh, Jr. So far, the tally is $490,000.
Since the first hearing last October, there has been an “apology” from the Governor; the confirmation and “private” swearing-in of an individual who should have been a key testifier in this matter but who is now unable to testify as he is a judge; and the emergence of a letter that, by all reports, requested the reprogramming of some $270,000 in funds for the renovation project that was known to only one member of the Legislature – and not passed on to those who eventually voted for it.
We make no predictions on tonight’s outcome. We do remind the Committee that this is the most watched issue in recent memory, and their action, or inaction, based on not just tonight’s testimony, but the events that began with the first denial last June, will send a clear message to the community on where they stand on perhaps the most significant issue between elected officials and their voters.
That issue is trust.
We will all be watching.

Reply to the “verdict” of the Federal Report.
How about these words: Guilty, Restitution, et al.
Verdel is at the bank, applying for a loan so she can pay for the gov what he owes
Which bank?
Bank of VI Lottery. She should have the money Monday morning, that bank gives money usually the next day so long as you put in writing you want some money…
I heard it was the bank of GERS. You know they give out laons without the Board’s or the CFO’s knowledge. They say her check done cut!!! They’ll vote to approve it next month.
Question for whom ever may have the answer.
Does anyone know if Mr. “Old Timer” Garnett is backing DeWolf?
When he speaks I can not understand a word he is saying. However, I’ve been told by sources that he is being paid HEAVILY by DeWolf to switch sides.
Is this true?
I remember in the 2006 election he was a strong member of Dejongh’s opposition. Can anyone shed a light on this?
I was having breakfast some months ago at Commorant and I saw him with Touching wives and Louis Penn and another man I didn’t recognize, but that’s good indication where he is in politics. Anybody meeting with Roosevelt David is in the tank with the Dewolf administration. Someone told me they also so saw him leaving government house on a weekend with the same characters.
Thank you, ‘I Understand’.
I knew that Mr. “Old Timer” Garnett was up to no good. Like father like daughter…….
He became very attractive to DeJongh when he showed them what he has on Donastorg. The Governor will be in offense as well as defense in 2010.
The Old Timers and Young Timers will support deGreat. Together we can and together we will. The force is more powerful than ever. You can not hold down John;he is the Greatest!
Keep dreaming . The greatest thief in history of the VI that is .
The IG just gave their “State of the Mafoliegate Investigation Report”.
deJongh is about to give his “State of the Territory Report.”
Question: Which is more credible?
What does Mr. “Old Timer” Garnett have on DONASTORG?
DeWolf and his crew threw everything plus the kitchen sink at him during the 2006 election.
Anything Mr. “Two-Timer” has is old news…..Mr. Garnett is obviously a snake, people have the sense not to listen to him (if they can understand him when he talks, never have I heard someone abuse the English language like he does).
“Macus”, the pretty mis-educator,Mr. H, et al are all “legitimate” minions of the deJongh Camp, but there is something “Benedict Arnold” about that character known as “Old Timer.”
Enough! You asked a very interesting question; What does Mr. “Old Timer” Garnett have on DONASTORG? He has nothing but a sour feeling because as he said on the radio; “the Donastorg camp is splintered; even his blood relatives are splintered”. Well Mr. “Old Timer” Garnett was only recognized because he supported the Donastorg camp last election. But I am prepared to tell the public the next time Mr. “Old Timer” Garnett gets on the radio that the real reason he turned against the Donastorg camp is because of he could not get the soon to be Governor Donastorg to be somehow his blood relative. So Mr. “Old Timer” Garnett, please pick your fights wisely. I am prepared to take him on anytime he calls the radio station with his ignorance and antics as a paid assassin. Mr. “Old Timer” Garnett please note; at the end of the day there is no real reward for being such a disloyal and disingenuous prick. Hopefully you just might be greeting the Governor is Orange here at Golden Groove in your capacity (undeserved) as a member of the parole board.
Is “disingenuous prick” acceptable CIF language, or is it anything goes as long as a deGreat supporter’s character is being attacked? That type of remark is unnecessary. I would not want to associate with folks who speak dirty and can not debate issues. This Dennis sounds like a menace. He sounds familiar.
As for which report is more credible, the IG Report or State of the Territory Address?, I would say this is a good question. The report is the opinion of the IG. Opinions are not facts or the ruling of a judge. There are factual information in the report and some recommendations. However, how can you tell that it was not the intention of Sen.Dowe to have the funds used for the construction of a security booth(house) and engineering design of security measures at a residence? The person who has drafted the language could best explain the intent of the legislation. Was it six senators or Sen.Dowe only? Why did the others sign the bill without questioning which construction and specifically where these construction would take place? The language is vague about the specific roads to be resurfaced. Therefore, it should not be a surprise that an intelligent person like Bob Moorhead informed PFA to make the funds available. Only a judge can rule that Bob intentionally cause funds to be improperly diverted. The IG is not a judge.
Further, the Governor has not given his speech as yet. He will do so on Monday. You will then be able to determine if his information is accurate and if he is intentionally telling falsehoods. Of course, Foncie’s supporters will say that he is a liar and a thief. Unless the Governor announces that he has robbed us and he is going to resign, Foncie’s supporters will not have anything positive to say. My prediction is that the supporters of deGreat will praise him and his enemies will never admit that the speech is good or credible.Jimmy and Mario will both have very negative remarks to make about the Governor, regardless of how well crafted was the speech or how well it was delivered. They are entitled to their opinions just like the IG.
What federal funds were used in Mafoliegate? The FEDS do not play, they would have the Governor’s head on a platter if federal dollars were misused. I think the IG erred by saying federal funds were involved. All the funds were from PFA. The Legislature can not tell the Executive Branch how to use federal dollars. Is this correct? Can the Legislature tell the Governor how to use the monies from Obama or how to use the rum rebate?
Anonymous @4:32p.m.
YOU ARE DELUSIONAL! Aryou always quick to wan to call the FEDS–now you’re saying they’re incorrect. DELUSIONAL!!!!! If deJongh is smart,(and most of us know he’s not) he’ll bow out of the upcoming election. Hubris, of course, will not allow that.
I cyan wait to cast my vote come Novemeber!!!
You are also an idiot. I’ll save prick for the more worthy!
deGreat stays! The IG can make and fly a kite with the report. It is recommended that Foncie stops dreaming of being governor. He can not serve as a Senate president, because he is inept and slow. The senators in the Majority could have recalled him for negligence to perform his duty, but they were kind. They figured he could be out the Senate faster by running against deGreat. We’ll see who would be laughing after the election. For now, the GOVERNOR rules and the IG does not.Who is the head of the Executive Branch?

Did you actually write the following:”The IG can make and fly a kite with the report.”
Have you lost your “marbles”?
