Note To Our Readers

July 20, 2009

It’s election time so it’s time to repeat this message to our bloggers.

And the message is simple:

Comments that include name calling, profanity, references to personal relationships (real or imagined), sexual activities or orientation, undocumented criminal activity and other behavior of individuals that is unrelated to the topic being addressed will be removed from the site.

The volume and quality of most of the comments posted here are stellar – clear, direct and on point. It’s the kind of interactive discussion we value above all else.

But if a comment crosses the line – and if you’ve been here for a while you know that line is extremely flexible – then it will be pulled.

The purpose of this website is to keep Virgin Islanders informed on topics that affect us, and to provide a forum for discussion on those topics. All views are welcome, provided they address the topic at hand, and spirited disagreement is encouraged.

Some will call this censorship – and we are prepared for that. That is not our intent. It is our hope that the majority of our readers understand that to maintain the credibility of the site as a fact-based destination for information and credible commentary, some controls must be in place.

Carry on.

Thank you.

Be careful U-Turn. You’re going to take a hit for that post.

I don’t think we need to commend people for doing what they are supposed to do. Should we start handing out gold stars next? It would be commendable if the senators drove their own cars and billed for mileage and gas when they are on official business.

    U-Turn, good info.

When will the Virgin Islands community be able to praise Senator Hill for endorsing immediate hearings on the misuse of public funds at the Governor’s private residence?

To this day, this senate has been mute on the subject of senate hearings on the misuse of public funds.

Can you let the community know when we can expect a public endorsement by Senator Hill for these hearings?

Do you know if he endorses the idea of senate hearings or will simply remain silent like Governor de Jongh?

Senator Hill is the senate president. He did tell the community, when he became senate president, that we will see leadership in the senate. We still waiting. This waiting is like the saying, “Where’s the BEEF”.

If getting use cars is the best he can do, the community would have been better served by Senator Donastorg. At lease he was trying to clean up corruption and get our money back.

Pandora, I sent an email to the CIF administrator about that subject and more. Maybe new posts on that and other social issues will appear.

Politics is fun but there is so much more that needs to be addressed.

I realize that the name calling and personal attack should not be done and you have stated that over and over again, however why is it that the present administration feel that they can do it and get away with it? Your site is our ONLY WAY of taking out our fustration on the administration providing that what is said it TRUE! I also feel that you should not back down from having persons view their feelings. I know in another area i mentioned that you are correct for not allowing persons to be disrecpectful, However your site is the only site where persons feel that they can say exactly what’s on their mind providing that they don’t get too personal and that all the facts are correct. Remember sometimes when we aired our view we feel a little vindicated by the wrong that being done! I also understand that you are protecting yourself from being sued but slander is not slander if it true! Additionaly, If I say that persons in a praticular department is doing wrong against the employees and the viewers can pick up exactly who i’m speaking about and the word get to that person in some cases, that person can correct themselves, because most of the time they don’t relize that they are being MEAN and that their time will come.
Another reason for me loving this site is the fact that the little person get the opportunity to keep themselves out of jail by SAYING EXACTLY WHAT’S ON THEIR MINDS. For me I’m the type of person that speak my mind. Somethime speaking for the persons who are afraid to. S0000000000 CIF I understand but remember you are our conduit to the persent administration and all others to come. Personal attacks SHOULD NOT BE DONE!, but is it still personal when it becomes public knowledge that something wrong was done by the person. We are very quick to put the youths name and pictures in the media, and high official we have a habit of wanting to sweep it under the rug AND DON’T BRING IT UP AGAIN!

June, interesting. I never got feed back from Pandora to my above question number 19. It look like Pandora couldn’t find anything.

  7. Lord Send Help on July 22, 2009 at 10:32 am

This is why we the people need to stop holding a blind eye and speak out on the wrong doing in Govt. Even if it is being done by a friend. People need to be held accountable, especially when people are suffering in this comunity and a selective few are getting rich off the Govt funds unlawfully. Enough is enough.

  8. ROBIN HOOD on July 22, 2009 at 11:23 am

YOU COULD OF NOT STATED BETTER HELP, THIS ADMINISTRATION IS NOTHING BUT A BUNCH OF CROOKS. THE COMMISSIONERS ARE OUT THERE TRYING TO COVER UP FOR THE GOVERNOR,THEY KNEW WAS DOING WRONG WHEN HE TOOK GOVERNMENT MONEY TO REPAIR HIS RESIDENCE AT ESTATE MAFOLIE 23-8 & 23-9 ST THOMAS. AS OF THE ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE, ATTY. E.M DAVIS KNOWS THERE WAS NO LEGAL GROUNDS TO AURTHORIZE THESE REPAIRS,HE ONLY WROTE THIS OPINION SO HE COULD OF BEEN CONSIDERED FOR THE AG JOB. IF WE ALLOW THESE SET OF CROOKS TO CONTINUE WITH WHAT THEY ARE DOING THESE ISLANDS ARE DOOMED.I SAY 2010 THATS THE END. (ANYBODY BUT JOHN} DOG AN ALL LOOKING WORK.

