VI Board of Education - Malibu LT

We couldn’t help but notice that the VI Board of Education staff whips around in shiny new dual-exhaust air conditioned cars while students at John H. Woodson Junior High School suffer through the heat with only dual exhaust fans to move the stifling air.

Makes you wonder where the financial priorities lie….
We’re just sayin…

    June,

I wouldn’t want you to get locked-jaw from having your mouth open so long. [Smile] Lighten up. There’s nothing personal here.

Perhaps your comments would be the same if the vehicle belonged to Public Works or the V.I. Waste Management Authority. I don’t know. However, it part I was seeking to indicate that whether the VIBE purchased a vehicle or a pencil those actions have no impact on what happens in Woodson. Also, in fairness and to provide balance, I attempted to give the Board credit for purchasing laptops for Woodson school after the school’s computer equipment had been stolen.

I made it clear that the mold situation needs to be addressed. I also believe that the ventilation problems at Woodson are unacceptable, and should have been rectified a long time ago. In fairness, it must be acknowledged that Daryl Smalls, the Public Works Commissioner along with the Governor and Education officials have reported on the ventilation system that has been ordered for installation hopefully this Summer in Woodson.

Promises have been made and not kept before. Therefore, this is where I would keep my focus and apply the pressure to ensure that the project is completed in time for the reopening of school in August. Everything else is ancillary.

I’m telling people that if they need jokes, this is the site to come to. Just recently we heard of this “Note To Our Readers” comedy about not making this an attack site on people’s personal life. Here we have a thread about a brand new car for the Board of Education and it truns into an attack on Gary Molloy and his family.

Jokes on top of jokes on top of jokes people. Thanks for the laugh Crucians Out Of Focus.

  4. Ten Again on June 19, 2009 at 3:43 pm

It shouldn’t be funny. And actually it’s not. From the onset I felt that tying the VIBE vehicle to Woodson was a far stretch in an attempt to make a point. Then on top of that, people chose to unnecessarily drag Gary and Christa-Ann Molloy into the fray.

As I stated initially, we must be careful not to engage in unfair characterizations and unparallel comparisons which lead us away from finding real solutions to existing problems.

  5. Pandora on June 19, 2009 at 4:12 pm

Its not so much a stretch in the sense that it is a perfect example of our government’s misplaced priorities – a photo of a new car from ANY gov’t agency would have worked just as well.

I do agree however, that we should be careful about slandering people and engaging in ‘unfair characterizations’.

This site does a good job of posting stories that are otherwise ignored by the print and other electronic media. Let’s make that work for us – not turn it into a gossip mill.

In defense of this site where else would you see and read things that you would not see in the papers. It is our right and therefore FREE TO EXPRESS OURSELVES. I still find it strange that so much problems exist at Woodson’s school, but i do agree that we do need to be careful how we throw out accusations but it still leave you wondering. I plan to visit the school and get a good look at the school for myself. In reference to the car
just like how the children in the schools have to use old and outdated books why can VIBE purchase a second hand car. In support of the children and their situation
of old books/rusted desk/ ceiling falling/ nasty bathrooms/ teachers having to purchase supplies for their classrooms.

Pandora, give it a rest. Who out the Molloy family is responsible for the car in question at VIBE? The intent of this thread was never about misplaced priorities, but rather to re-direct the conversation to the family of the STX superintendent, who’s wife happens to be an administrator at Woodson Junior High. Stop making excuses for this, as you said, gossip mill of a site.

The purpose of this site is to focus on issues that are concerns to the public. Therefore, the point I wish to make it it is a terrible message that VIBE needs to correct the problems of the public schools, instead of buying a car. What has the BOE done lately to improve the public educational system?

It is clear that the DOE and BOE are separate entities with distinct roles & responsibilities. However, the children of our territory should be both of them priority. Evidently, neither entity cares enough about the children. Recall that Terrence Joseph, former member of BOE, give himself a grant? That’s an example of how BOE members abuse the system and misappropriate funds. Why is it necessary for the BOE to purchase this car? Can’t each member drive his/her own car and use the funds towards the betterment of the children?

The issue of the car brings to light the conflict of interest of the Molloys. I use to wonder why others never discuss this matter on the airwaves. Do the Molloys get funds from the DOE to run their school? Do they use some of the resources from the public schools? If a child can not be properly educated in a public school, why should they be motivated to attend the Molloys’ school? What do they have that is lacking in the public schools?

