Governor: Confirm or Deny

July 1, 2009

It appears that before there was an $85,000 Guardhouse and a $98,000 Security Fence, there was a $156,000 driveway laid at Governor John P. deJongh, Jr.’s personal residence.

Yes, we are serious.

The attached documents show that in October, 2007, Darryl Smalls, then Commissioner Designee of the Department of Public Works, gave the notice to proceed on the driveway project to the Better Roads and Asphalt Company of St. Thomas.

Cost of this project? Reportedly, $156,160 of local and federal Highway Funds.

Clearly some explanation is required, and Senator Adlah “Foncie” Donastorg has requested it.

In a letter to the Governor dated July 1, 2009, Sen. Donastorg has challenged deJongh to “confirm or deny specifically as to whether this and other improvement projects actually took place and were paid for in whole or in part with public funds.”

In a separate letter, also dated July 1, Donastorg has also requested that Smalls produce and deliver to him “all documents and records of Public Works Department endeavors associated with repairs and improvements to Governor John deJongh’s personal residence at 23-8 Estate Mafolie” by close of business on July 1.

In our opinion, any responsible public official would promptly refute assertions of the serious nature that these inquiries represent if, in fact, they were incorrect or grounded in inaccurate information.

We’re waiting.

Governor: confirm or deny.

My sister has worked at the Legislature for years and she said its no secret that Foncie never introduces legislation in committee because he’s afraid to expose his inability to read properly.

Under this topic “Confirm or Deny” we are getting off the track regarding the governor’s unethical and possibly illegal actions. By campaigning for this or that person, the impression is being made that there are ulterior motives for going against Gov.de Jongh. I personally had nothing against the governor until he brought the Diagio deal as a top priority over more critical and immediate problems affecting the people. When a close look at the deal showed a very one-sided agreement with uncertain benefit for us, I began to mistrust this governor. I find the current abuse of public funds shocking and totally unacceptable. As far as I’m concerned this administration has no credibility and the next administration will only be better if we, the people, react with outrage and demand justice. So, let’s stay on it. see#266 EYES WIDE OPEN

I just decided to do some research and discovered some of the attacks on Donastorg remains obvioulsly personal. Daily News Reader said he would embarrass us; did you know he was selected as a panel speaker a year ago by the Kansas Law Review? Did you know he testified before the Louisianna Senate and was recognized for his accomplishments in the area of environment? Crucian4life goes on to say, he never introduces legislation in committee’s because he can’t read….; haven’t you realize its required to know how to read to deliver effective messages. I am convinced they all attack this man for doing right. Again, I was not a supporter but I thought it was fair for me to do the research and it became obvious they (opposition) could only try and attack him on personal issues. Its a shame…I sure bet he would not have used public funds to enrich himself. When I googled his name this morning I was totally astonished. I love animals but not the ones found in the Legislature. I am still waiting to hear what Senator Donastory did wrong. But for apparent and self-serviing reasons they continue to attack this man asthough there is a mission to destroy him. I did not support him last election because I thought he was to young and arrogant, but after these repeated attacks I was compelled to research his background for myself and low and behold its so much he has done. Oh and before I forget, I read he was the one that took the Government to court to make sure we the people received our due income tax refunds. That in itself is a major accomplishment for me. I am going to call his office and ask him to address this issue again since Governor dejough is looking out for himself and not concern about the people’s income taxes. Thanks to those of you who opened my eyes about Donastorg with your attacks and led me to research for myself. Donastorg in 2010….

Anybody notice how Malcolm McGregor’s (the governor’s special assistant and stx campaign manager during the election) son was featured in the St. Croix Avis a little more than a week ago? There was a picture of Governor de Jongh, the director of WAPA, and two students. One of the students was Malcolm McGregor’s son. The two men were recipients of monetary scholarships. Mr. McGregor’s son was awarded some $60,000. Doesn’t the governor sit on WAPA’s board??? Is this not a gross conflict of interest??? How were the scholarship recipients selected? Doesn’t this seem a bit out of place and more like the wave of corruption and “the unmitigated gall” we have been seeing from the de Jongh administration?

I am certain that the young boy is bright and intelligent and all that, but $60,000 (it may have been more I don’t remember)??? Were there not other students who were also worthy?

    Concern From West –
I saw that scholarship award on News 8 and I wondered the exact same thing. Isn’t that a little too close for comfort? Nothing against the young man, but I would like to know what was the criteria was for awarding those scholarships and how they came about making those decisions.

    Persona Non Grata –
I couldn’t agree with you more. This thread should not be a forum for promoting Foncie. Let’s stick with the outrage at the misuse of our money.

Ditto. I could not have said it better, myself!

As the old people say well well well. And that is what we are in a deep well. We can’t get our income tax money, we cannot fix our houses, some of us can’t even buy food or pay for a good education for our children, we are not safe not even in our homes. but the Governor with all the men he have to protect him have money to fix his oun house not the Government House but his own house well well well. What is next . GOD HELP THE PEOPLE OF THE Virgin Islands of the United States.

