Peter Sets World Youth Record with Photofinish in 200m Race
It was a week of record breaking firsts for St. Croix runner Allison Peter, 17, as she raced to two silver medals and a World Youth Record at the 6th Annual World Youth Championships in Sudtirol, Italy last week.
She was the first female US Virgin Islander to make a final in this competition and the first to medal in the 100 and 200 meter races.
It was in the 200m race, which Peter ran in 23.08 seconds that set the World Youth Record and earned her the second of two silver medals in the competition. That race ended in a photo finish.
Peter also medaled in the 100m race, taking silver with her personal best time of 11.41 seconds.
Peter is already a four-time medal winner in previous events and recently took third place at the Nike Nationals in the 100m and 200m setting V.I. National Records.
Allison, who will be a senior at the St. Croix Educational Complex this fall, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Peter. She has been running track for eight years.

Congratulations World Champion and Welcome Home!

Congratulations to Allison Peters on her big win! Yes, she won. When you see the photo finish you will agree. Allison gives us something to celebrate and be proud of at a time when local politics is embarassing and depressing. Hats off to the 50 or so people who, along with channel 8, met Allison at the airport. What happened to channel 2 ????
Congrats Allison and thank you for showing the world that the Virgin Islands has untapped talent. Despite the shoddy state of our high school tracks, you and our other track athletes continue to represent the Virgin Islands well. Keep up the good work!
I can’t wait until she goes to college and starts on a complete fitness program. Ms. Peters will be awesome.
Congratulations to Ms. Peters as well. We have so many talented young people in the VI. With some encouragement and support many others can achieve great things like this young lady.
Congratulations Allison. You have made us all proud. In my estimation, you are the winner of the 200 meter race, even though officially the athlete from Great Britain was officially declared the winner because her chest crossed the finish line before yours. However several other parts of your body crossed thei finish line before hers as is clear in the photo finish.
Don’t worry, you will meet again and when your chest crosses first, you will get the gold.
Keep up the great work. You are a role model for young and old alike.
Congratulations, Allison Peters on a job well done! I do wish you continued success in all your undertakings. I truly believe that this is only the beginning, for you are most certainly destine to accomplish great things, and I know we will be hearing greater things about you in the future.
I do pray, however, that we as a community will begin to see the importance of backing our athletes to the fullest, and not just sing praises to them after they have brought national pride to our shores.
As a people we must, support sports in the Territory, like we have never done before, if we are truly going to invest in the future of all the children of the Virgin Islands.
I am one, who strongly believe that sports can indeed be the catalyst for pointing our children “In A New Direction”. We as a people must, begin to put our money where our mouth is, and give to our children a fighting chance. Knowing that with examples such as “Allison Peters” we will not fail.
Once again Allison I congratulate you, and I do wish you the very best.
Blessings!
Allison, just one word CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
Congrats Allison!
Thank you guys for the comment and the support I really appreciate it.
