The abrupt resignation of Dr. Mercedes Dullum from her post as Commissioner of Health surprised some, and came as no shock to others. Her short tenure in the post has raised intense speculation as to what could have forced such a swift and emphatic departure.
Well we can't know for sure, but the recent audit of the Medicare program in the VI might have had something to do with it. To see what she was facing, and understand how the inability to fill out a form has cost the Territory hundreds of thousands of dollars, click here.
The Grand Jury that has been impaneled in the Virgin Islands is focusing its investigation on Sen. Alvin Williams, reliable sources have confirmed to CIF.
Williams, a St. Thomas representative whose legislative office was raided at least once by federal authorities, is the Chairman of the Human Services, Parks and Recreation Committee and, prior to the office raid, was the target of public controversy surrounding allegations that he had used his office staff and resources to obtain an online college degree.
Speculation is rife about the depth of the investigation and the individuals who are being called to testify. Considering all that has transpired that we believe warrant investigation and action, we can only hope that those who are hearing testimony hand down indictments that may be the most effective method to begin to repair the tattered shreds of government in the Virgin Islands.
More than half of the contributions Delegate to Congress Donna Christensen has received in the current election cycle are linked to a Washington contractor who is the subject of a federal inquiry.
According to an article today in the Washington Post, Christensen has received at least $37,000 from contractor Jeffrey Thompson, who is suspected of using “straw” or phantom donors to evade contribution limits that are set for candidates running for office. His operations have drawn the attention of Federal authorities.
According to the article, Thompson’s accounting firm Thompson, Cobb, Brazilio and Associates, has 189 contracts with the federal government, worth $17.1 million. The company has done some business in the Virgin Islands, auditing grant funds awarded by the U.S. Department of Education and the Federal Highway Administration. TCBA recently advertised for an accounting position based in Saint Thomas, Virgin Islands.
Recently, Christensen has urged the Federal Election Commission to investigate the election system of the Virgin Islands, citing public discontent with the way the Board of Elections in operating. Perhaps this current development will hasten their acceptance of her request.
As many of you heard recently, CIF President Michael Springer, at left, delivered the first in a series of radio announcements that will target specific issues and offer analysis on our most pressing concerns.
The feedback on the comments was extremely positive, so CIF will sponsor then as often as possible, and we thank those of you who have already donated! But airtime costs money and we're seeking your help.

Be sure to click on the link below to see the latest iReport on our crippling corruption and scroll down to the comments. A wolverine posting under the name of "Bornyah" is trying to tell the world that the information that's getting some widespread attention is just "half-truth" from "disgruntled" people.
Nice try, Keep on reading and posting people. And send these links to everyone you know!
This past weekend, one of our CIF bloggers started a campaign to post the stories of our discontent on CNN iReports. If you scroll through the blogs from the past three days, you will see that this campaign has grown some very long legs in a very short time.

I’m so sick and tried of the corruption in government that on this matter I can’t seem to get my thoughts together! Each time i try to write my comments, it just doesn’t make sense. We need Donastorg to make some changes that dejongh people thought we would have made.
And if Donastorg start to do the same thing NEXT!
They never dig up anything serious on Donastorg yet and lord knows that Prosser, the Daily News, the deJongh camp and Louis P. all have tried.
Kenrick,
If a contract goes through the procurement process is it assumed its because government money was used? Now, the contracts clearly demonstrate Property and Procurement was involve in the bidding and execution of contracts, therefore public monies were used. Afterall, why would the Governor have contracts go through Property and Procurement if he was using private money. This whole thing is fishy. I for one can’t wait for it to unravel, that is, if it ever unravel. Let us not forget, the Governor have demonstrated he really represent the rich. Haven’t you guy’s notice the Avis tried to make it seem that Donastorg was doing something wrong? This must also be a concern. I just hope Donastorg don’t get gun shy since the media is all bought out by the Governor and his people. There goes Democracy….
Good point Colette. However, I assumed the money was government money. I thought the big deal was that the governor was using PFA money. If the governor is using PFA money, then the Legislature is supposed to have a say in it. There wasn’t any debate about this. I am not sure, but does the governor also need the Legislature to designate the money to build the guardhouse/fence even if it comes from the government coffers? That is what you get when the executive branch is gone wild.
The Governor should not be using Gov’t funds for ANY of his personal bills. The People pay him well for that plus a multitude of other perks.
The evidence and the checks to prove that the Director of communications for government house is lying. He was the same one who got on the radio and said the governor supported McCall when it was plain the governor was offering the job to several people. One week later Francis is named. The dewolf gang has bought the media and jean greaux routinely tries to get owners of radio station to get Mario and Jimmy off the air by offering money. This gang believes everybody can be bought out. Greaux said no public funds were spent on the governor’s house. That is a lie. The first thing that dies when democracy is under attack is the truth and they should be called out for lying so boldly to the public.
The Saturday morning talk shows have carefully avoided this issue. Everyone seems to be waiting to see what will happen before they risk a comment. Let’s see what Mario’s show will bring out.
Stanford should be shaking in his shackles after Madoff’s sentencing. I wonder if the fed’s investigation of Stanford will implicate any of our local polititians. Could they have allowed that amount of money to slip past them without putting out a net?
Isnt the president of WMK the same individual that went to jail for fraud after Hugo or Marilyn? Cutting corner seems to be his MO.
Fix the governer’s house up and build a new beach, but NOOO we can’t fix the faulty wiring at Eudora Kean High School now can we. I would feel ashamed if I where a part of this current administration. Wonder if any of them feel that way????
THEY NEED TO TELL HIM TO RESIGN AND PASS THE LAW BY THE SENATE THAT HE COULD NOT RUN EVER AGAIN WHICH IS YHE COMING YEAR 2010
Hi Guys/Gals. First time for me being part of this Website. Thanks to Mr Springer for making it available.Ladies and Gentlemen !What a “STROMO”! ” LAWD SEND PLENTY HELP” We need a resolutin to this fiasco very soon and see all responsible go and keep Allen Stanford company dressed in a Bright Orange Suit.
Why did the governor make it thus far without enhanced security? Why did it get constructed near the end of his reign? Is there a real purpose for the fancy guardshack? Would it comfortably house, let’s say, a single mother with infant child?
Don’t stop, you have a vision and i agree with you!
Why is the gov’s new baby such a taboo item for discussion? Really, can someone please explain? Does he plan to sit & read to the kid, so all will be ok? I need enlightment…
Where is the proof of a baby for the Gov?
Who is the mother?
Don’t talk what you can’t back up with PROOF!
Proof, thanks. That could be the answer…there ain’t no visible proof yet…
he did say at UVI graduation that in the next 21 or 22 years his son will be walking down the the hall for graduation ,As far as im concerned he as no little baby with Cecile, Or am i wrong ?
Maybe the Gov. can’t count.
Can he even write ?
