It’s Time To Come Clean

August 19, 2009

Enough with all the spinning. It’s time to come clean.

The VI Code and the Department of Justice require public officials to file financial disclosure statements every year and a portion of those filings are public record. Well we are the public and we want to see them.

Crucians In Focus sent a certified letter (attached) to Attorney General Vincent Frazer to provide that information to us. The letter outlines the details of the request and the names of the officials whose filings we want to see.

This is a simple request. These documents are public record and the electorate is entitled to them. If they are not available, we want to know why.

We will keep you posted.

MR. SPRINGER, CAN YOU GIVE US A UPDATE ON YOUR REQUEST FOR COPIES OF PUBLIC RECORDS ON THE FINANCIAL DISCLOSURES OF INDIVIDUALS LISTED IN YOUR REQUEST?

SENATOR SANES APPEARED ON THE ROGER MORGAN SHOW THIS MORNING AND WAS ASKED DID HE FILL OUT A FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE. HE SAID HE DID AND HAS COMPLIED WITH THE LAW. SENATOR SANES ALSO AGREED WITH YOU THAT THESE FINANCIAL DISCLOSURES ARE PUBLIC RECORDS THAT SHOULD BE MADE AVAILABLE FOR PUBLIC VIEWING.

HAVE YOUR REQUEST FOR THESE PUBLIC RECORDS BEEN ACKNOWLEDGED BY THE ATTORNEY GENERAL? DID THE ATTORNEY GENERAL RESPOND TO YOUR REQUEST WITH AN EXPECTED RETURN DATE OF THESE PUBLIC RECORDS?

THIS COMMUNITY WANTS TO REVIEW THESE PUBLIC RECORDS TO ENSURE THAT OUR ELECTED AND APPOINTED GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS ARE COMPLYING WITH THE LAW.

IT IS THE ATTORNEY GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY TO PROSECUTE OFFENDERS OF THE LAW.

  2. SPRINGER UPDATE on September 3, 2009 at 6:35 pm

Mr. Springer was on Mario Moorehead show today and presented a very impressive update on his Crucians In Focus web site. Mr. Springer informed Mario’s audience that CIF was going to post “new” documents related to Governor John P. de Jongh, Jr. corruptions scandal after this Labor Day weekend.

Mr. Springer also mentioned how impressed he was with his bloggers and also sent out fair warnings to those people that might visit his site to be disruptive.

Well Mr. Springer, as a blogger at your web site I would like to say personally that I am very proud of you and proud to be a blogger at your site. I believe most bloggers to include myself provides insightful information to our beloved Virgin Islands community and the Feds…smile… that might not be made available through the local news media’s.

Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of your efforts in the fight against public official corruptions in our territory.

    Yours truly,

    RF

Most if not all of our politicians during the last election touted their support for “transparency in government.”

In this regard, “Disclosure” and “Transparency” are interrelated. Moreover, “Disclosure” helps to “illuminate” the LIGHT OF TRANSPARENCY.

Therefore, I too applaud CIF in its efforts to remain “consistent” in its quest for “Disclosure” and “Transparency.”

QUESTION: Who would prefer a Virgin Islands where there was NO DISCLOSURE or NO TRANSPARENCY?

    ANSWER: THE DISHONEST!

WHY: Because THEY have SOMETHING to HIDE.

That’s true, EyesWideOpen. If the governor and our senators want to fulfill their promise of accountabilty and transparency in government, they have to disclose everything, including infromation that may make them unconfortable.

Somewhere it says something like, “Oh, whosoever without sin throw the first stone…”

My point is, who on earth is without some skeleton in the closet that the opposition can’t turn into a major federal case? No one.

So we’re faced with chosing the least tainted from the pot.

    Not an easy task.

But I’m confident everyone here on CIF will figure it out and make some wise political choices…

    N’est pas?

  8. EyesWideOpen on September 5, 2009 at 10:12 am

    Bull Foot Soup,

You seemed to IMPLY that the administration has “sinned” and has some “skeleton(s) in its closet.” Then, you seemed to assume that everyone else LIKEWISE must have something in his or her closet and therefore CANNOT SPEAK on the issue of corruption.

Mr. Soup, I DO AGREE with your commentary and the IMPLICATION that the administration has “sinned” and has skeleton(s) in its closet,” but I most certainly DISAGREE with any INFERENCE that EVERYONE else also is as guilty!

It is not about “SKELETONS in CLOSETS;” it is about “PUBLIC MONEY in PRIVATE RESIDENCE.”

With respect to PUBLIC CORRUPTION, your use of Deductive Reasoning is obviously flawed.

We all have done things we’re not too proud of, however the key is facing up to your wrongdoing. The problem is that this adminisitration chooses to issue lie after lie in defense of their illegal acts and continues to govern with deceit as their foundation. Anyone who follows the campaign promises will see the complete opposite of what was promised. Elections do indeed seem to be a choice of the lesser of evils, however the last gubernatorial election produced the complete opposite.

I acknowledge what you say, Puzzled, Eyes and others.

Therefore we can only wait for the results of the various investigations that the Feds are allegedly conducting into the current Administration.

What was the outcome of this request?

  12. just wondering on December 3, 2009 at 9:59 pm

I was wondering the same thing. Has the AG met with your request. PLEASE PROVIDE AN UPDATE.

Might be time to send it Certified Mail/Return Receipt and copy the United States Attorney.

If the law isn’t enforced (not just against a select few), then it should be taken off the books.
