The abrupt resignation of Dr. Mercedes Dullum from her post as Commissioner of Health surprised some, and came as no shock to others. Her short tenure in the post has raised intense speculation as to what could have forced such a swift and emphatic departure.
Well we can't know for sure, but the recent audit of the Medicare program in the VI might have had something to do with it. To see what she was facing, and understand how the inability to fill out a form has cost the Territory hundreds of thousands of dollars, click here.
The Grand Jury that has been impaneled in the Virgin Islands is focusing its investigation on Sen. Alvin Williams, reliable sources have confirmed to CIF.
Williams, a St. Thomas representative whose legislative office was raided at least once by federal authorities, is the Chairman of the Human Services, Parks and Recreation Committee and, prior to the office raid, was the target of public controversy surrounding allegations that he had used his office staff and resources to obtain an online college degree.
Speculation is rife about the depth of the investigation and the individuals who are being called to testify. Considering all that has transpired that we believe warrant investigation and action, we can only hope that those who are hearing testimony hand down indictments that may be the most effective method to begin to repair the tattered shreds of government in the Virgin Islands.
More than half of the contributions Delegate to Congress Donna Christensen has received in the current election cycle are linked to a Washington contractor who is the subject of a federal inquiry.
According to an article today in the Washington Post, Christensen has received at least $37,000 from contractor Jeffrey Thompson, who is suspected of using “straw” or phantom donors to evade contribution limits that are set for candidates running for office. His operations have drawn the attention of Federal authorities.
According to the article, Thompson’s accounting firm Thompson, Cobb, Brazilio and Associates, has 189 contracts with the federal government, worth $17.1 million. The company has done some business in the Virgin Islands, auditing grant funds awarded by the U.S. Department of Education and the Federal Highway Administration. TCBA recently advertised for an accounting position based in Saint Thomas, Virgin Islands.
Recently, Christensen has urged the Federal Election Commission to investigate the election system of the Virgin Islands, citing public discontent with the way the Board of Elections in operating. Perhaps this current development will hasten their acceptance of her request.
As many of you heard recently, CIF President Michael Springer, at left, delivered the first in a series of radio announcements that will target specific issues and offer analysis on our most pressing concerns.
The feedback on the comments was extremely positive, so CIF will sponsor then as often as possible, and we thank those of you who have already donated! But airtime costs money and we're seeking your help.
If you'd like to help keep our voices on the air, please donate whatever you can using the PayPal button below. We thank you in advance for your support.
Be sure to click on the link below to see the latest iReport on our crippling corruption and scroll down to the comments. A wolverine posting under the name of "Bornyah" is trying to tell the world that the information that's getting some widespread attention is just "half-truth" from "disgruntled" people.
Nice try, Keep on reading and posting people. And send these links to everyone you know!
This past weekend, one of our CIF bloggers started a campaign to post the stories of our discontent on CNN iReports. If you scroll through the blogs from the past three days, you will see that this campaign has grown some very long legs in a very short time.

Deja vu, Pandora. We have been here before, over at the homeless blog.
That’s why history should be taught in an engaging way. Too many people, myself included, don’t like or never learned anything in history due to the focus on dates. In addition, I was never exposed to VI history. What I’ve learned has been in my adult years, but how many people take time to go back and learn any history? This is why we have few people thinking along the lines of liberating ourselves from our politicians…the same people we empowered with our own votes.
Knowledge IS power!!!!
Provided one knows what to do with the knowledge…
And the beat goes on.
THAT PERSON THAT POST #45 IS AN IMPOSTER!!!!
Whats with Senator Dowe and floating all these bonds? Senator James is coming accross as a follower. We elected our St. Croix Senators to be leaders but these days I am not sure they are strong enough to make any difference. Lets keep a close eye on the movements of this sad and weak group.
For some odd reason I am getting the impression the FEDS are about to take over the Police Department. I hope I am wrong.
Although I am not a “fan” of Senator N. James, I must admit that I do agree with his statement on Mario’s show today, when he said the administration needs to “STEP UP TO THE PUMP AND PUMP GAS.”
Kenrick, which one of the James are you talking about?
I was referring to Nevelle James. I find him to be a lazy person. Why is he spending so much time on the radio, does he not have any work to do?
From Wonder to Worry
As the De jongh administration looks to the 2010 campaign, they have begun to transform from WARRIORS to WORRIERS.
Even Marcus complained to “Jimmy” that he is being harassed on the street.
Very well written counterpoint by Bill Kossler over at The Source. Look for “More Grindstone, Less Grandstanding”.
BFS, I think you should stop reading the propaganda at the Source if you really want to understand VI politics. There are so many inaccurate statements in that article that it would take me 1/2 hr to address them…time I don’t have to waste.
Puzzled, don’t you think we should look at and read many varied sources of information before making up our minds?
If all we read is CIF, well, that’s rather limiting. Entertaining, sometimes enlightening, but in the end, limiting.
Just a thought.
I thought the Bill Kossler piece on the Source was a bunch of bunk myself.
Bull Foot Soup, I agree that we all should read many sources, but I agree with Puzzled that the “editorial” you referenced is way off base. Have you read the documents posted here or on the Legislature’s website? Documents trump editorializing, whether on the Source, in the Daily News or on Crucians in Focus. In addition, the federal investigation just began this week and will likely take several months to complete. Buckle your seat belt and sit tight.
I totally agree with Busted. The Source could not bother reporting on any of the information. The Kossler piece is all editorial comment and completely biased.
Just remember when the article is from “Source Staff” it comes from Mr. Greaux. I think we all know by now the press is in bed with this administration. They even have people to call into Rodger’s show to “take” time when the heat gets too hot. I really think they feel we are dumb or something.
Just to prove a point on how bias the Daily News is; look at the Guess Editorial of today in the Daily News and you will note they ommited a section giving a Senator some recognition. This same editorial appeared in the Avis some time back and interestingly it contained the recognition of the Senator. Now guess whose name was ommitted, you guest it, “Senator Donastorg”. The LaValle substation issue. I just think this is so wrong but I guess I will once again be pegged as either Donastorg (Foncie) or his strongest supporter. I really don’t care about the innuendos, but I just think its “Yellow Journalism” and it flies in the face of real democracy. They failed to write an indepth story about the Governors misuse of public funds but target a Senator for doing what most people think and know is right. Something has got to give…. This is getting a little too blatant.
it is about time residents confronted the liars with their displeasure. Why is Jean Greaux allowed to walk among descent people when he has become a notorious liar? The governor should be shame to have a liar reprepresenting him. It is time for greaux. What about the time they found him printing anti Neville James material at the printing office just before the library? What about the famous June 22 press release denying money was spent on the governor’s house? What about the statement that all the governors had major security work done on the private houses, including Juan Luis? All were lies! Greaux needs to go and he should take the rest of the criminals with him!
