Has this site dried up?
I’d like to thank the 5 senators who showed up for last Saturday’s town meeting- Thurland, N. James, Richards, Nelson, and Donastorg. I’m sure they expected to see a lot more people. We “dropped the ball” by not being there in large numbers to prove beyond question that the people will not accept this degree of curruption. I hope there will be another oppertunity soon, and that more people actually show up.
Persona,
You’re really trying my patients. It’s “opportunity” not “oppertunity”.
Smile.
Sam,
You’re really not as good a speller as you think you are. It’s “patience” not “patients”.
Both of you, whomever you are if you’re the same person talking to yourself, need to chill.
Greetings,
As an attendee of the Town Hall Meeting, I was surprised more people hadn’t shown up. One person commented about the fact it was held from 2p-5p in the hot sun. Thing is I don’t hear anyone complaining about the sun being hot during Festival Activities or any other time of socializing.
“We the People” held this forum to give the people of St. Croix the opportunity to bring the outstanding concerns and issues of our Community to the attention of our public servants and insured even the participation by those who could not be there physically by being able to tune into 1620AM.
Even though the broadcast started late (no fault of “We the People”) many questions were asked and there is definitely a need for a follow-up town hall meeting. What was different was the people asked their questions and made their comments first and the Senators had to listen to those concerns before they were allowed to speak. I can only imagine what may have happened if as usual, the public servants had the floor first. The issues we heard may never have come forward, such as homelessness.
We keep saying vote for anyone but so & so, but who are we replacing that person with? Someone with integrity? or anyone else at all who comes with their own agenda and not truly the agenda of We the People of the Virgin Islands?
The election system is a joke and TPTB (the powers that be) know we are too lazy to actually get off our butts and search out and support those who have demonstrated loyalty to the People of these beautiful Virgin Islands and are/have a long range plan to truly implement policies that take into consideration the effects of our short term planning.
By loyalty, what is in the best interest of our children’s children. Has that person shown that they are service to self or service to others? TPTB know they can count on us being divided amongst ourselves because they have whispered divisive things in our ears. Will we say no to the same voting machines and vote by paper ballot for our candidates of integrity or be disappointed when the machines again select our leadership? DO we keep sitting and waiting for a saviour or do we save ourselves by thinking like a hammer & not allowing our emotions to dictate our actions?
If we truly want change, we are going to have to fight “the system” to get it. That can only happen when like minded thoughtful people with integrity set their egos aside and come together through planning to force change. All I keep hearing is talk. Through action we can achieve more than we give ourselves credit for and “We the People” made a bold action by calling this Town Hall Meeting.
Peacelover, I agree with you about the lack of active participation in social and political concerns on the part of VI citizens. I too attended the town meeting and was disappointed in the turn out, but I wasn’t surprised. There have been many examples of poor participation in protests, meetings, and petitions in the past. We are a very fractured society, and we are very slow to move in any direction. When we do move, it’s usually in several opposing directions. I think the continuous “talk” you hear is simply people trying to have others reach a consensus on a unifying issue. If this could be achieved, it would be much harder for our representatives to exploit us.
