If At First You Don’t Succeed

July 13, 2009

We knew it wouldn’t go any farther than his request but we understand why he did it.

No one had any real hope for success when Senator Adlah “Foncie” Donastorg called for a waiver of the rules to repeal Act 6905 during last weeks’ Special Session at the Legislature.  He knew the procedures, and the majority, were against him. But he did it anyway and his point was made.

There will be another time, another place.

Just remember.

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.

Senator Donastorg, just like your “challenging” of Prosser, what does this mean to the people of the Virgin Islands?

Maybe you should call his office and ask him. 774-0880

I guess it means we are no longer paying for Prosser’s jet, art collection and wine cellar thanks in part to the good Senator.

All of those new senators promised that they are against 6905, but no one else seem to be trying to do anything about it.

    What do you suggest, Hip?

What ever ones feeling about him, it seems to me that Senator Donastorg is consistently on the right side of the issues – prosser and vitelco, the landfill issues, botany bay rezoning, … to name a few.

I applaud his willingness to take a stand, even when it seems unpopular or not politically expedient. Act 6905 will likely never be repealed. However, I greatly appreciate the Senator’s attempt to keep it on the floor.

When the Senators voted to waive the rules to bring the bond bill to the floor, they opened a can of worms. Senator Richards, who held authorship to the bill, asked Legal Counsel if the rules of the Legislature permitted such actions to which counsel replied, on the record, in the affirmative. I believe we’ll soon see who wants it repealed vs who doesn’t. Will it be repealed? I highly doubt it.

You make good points, Not So Fast, but you don’t have to post them in every discussion.

Crucian in West- I second the motion of who don’t like Foncie in 2010, go diving without a air tank, because I will continue to sing his praises.

I second that motion as well. Anyone who is willing to sacrife themselves so often, got my support. I was never a supporter of the Senator but I now beleive he has the people’s interest to heart.

He didn’t succeed this time around but I bet at the end of the day he will be vindicated once again on both fronts. A little birdie told me the Governor fought for that salary took great offense to the Senator Donastory bringing this issue up again. To add to the choir of the Governor was Senators Neville James and Louis Hill. They are sure protecting their salaries at any cost. Now, it appears they are trying to jump on the bandwagon regarding the Governor indiscretions regarding his private home improvements. I am not sure they can distance themselves from this issue especially when the bandit Senator Dowe spilled the beans and said all 14 other Senators knew this money was going to be used for the Governor’s private home improvements. This is really getting interesting. Do we really beleive those Senators are going to support Senator Donastory on repealing 6905? I doubt it.