In my opinion, the federal government should investigate the Molloys. When Gary Molloy was principal of CHS, he was hated by many teachers and students. I heard that he was a tyrant and the morale of the faculty & staff declined. There was no improvement made to CHS and fighting in the school actually increased. He is now superintendent. Have anyone noticed an improvement in the public school system? Compare their school to the public schools. Which deserve the most attention? Where are their priorities?

Tell me I was hearing wrong when Mario just said he has documents showing the Governor has done hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of upgrades to his private residence with the taxpayers money. This was done through PFA and Homeland Security. The PFA is chaired by Governor deWolf and Homeland Security is headed by the Governor’s brother-in law Mel Vanterpool.
    LORD SEND HELP!

The car seems small in comparison

  12. BETTY on June 20, 2009 at 6:10 pm

De Jongh supporters seem to be trying to rationalize about the gov’s tiefing PFA $ to upgrade his personal property. This cannot be justified. How can this administration be so blatant? I think the caller to Mario’s show may have had something when he said the gov. will probably not run again. Between this and the diablo deal, he will have made enough to live well in one term.
What can we do about it?

  13. Busted on June 20, 2009 at 11:07 pm

Those documents should be forwarded to the US Inspector General. Clearly AG Fraser is involved in this mess as he signed the contracts for legal sufficiency. This site needs to post those documents so we don’t have to comment under an unrelated article.

  14. U-Turn on June 21, 2009 at 2:04 am

Why call the Federal Government when we have our own VI Investigator. Based on all the hearsay you have why don’t you lead the charge? There are conflict of interests laws in the V.I. Code. Here is my suggestion…do some research then put up or shut up.

Mr. Molloy was appointed to CHS because the school lost accreditation. It gain accreditation after he got there. He was appointed superintendent and in 2008 spearheaded the largest attendance of hundreds of personnel, parents, government and civic leaders to the renowned Model School Conference in Orlando.

Recently, he initiated the very first St. Croix Best Practices Conference (and the first of its kind in the territory) in collaboration with the International Center for Leadership in Education.

This week hundereds of personnel and others will once again be attending the upcoming Model School Conference in Atlanta. Additionally administrators are shortly expected to be in professional development in New York, while during the summer various personnel will be attending different conferences from the west to the east coast throughout the U.S.

Under his leadership promethean electronic boards have been installed in all schools in the district. Within the next year it is expected that most if not all classrooms in the St. Croix district will contain a promethean board.

So, INVESTIGATE and after you have done the research and have the facts and have the necessary comparisons of the schools in question come back and inform us.

  15. Busted on June 21, 2009 at 7:38 am

U-Turn, my reference to the US Inspector General was regarding the comments of the Governor using PFA funds to improve his mansion. It is unrelated to the comments on the Molloys or the subject of the article. In addition, since we have our local chief prosecutor involved, a local IG without prosecutorial power, and a local IG who told senators he doesn’t have the resources necessary to conduct an audit of the Legislature, I thing the US IG would be the best step forward. In the future, I’ll refrain from posting unrelated comments or make it clear that they are unrelated to the primary subject.

  16. U-Turn on June 21, 2009 at 8:27 am

Busted, my comments were squarely focused on those made by VI Investigator who said that the federal government should investigate the Molloys. And my use of the name VI Investigator was a direct reference to that alias used above in a previous posting with pun intended.

The discussion of the allege use of PFA funds to improve the governor’s house is important and does need to be investigated. I do not recall but Governor Schneider may have done something similiar.

  17. Annie on June 21, 2009 at 8:44 am

And the Inspector General serves at the pleasure of the Governor. Fat chance he will investigate the Gov.

Feds and the Department of the Interior are needed. Or the IG WITH the Department of the Interior. Former Senator Ottley should jump in with both feet since he is now in Washington.

  18. Disappointed on June 21, 2009 at 9:24 am

Right on sister (Annie). Nothing will get investigated with the local IG regarding the current administration. Is Steven VanBeaverholt(spelled wrong) even a CPA?

  19. EyesWideOpen on June 21, 2009 at 9:28 am

PFA funds to improve the governor’s house?

    No way!

    No how!

    Not possible!

I must be dreaming; this simply cannot be happening!

An explanation or a clarification is absolutely warranted.

Mr. Public Relations Person, we are waiting for your response.

  20. BETTY on June 21, 2009 at 10:55 am

EyesWideOpen, you are expressing my feelings. This topic warrents its own heading as Busted suggests. I’m concerned that this matter (the use of gov. funds to enhance private property) will be swept under the rug.
