As the Chairperson for the Committee on Education, Youth and Culture, first-term Senator Janette Millin-Young has received more notoriety for her travel preferences than for any substantive actions to address the glaring issues in our educational system.
Thought of initially as one who would quietly follow, Millin-Young has shown recent faint glimmers of enlightenment, but our jury is still out on where she will fall as we enter a phase where all elected officials will be called upon to take a stand – on one side of the line or the other.
But for now, it’s your opinion we’re interested in. If the election was held today…
As many of you heard recently, CIF President Michael Springer, at left, delivered the first in a series of radio announcements that will target specific issues and offer analysis on our most pressing concerns.
The feedback on the comments was extremely positive, so CIF will sponsor then as often as possible, and we thank those of you who have already donated! But airtime costs money and we're seeking your help.
If you'd like to help keep our voices on the air, please donate whatever you can using the PayPal button below. We thank you in advance for your support.
Be sure to click on the link below to see the latest iReport on our crippling corruption and scroll down to the comments. A wolverine posting under the name of "Bornyah" is trying to tell the world that the information that's getting some widespread attention is just "half-truth" from "disgruntled" people.
Nice try, Keep on reading and posting people. And send these links to everyone you know!
This past weekend, one of our CIF bloggers started a campaign to post the stories of our discontent on CNN iReports. If you scroll through the blogs from the past three days, you will see that this campaign has grown some very long legs in a very short time.

LEON KENDALL STRIKES AGAIN.
Don’t let the Attorney General’s office off the hook, either. They negotiated that sweetheart deal. Then they expect us to believe they are serious about crime and gun violence in this community? Why would they offer a plea in what seems to be a open and shut case like this?
You are right Show Me. But isn’t there a MANDATORY sentence for firearm possession? And why are his records going to be expunged? And why was he given UNSUPERVISED probation? This whole thing is so stink, but it smells just like a LEON KENDALL.
HOW MUCH LOWER ARE YOU ALL GOING TO GO/ mr.springer everyone know that you were part of a big drug ring, should that be held against you for the rst of your life?foncie had a close family member that was killed because of drug related activities, should we hold that against foncie?let us stick to the issues.it is amazing how all of a sudden dirts are flinging alll over at each other..everyone of yopu soundsd dangerous.
Vanessa: Remember, “How great “Dowe” art. And liberty and justice for SOME.
THANK YOU VERNE HODGE.
I think the political culture in the V.I. is corrupt. The ones who are in the wicked circle, takes care of each other. But, time will tell..what they do now will come back and haunt them or generations to come.
How sleazy! I am all for judicial discretion, but how does this work when sentences for unlicensed firearms are mandatory? How many other young people (without the benefit of being a senator’s son and having an ex-senator defend them)get to skate like this? All those convicted under the mandatory sentencing laws need to cry foul! Also, if this was an unlicensed gun I guess he bought it illegally. Hah! I wonder where he got it. Did the good judge ask?
I’m still waiting the charge and sentence for a drunk Emmit Hansen who has a plum job (still) as a police recruiter! No new police in the over two years he has been hired by McCall, totals a taxpayer SUV and three months later, NO ACTION from our protectors of the people!
I guess it just depends on who you are and Fraser and McCall look the other way for politics sake and FORGET why they are here and just who it is they protect and SERVE. And at a very high salary and perks to boot!
We need a shake up and shake down of the police department because there is a lot of policemen that are corrupt. When the police are not at a level that deserve respect people unfortunately take matters into their own hand. Which is what is going on in these Virgin Islands. The people have no respect for the police. Not only should we change the head(the commissioner) but we should investigate the corruption that has caused crime to spiral out of control.
I have been checking for comments on this thread for days now – I guess people don’t really care about this. It is really a shameful story.
Pandora:
It’s not that people don’t care. Have you ever felt HOPELESS. You know something is gravely wrong but there is NOTHING that you can do about it. The good judge made his decision and WHAT can we do? The ONLY thing that I (without any legal background) will suggest is that ALL FUTURE YOUNG MEN WHO MAY BE CAUGHT WITH A WEAPON DO IS ASK FOR (NO, DEMAND) A DEAL LIKE THE ONE SENATOR DOWE’S SON RECEIVED. You see how ridiculous it sounds? Telll me, Pandora, WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST?
I am now going to launch my findings for those who may not know. How can anyone be surprise that Sleezy Dowe would be such a critical part of yet another conspiracy; in this case his son? I discovered this same Senator was involve in a cover up where he stole supplies from Home Depot. Did the good Governor not sweep this under the rug as well. Interesting! And was he not the one who was indicted on case of defrauding the Government? Now they have put the same Senator to chair the finance committee. Wow, the Wolf guarding the Chicks. What a territory. Well, the survellance in on.
This is just crazy! But there is corruption all over the government. The Lieutenant Governor Office is practically in blows because of mis management. The lady in the UCC divison is never on the job. Who is checking on these things? What is actually going on in the government?
