The abrupt resignation of Dr. Mercedes Dullum from her post as Commissioner of Health surprised some, and came as no shock to others. Her short tenure in the post has raised intense speculation as to what could have forced such a swift and emphatic departure.
Well we can't know for sure, but the recent audit of the Medicare program in the VI might have had something to do with it. To see what she was facing, and understand how the inability to fill out a form has cost the Territory hundreds of thousands of dollars, click here.
The Grand Jury that has been impaneled in the Virgin Islands is focusing its investigation on Sen. Alvin Williams, reliable sources have confirmed to CIF.
Williams, a St. Thomas representative whose legislative office was raided at least once by federal authorities, is the Chairman of the Human Services, Parks and Recreation Committee and, prior to the office raid, was the target of public controversy surrounding allegations that he had used his office staff and resources to obtain an online college degree.
Speculation is rife about the depth of the investigation and the individuals who are being called to testify. Considering all that has transpired that we believe warrant investigation and action, we can only hope that those who are hearing testimony hand down indictments that may be the most effective method to begin to repair the tattered shreds of government in the Virgin Islands.
More than half of the contributions Delegate to Congress Donna Christensen has received in the current election cycle are linked to a Washington contractor who is the subject of a federal inquiry.
According to an article today in the Washington Post, Christensen has received at least $37,000 from contractor Jeffrey Thompson, who is suspected of using “straw” or phantom donors to evade contribution limits that are set for candidates running for office. His operations have drawn the attention of Federal authorities.
According to the article, Thompson’s accounting firm Thompson, Cobb, Brazilio and Associates, has 189 contracts with the federal government, worth $17.1 million. The company has done some business in the Virgin Islands, auditing grant funds awarded by the U.S. Department of Education and the Federal Highway Administration. TCBA recently advertised for an accounting position based in Saint Thomas, Virgin Islands.
Recently, Christensen has urged the Federal Election Commission to investigate the election system of the Virgin Islands, citing public discontent with the way the Board of Elections in operating. Perhaps this current development will hasten their acceptance of her request.
As many of you heard recently, CIF President Michael Springer, at left, delivered the first in a series of radio announcements that will target specific issues and offer analysis on our most pressing concerns.
The feedback on the comments was extremely positive, so CIF will sponsor then as often as possible, and we thank those of you who have already donated! But airtime costs money and we're seeking your help.

Be sure to click on the link below to see the latest iReport on our crippling corruption and scroll down to the comments. A wolverine posting under the name of "Bornyah" is trying to tell the world that the information that's getting some widespread attention is just "half-truth" from "disgruntled" people.
Nice try, Keep on reading and posting people. And send these links to everyone you know!
This past weekend, one of our CIF bloggers started a campaign to post the stories of our discontent on CNN iReports. If you scroll through the blogs from the past three days, you will see that this campaign has grown some very long legs in a very short time.

Exactly right, Sojourner!
Enlighten me Scholar. Am I to assume that you are big on Madison University of no history and ragging on Antioch College with 150+ years of education and civil rights activity? Or did you just merely try to change the topic away from the fact that Senator Donastorg attempted to use a diploma mill as his source of his vast brilliance and knowledge. Inquiring minds would like to know.
Daily News Reader…I did not say any such a thing. But going to a school where a write up is given instead of a grade, does not say very much for performance. But let me ask you, since you are such a big fan of the Daily News, did you get an invite to Govt House for the reception for the new owners? That was quite a stategic move on behalf of the administration, don’t you think? No wonder why we getting 2 pages of cartoons.
Is this an information site, or just a hangout where folks can vent about everything bad that exists in the Virgin Islands. If some of you believe life in the VI is so bad, go to Haiti or something. All I’m hearing is whining and hating.
Is it me, (Call Me Dense), or has anyone else noticed that the Daily Olds oops!! I mean Daily News has come out with a copy of the Proposed Constitution only now that Governor dewolf oops!!! I mean deJongh has rejected it? I was able to go online and read parts of it. But what about the countless others who couldn’t or didn’t?

This is still the USVI where we are free to speak. We don’t need to travel anywhere. If you have trouble communicating or listening to other points of view simple, don’t log on. The point of the site is to share info whether it sings praises or bitches and moans. It is a venue for ALL
Since the intelligence or the education of the Gov, is now an issue, let’s focus to the language of the draft. How many grammatical errors and vagueness do you detect?
Compare this document to the proposal of Delegate Doc. Petersen.Which of these shows mastery of the English language?
Read the preamble carefully. It is an embarrassment, yet the glaring grammatical errors and contradictions are not issues. Perhaps, President Barack Obama should be given a copy. I am curious to hear his reaction to the document. Would he accept such poorly written draft? Do we expect the Congress to proofread the document and correct the grammatical mistakes? Send these U.S. officials a copy. We might get a response from one.
The Gov. spared the VI shame. If we cannot get delegates to at least proofread the document, why should we expect more federal funds for education.? The delegates ignored the guidelines to write our constitution, but are now angry that the Gov. has not forwarded the draft. This is a perfect example of hypocrisy.
Verdel L. Petersen “The Crucian EDUCATOR:
Please don’t go there. For an EDUCATOR, you talking about grammatical errors is like “the kettle calling the pot black”.
“Perhaps, President Barack Obama should be given a copy….Send these U.S. officials a copy”.
Ms Petersen, that’s the LAW.
Thank you. (You DO have sense)!!!!!!!!!!!
Mr. Donastorg,
Maintain your composure, don’t let the few who think they are in control throw you out of balance. We need you to run for Governor, but you can’t win over the people who believe in you now if you are out of balance. Stay your course. Keep your composure. You may lose the fight, but think of the battle…
A supporter in STX.
Hill, Barshinger and Sanes are live on 93.5 fm right now.
Damage Control!!!
They sounded like they know what they were talking about to me. Barshinger actually called out Foncie for his actions with the Caribbean Auto Mart document claiming what he did was criminal. The saga continues.
Hill and ‘Santos’ and Barshinger were smoke and mirrors. They clouded every answer justifying the $95K, $85K salaries they make. ‘Santos’ even said he works 24/7! Gee I have not heard that line since Ronnie was in office. If indeed he does, why does he miss so many committee meetings?
Bottom line, US senators make a whole lot less, get more done for a whole lot more people in half the session time.
Cut all government salaries in excess or $75K.
Annie,
US Senators make more, but that’s expected-they represent their states (usually several million people) and, in effect, the entire United States.
VI Senators are one of the highest paid ‘state legislatures’ in the country-only California and a few other states pay legislators more. I would argue that our Senators are paid the most proportionally when we look at constituency size.
I heard Senators King of the Hill, Bassinger and Sanes today on the radio and what it disaster it was. I could not understand whether they were for an audit or not. I was truly disappointed it was a bash Senator Donastorg. I am convince they are totally lost and trying to shift the focus of the entire issue. Terrible job at deception. Lets put Senator Donastorg aside for a second, are they going to support an audit or not. Are they considering this is what the people want and expect? Were they saying today all the Senators who voted for the audit were just casting a smokescreen as well? What the point was is beyond me. I truly hope Senator Bassinger has the facts to back up his claim of falisification. I am truly looking forward to seeing who is lying. I could hardly wait for Senator Donastrog response.
Barshinger keeps saying something was falsified, but what exactly? He has not yet said what was false about the car situation. I think this is a huge smokescreen and he is just embarassed that he was caught soliciting proposals for new vehicles. These guys all sounded way out of touch to me.
Anyone curious as to why Hill and others reject even the thought of an audit? Could it have anything to do with the PFA? Things that make you go hmmmm….
