Comfort In Times Of Discomfort

April 25, 2009

We are hoping Senator Barshinger can let us know what his priorities are. If the current fleet of Legislature vehicles are too costly to maintain, our senators should consider mileage allowance in these challenging times. The funds they would spend on these cars could go towards many other critical needs that our current revenues are unable to cover. Get your priorities straight Senator Barshinger.

craig you are just another crook like the rest of them oh i almost forgot you were stealing power from wapa so this does not surprise me. all you ever do with the cars is smash them.you are just a big fraud and a waste of tax payers money.when you lose in 2010 you need to pack your bags and leave the VI.

Gee, the senators JUST GOT new SUV’s right before the 27th legislature started while Turnbull was still in office. Maybe that was part of the ACT 6905 deal Turnbull made with the lowlife senators for a vote to add a million to his retirement package. In any event, something is fundamentally wrong with cars under warranty and a tax payer funded motor pool in the legislature for the two year old vehicles to be ‘falling apart’. You have to ask yourself just who is driving the SUV’s besides our senators.

Those cars were actually purchased when Senator Liburd was president of the Legislature. I don’t remember when that was however they are probably 5-7 years old. My car is over 14 years old and runs well. I see no reason to give up those vehicles. What shocks me is the insensitivity to the tough times we are going through. It appears some of these senators have a major disconnect from the people.

All SUV’s were replaced before the 27th legislature was seated with bigger gas guzzling units than when Rocky initiated. Article is in the Daily News archives. Craig confirmed on a morning talk show the SUV’s were ‘falling apart’ after a little more than two short years which is why he sought a ‘bid’. Maybe Jimmy Weber needs the commissions this time around (again) now that he is without an $85,000 job!

This is a letter TO Senator Barshinger from an auto dealer. Why is he being blamed for RECEIVING a proposal. Where is the proof he supported this idea? I don’t see any. Any of us could be smeared this way, if we received a letter. Who is screening what is put on this site?

It is clear that we agree collectively that it is outrageous for the members of the majority to own back taxes while we must pay our taxes; that member(s) of the majority want(s) the government to pay their political debt while we must pay our personal debt; and now members of the majority want to buy new cars. This matter of the majority gets worst each day. I think in the end it will have been determined that it was in the best interest of Senator Donastorg to have separated himself from this majority. In nature, life forms evolve but when Mother Nature has had enough, certain life form begins to devolve. They begin to regress, not progress. Here in my beloved Virgin Islands, I am witnessing a depressing regression of where we once were to what we are becoming: an ass-backwards, third-world government. I am truly sicken by all this for I feel personally reasonable for this mess because I voted for “Positive”, “Doc. James’ Son,” “Nellie,” “The Designer,” “Thurland,”and “Usie.” I did this for them; what have they done in service for me? Thinking people are now left with one of two choices: either run away to the mainland to save ourselves or run for the legislature to save our islands. What do we do: Flee or Fight?

Seeking Truth: I think he’s being blamed because he submitted it to the Senate President. He should have rebuffed the offer if he were fiscally responsible.

Annie: Your revelation comes as a surprise to me. I don’t remember any noise about new cars in recent years on the talk shows. I’ll look for the article you referenced.

When folks lie blatantly just to be part of a crybaby crowd, all you can do is laugh. The current fleet is the same fleet that was indeed purchased by then President Liburd in 2002. Talk about a bunch of folks who have no life at all. Visit cruciansinfocus.com people.

Crybaby crowd? Please expound or illustrate.

Side Bar: Do not look for much discourse for the next few days; the people-them want to party: its carnival baby! Yes, go spend all your tax money in St. Thomas. Let us hope next school year when the economy is much worst, you would not be wishing you had that tax money to buy school clothes. However, to hell with that! Spend it all now! By the way, where is St. Croix’s UMB in the carnival village line-up: nowhere?