  9. St.Clair on July 22, 2009 at 11:37 am

Be careful Robin Hood. CIF going to censor you for calling people a “BUNCH OF CROOKS”.

Anybody know what happen to they previous entries about Hill. It look like CIF censor that too. I beginning to wonder if there is a cover up going on?

  10. Anonymous on July 22, 2009 at 12:52 pm

The threat of lawsuits is boss. Remember That.

  11. Iroy on July 22, 2009 at 2:13 pm

That’s the same thing the governor told the community through he press man. He say he gone sue we for talking the truth about he. Why these corrupt public official always violating our constitutional rights to free speech.

They governor have they same free speech rights and use them to threaten we with law suits. In his case, we later founded out he was lying about using our money on he private residence. So far he or any other accused government officials has come forward to confirm or deny.

When these government man gone stop threatening we. I hope CIF didn’t get intimidated and buckled under them man threats.

What a way for a community to live. Always under constant threats of law suits from they own government.

What a way to live. I feel like we in Iran under a dictatorship.

  12. U-Turn on July 22, 2009 at 2:15 pm

Senator Hill’s action were commendable not just because of what he did but because of what he did not do. He could have authorized the purchase of 15 new vehicles, rather than acquire used ones. Additionally, he reportedly is having two-thirds of those vehicles sent to St. Croix.

Senator Hill is also reportedly considering addtional cost-saving measures to include requiring senators to drive their own cars and be reimbursed for mileage.

In everything there should be balance: we rightfully critize, we should rightfully recognize commendable efforts of our public officials.

  13. EyesWideOpen on July 22, 2009 at 2:30 pm

    U-Turn,

Why are you defending Senator Hill so feverously? Has the temperature risen somewhere?

Your posturing began the day we heard that the Department of Interior would join the Local Inspector General to conduct an audit of the Senate.

The focus of the audit is the Senate, not Senator Hill.

So tell me, why are you focusing on that one senator?

  14. Iroy on July 22, 2009 at 2:46 pm

EyesWideOpen, I notice they same thing. U-turn sound like a bright man but it don’t take a bright man to see U-turn going overboard to defend Sen Hill. U-turn, is something going on with Sen Hill that he need all this defending?

I though Foncie said the legislature was buy new Tahoes?

  16. Confusion and Confession on July 22, 2009 at 3:21 pm

Speaking of Senator Hill and cars. Did anyone see or hear the senate hearing on Monday, July 20th? Senator Hill was trying to chastise the Commissioner of Property and Procurement for purchasing commissioners luxury SUV’s. Senator Hill conveniently omitted the Governor and LI Governor from his chastisement even though it’s a known fact that they also recently purchase luxury SUV’s for themselves.

Well, I have to give the Commissioner of Property and Procurement credit for lashing back at the Senator when she dropped a dime on her boss. She told Senator Hill on the record that the Governor had put a moratorium on the purchase of new cars since last June 2008.

In other words, if you going to chastise commissioners, don’t leave out the Governor. He violated his own moratorium.

Needless to say, the Senator didn’t want to go any further on record with this line of questioning and quickly changed the subject. Check the transcript for yourself.

Our good lord is bringing all of them to confusion and confession.

Anonymous, if you insist on continuing on with your propaganda, please take the time to review what your writing. “was buy new Tahoes”

You’re becoming very annoying. It’s time for CIF to censor your nonsense.

  18. Anonymous on July 22, 2009 at 4:18 pm

Sam, you are correct. I forgot the word ‘to” before ‘buy’. Censor me because I won’t drink the Foncie Kool-Aid? I have to right to look at things and people how I want to. You just changed your name to whomever you normally claim you are and hating on others. I’m here to keep the likes of you in check OK. Gone.

  19. Verdel L. Petersen on July 22, 2009 at 4:24 pm

    What a surprising change!

I always thought that this site was an opportunity to be brutally honest and express oneself without being censored. There is no harm to anyone if an opinion is stated with the use of language offensive to certain people. The truth is an offense and who the cap fits let them wear it.

If you are going to be consistent, why are some bloggers allowed to refer to the governor as DeWolf?

As I always play by the rules, I will try to avoid words that may be removed. How could I possibly know which words are prohibited? Is “witch” preferable to “b**ch”?

Since the image of the site is being sanitized, how about doing a literacy drive? It would be nice to see mastery of English grammar on this site. Some of the bloggers do not convey their messages effectively and have difficulty writing a complete sentence that is coherent.

Nevertheless, I applaud the administrators for their effort in enhancing the quality of this website. Thank you!

Anonymous, I noticed you also enjoy making threats. “The threat of lawsuits is boss. Remember That.” See number 30 above.

There is absolutely no reason the participants of this forum should be subjected to your threats and verbal abuse.

CIF, action is long over due on this so call “Anonymous”. We, the participants of your forums should not be subjected to any further threats and verbal abuse. This has got to stop now.
