Law Makers or Law Breakers?

Updated :  $1 Million Legislative Actions (now attached below)

beachAfter a hard day of lawmaking, a stroll on a nearby beach can be very relaxing – but this man-made beach violates zoning and pollution laws right in front of the place where the laws are made.

And when a concerned Senator attempted to photograph the illegal transformation of the affected area, he was assaulted by an employee who didn’t want the violations made public.

Senator Adlah “Foncie” Donastorg has called for the termination of  Legislature Executive Director “Lolo” Willis who he said “verbally attacked and physically assaulted him” as he attempted to take pictures of the illegal dumping and construction work in process on the coastline surrounding the legislature.

Last weekend, the Legislature improperly filled in a portion of the harbor and dumped sand in front of its building on St. Thomas. When Donastorg arrived at the Legislature on Wednesday and noticed the activity he said, “I was shocked to see this as I know that the institution did not have and most likely could not get permits for such an action.”  Donastorg sent a letter to Senate President Louis P. Hill criticizing what he described as “wasteful spending on a detrimental and illegal project.”

Willis’ attack came later that morning, as Donastorg photographed the site.

“I have taken a lot of criticism for my defense of our environment over the years,” Donastorg said. “But this is the first time I have ever actually been assaulted. However, I am willing to take blows for our environment as our children’s future health and livelihood depends on protecting it.”

“As it rains today this sand and dirt is now washing into Charlotte Amalie Harbor,” Donastorg said. “I have written Senator Hill requesting the termination of Mr. Willis as he has now demonstrated extremely poor judgment in two cases – attacking an elected official and subjecting the Legislature to Federal and local penalties with the illegal filling of the harbor.”

We heard estimates of the cost today, but haven’t been able to verify so we won’t speculate. But we do know that criminal, civil and Federal penalties could be as much as $10,000 a day and jail time.

Donastorg said he had filed reports about the assault with the Virgin Islands Police Department and the Legislature’s Chief of Security.

The Legislature recently appropriated itself one million dollars for “improvements.”

Is this what they needed that extra million bucks for?

This is a clear violation and punishable by some nice fine’s. “Thou Shall Not Thief the People Dem Sand”. Please guy’s lets see some action, earn that paycheck and the fuel for that Black Tahoe you drive, park at Craig and Sally’s.

You know they may as well just go ahead and make a sign that says “Lolo Beach” and put it down there because that’s all anybody is going to call it anyway.

On the serious side, is anything going to happen about that whole incident last week? Is he still working at the Legislature?

    The Clock Is Ticking,

I could not believe my ears when I heard Mr. Willis commenting on Channel 8 that he is willing to meet the Senator any place and any time for another confrontation. Now is this not a direct threat? Senator Hill is indeed a joke and I truly hope the people of St. Thomas send him home come next election. No wonder Senators are not respected here in the Virgin Islands. Senator Hill must have a real disdain for Senator Donastorg, considering his retention of a staffer who assaulted a Virgin Islands Senator. What is most disturbing about Senate President Hill, is he said publicly he knew nothing about the work that was being performed. Is he sleeping or something, or can I conclude he has poor management skills. I guess we can conclude the latter. A whole beach was built and according to a legislative staffer; right outside the Senate President window at the Legislature. Senator Hill is such a liar and poor excuse for a Virgin Islands Senator. Even more embarrassing; our Crucian Senators permitted this to go unchecked and silent on the issue. Where is Bert Bryan and Chucky Hansen these days? I think at least five of the St. Croix Senators need to go home.

I have sat back and read posts on this site. I personally feel I will stop posting on here period as a result of the stupidity that I read sometimes. People, are you really justifying an assault on a senator. That is plain out stupidity. There are no ifs ands or buts in this situation, Lolo Willis should have been fired and arrested already. I can’t believe what some of you are writing.

IF ANYONE SEES LOCO WILLIS ON THE STREETS, RUN!!!!

    T:
One way he can get the fund’s to even contemplate a run is to figure out a way to charge a fee to get on the beach he created. Unless he can get the help of the senator’s on the take, Dowe-White-Williams the fab (3)’help! I am sure they can coach him into the proper ways of accepting envelopes, for illegal deals. These guys’s are the best in the business, afterall they use the gov’s mouth “french Poodle” to make the contacts.
Street’s have it he’s running back to WSTA where he started as a young man trying to get a job seeing his feerless leader on his way out. Too bad he has burned all his bridges to “Everywhere”.

So who get fired for this? How you going to assault a senator and still keep your job? Do we know how much they pay for this?

If pointing afinger in someones face is a crime, then alot of us need to be jailed. Let’s not b;ow this out of proption. Some of us make a mountain out of a mole hill. Let’s go after real criminals like Mafoliegate.

  11. bb on November 4, 2009 at 4:02 pm

True, but I would think an apology at least in order. And I also want to know how much we pay for the sand.

  12. Dennis on November 9, 2009 at 12:16 am

I guess with the recent news about the Governor admitting he stole the money and will repay it, the Daily News, Avis and St. Thomas Source must be feeling really stupid. Are they not the ones that just simply decided not to cover this story? Should we say that Donastorg was right again? Not to mention Recon and his lawsuit. It appears time will tell these days. You can’t kill the messenger that easy guys so lets get with it. I am sure Louis Willis will be confronted with a dillema sometime in the very near future.