Foncie, aka Colette plus the other characters you are hiding behind, Louisiana has 1 “n” in it, not 2. We realize that you assumed that “ana” was the same as your friend Santo friend Anna, but at some point you need to stop exposing yourself like you do. In a weird way though, Thanks. You validated what they been saying about you all along.

Anonymous, you always seems to attack the Senator. What is your point?I’m not a fan or supporter of Senator Donastorg, but we have to give credit where credit is due.I work at government House, and I can tell you it’s not easy working for this Administration. This Administration is the most corrupt I’ve ever seen in Government. The Senator is opening the eyes of the people that was once asleep.I for one is wide awake.I applaud Senator donastorg for bringing this type of corruption to the people of the Virgin Islands.Again,Anonymous what is your point?

  15. Anonymous on July 15, 2009 at 9:44 pm

De Jongh Big Supporter Government House, or whomever you are, you are exactly the reason why Foncie is the fraud he is. My point is that this site is nothing more than a place for Sorry Foncie to vent and we enjoy coming here listening to him vent behind the various names posting here. You just might be one of them. This is the farce that is CIF represents and I’m having a good time joining in from time to time.

Again Anonymous,or whomever you are,What is your point, and what do you represent? You sound very sick and hurt. This is not about Senator Donastorg. This is about Dejongh using tax payers money on his personal resident so Please stick to the issue at hand.

I have never gain anything from this administration. I do not have a political job and I am not looking for any political favors. My point is simply that the governor has not committed a crime. If he is convicted, you player-haters will have the last laugh. At this moment, the governor could enjoy the fact that he is secure and comfortable in his own home. While the player-haters ***** and moan, I hope the governor is not stressing too much on how the detractors are trying to destroy his reputation.
To those who hate my guts, please be informed I am very happy at home.I will not be deterred in expressing my opinion. None of the document on this site proves the governor violated any law of the VI Code. If he chooses to live in his own home and the Organic Act disallows this, shut up or do something about that. Action speaks louder than words. You are too coward to give your real names. The governor can not fire a classified employee for expressing an opinion. Your real fear is that you could be charged with libel.
I would actually like for President Barack Obama to read the proposed VI Constitution. It contains numerous grammatical errors, contradictions and ambiguities. He would wonder why the VI gets so much federal aid and supposedly educated people cannot produce an acceptable constitution. Why don’t you player-haters send the draft that you are so proud of to him? If you think this draft is so wonderful, send it to the United Nations. Be bold and take a stand.Throwing stones at me speaks volume of your character. You lack the ability to debate issues!
It was entertaining to read the comments about me. Laughter is truly the best medicine. I look forward to hearing more comedy. The names of the bloggers are creative.

Ananymous, I would really like to know why you keep bringing up the concepts and personal attacks based on Foncie. It is really getting old now. I’m just assuming you are one of the pissed off deJongh voters who has just realized that you made the wrong choice. This administration is corrupt and I would have gladly traded it to witness an administration with either Mapp or Donastorg as Governor. Stick to the topic.

  19. Colette on July 16, 2009 at 1:19 am

    Anonymous,

I think you are probably experiencing some terrible nightmares about Senator Donastorg. I could only but wonder how the media would have been all over Senator Donastorg or maybe Mapp had they done what dejongh is doing or did? Did he stop using our public funds to enrich himself? I guess Anonymous was planted to inspire us with his rethoric about the Senator. Once again, who is lying here? This is the real issue at hand. Are you still in denial or did you accept the Govenor was lying and needs to come clean with the people of the Virgin Islands. Your attacks on the messenger is so baseless. Everything you have posted appears to be personal attacks and nothing has been issue oriented. I am convince we are dealing with individuals here who are working for the administration and have no choice but to defend the one committing the wrong. Why don’t you guys attack the U.S. Attorney General as well, then just maybe he might get really pissed and expedite things.

  20. BREAKING NEWS: VIRGIN ISLANDS COMMUNITY SENDING OUT DISTRESSED “SOS” MESSAGES TO PRESIDENT BARRACK OBAMA on July 16, 2009 at 6:18 am

Virgin Islanders throughout the territory has begun a personal plea campaign sending out distressed “SOS” messages to President Barrack Obama. President Obama is committed to creating the most open and accessible administration in American history. His administration request that questions, comments, and concerns be sent to the President or his staff, using the link below:
    http://www.whitehouse.gov/CONTACT/

Virgin Islands are requesting that the President step in and return federal law enforcement back to the territory along with federal government investigation of Governor de Jongh.

Mean while, according to the St. Thomas source, its business as usual for the Governor in suppressing and concealing crucial information from the public:

“ While Government House declined to answer questions about the confidential letters, the governor’s spokesman, Jean P. Greaux, Jr. issued the following statement Tuesday.“We see what has developed as unfortunate and we are working to resolve the issues through legislation.”

We will continue to monitor these developments.
