Christian/Willocks Nominations, Alpine STT Leases on Agenda

(Editor’s Update: The Legislature earlier today voted 9-6 to confirm Atty. Adam Christian and unanimously (15-0) to confirm Atty. Harold Willocks to seats on the bench the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands. A more comprehensive review of the action will be posted later.)

The 28th Legislature will send a message to the community on Monday when it votes on the Superior Court Nominations of Adam Christian and Harold Willocks and the granting of leases to the Alpine Energy Group for the St. Thomas waste to energy facility.

In the case of the judges, we applaud the nomination and expected confirmation of Mr. Willocks and, as mentioned earlier, look forward to calling him “Your Honor.”

However, we are still troubled by the Christian nomination, as the lack of full disclosure on his involvement in the Administrations actions in the “Mafoliegate” issue left the Committee on the Judiciary without sufficient information to make an informed decision when they chose to move him to the full body for confirmation.

Also scheduled is approval of two leases on land that Alpine Energy Group will use to construct its St. Thomas facility. The Alpine project is facing intense public scrutiny as concerns around its cost and impact on health and the environment continue to escalate.

Two of these issues, in our opinion, should certainly be deferred until more information is gathered on both. To move forward on either Christian or Alpine would send a message of disregard for the legitimate community concerns about the appropriateness of both. However, it’s quite likely that both will pass and we will be left to deal with the consequences of both of those decisions.

Then again, it is the Christmas season, a time for miracles. Maybe we’ll get lucky….

What’s not on the attached calendar is the follow-up session in the Mafoliegate matter.  Guess it’s wait ’til next year.

St. Thomians, are you listening? We need to follow suit and do the same thing. Let us continue the productive dialog. It is helpful to recap what has happened in the last 4 yrs and 2 yrs. for Governor and Senators and make wise choices. Some will be harder than others but we have all seen the games and schemes playing out. Do not be fooled by last minute attempts to gain our confidence.

I hope that it is also noticed that any senator who publicly approves of anothers poor spending habits is as guilty as the offender.

Senators Thurland, Sanes, and W. James must at some point come to the realization that by seeking to please the governor, they are actually displeasing a significant number of voters.

Haven’t these three-poor, lost souls realized why “Doc. James’ Son” and “Nelly” are running extremely strong?

Well, it is clear to the voters why!

I think I heard Weber hint at running for senate again, and I hope Springer does too. And if Nellie goes for it again, we have three really good candidates that should win those votes. So, who else is there? Pedro Cruz has kicked-off his campaign already, but I don’t see much of a connection to the community there. I heard Serville is running again, but enough said on that. I’d bet Usie will also run again, but he such a part of the good ol’ boys network, that he will hinder any new ideas such as subdistricting. Neville will probably run too, but I guess we need to see where Mafoliegate goes under his chairmanship first. Brad Nugent was heard to have said he wants to run. Wayne James indicated he was up for another term (he still has a lot of countries he needs to visit).

Who else will we have for consideration? Are we going to have enough new blood to change the old ways? Is St Thomas willing to vote out the senators that have proven to be stalling progress by sitting on bills?

Some of the Senators have tasted the Kool-Aid and they believe deWolf can help get them re-elected. Some of those same senators have been given such generous bonuses(pay-offs) from one of deWolf’s supporters that they don’t mind going home.

My New Year’s wish for all of the corrupt, non leaders in the VI is that they must spend every dollar of that ill-gotten money in court defending themselves against their own Treachery.

Does anyone know about what George Moore has done and if he is a viable candidate? He is running and will be at the Alpine meeting on the 13th…………info like will he be a rubber stamp for the governor, is he/will he listen to the people…..will he represent ALL of the people and not just a few? Is he educated and open to new suggestions? Will he play well with all in the senate?

Tonight I listened to George Flores on Alvin G. What a mess this Flores seems to be. He came across as being a whiner with the “we are US citizens too” even though we dont get to vote, and we are only a step away here on St CroixS, yes, plural on STX. He wasn’t happy at all the the teritory is getting publicity, only how come Biden isnt here. Whiner. He lost my support if he chooses to run. We have elected enough whiners and criers in the past, no more. Listen to him on the morning news, you’ll see.

Can we get some intelligent people to run, please?