Am I missing something? I only became aware of the Legislature vehicle issue while listening to a talk radio show. Are there additional documentation relating to this issue? I’m asking because I read the attached document above and it seems to be an unsolicited proposal from an auto dealer whose trying to reduce his inventory. I don’t see anything improper about the dealer’s action. After all, he is in the business of selling cars. I also don’t see anything improper on the part of anybody at the Legislature, simply because the letter was addressed to them. while I am no fan of Sen. Barshiger, i cannot see how he can be blamed for the contents of what is sent to him – unsolicited. Now, my comment is based entirely on the attached document. If there’s more, I apologize for commenting out of ignorance, but this document alone doesn’t convince me of ANYTHING other than Caribbean Auto Mart is trying to move some cars off of its lot. (Where’s any reference to Chevy Tahoes?)

When you are at the cross road and the ground vibrates, and a signal sounds, and an object appears, you should not have to be struck to realize it is a TRAIN.

This kind of mindset is why most politicians take us for asses instead of the masses.

Side Bar: A kind-a like the Queen on the chessboard; the freshman senator is the only STX senator so far who has impressed me. She is much smarter than her male colleagues are.

  14. Who representing we? on May 2, 2009 at 12:15 pm

My fellow Virgin Islanders read between the lines. Yes the existing vehicles were bought when Liburd was president and his right hand man White was majority leader. Pay attention although they may not be in office or in the majority believe this they stay pulling strings. So many have fallen to there controle, Cole, Malone and Williams. When will we the people wake up and see the curruption that is right under and displayed promenatly under our noses. Ask yourselves this how many senators, commissioners and any other government official who drives a vehical bought by our taxes have their own vehicle? Would they allow the crazy gas fluctuations to occure if they had to come out of pocket themselves to pay for gas? Have any of yo seen what Barshinger drives? a beat down red Ford minivan that was towed for either being abandoned or parking were he wasnt suppose to park at the Red Hook Dock. It probably broke down. Remeber this, if you aren’t the one spending for something do you really take care of it as if you were the one working for it. This is typical of our officials many of those SUV’s are broken because of miss use and dont care attitudes. When you drive your vehicle and the engine or oil light comes on dont you go get it check? They dont they keep going till it stops. It would be a shame if carribean motors disclosed any information regarding the maintianance and repairs of those vehicles.

I am looking for “the smoking gun”. Where is the “rejected request?” Come on people, we have to be able to COMPREHEND what we are reading.

  16. Sojourner Truth on May 18, 2009 at 6:59 am

Don’t be side-tracked by the purchase of some cars. We know the job comes with a car. The Senators could have a brand new car every year if they “really” did the peoples work. Accomplishment, that is what we need. What work do they actually get done. Some of the things they pass never happen. Why? Does anyone follow up? When do we say “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH” and really mean it.

  17. Call Me Dense on May 18, 2009 at 8:01 am

    Sojourner Truth:
Don’t be fooled. If you follow this thread slowly and CAREFULLY, you will see that there was NEVER a request for new cars. Again, COMPREHENSION, COMPREHENSION, COMPREHENSION.

  18. EyesWideOpen on May 18, 2009 at 6:36 pm

You say COMPREHENSION; I say CONTEMPLATION.

I think it is more about CONTEMPLATION.

We COMPREHEND that the Majority CONTEMPLATES purchasing new cars in this guava-crop time.

We have COMPREHENDED that they have CONTEMPLATED ways of not modifying Act. 6905.

We still COMPREHEND that they still CONTEMPLATE paying a $13,000.00 political bill.

We COMPREHEND that at least one of them CONTEMPLATES resurfacing his senate office floor with expensive, imported material.

It is NOT what we COMPREHEND; more so,it is WHAT they CONTEMPLATE!

  19. Call Me Dense on May 19, 2009 at 1:01 am

    Eyes Wide Open/SHUT:

You “comprehend that they contemplated to buy new cars”. What IGNORANCE!

  20. EyesWideOpen on May 19, 2009 at 8:22 am

Speaking of IGNORANCE, it seems as if you are not only ignoring the THREAD OF EVIDENCE, but you are as well ignoring the PIERCING NEEDLE OF FACT.

    Do you comprehend?

Anyone can easily win a bet that the Majority is still CONTEMPLATING ways of JUSTIFYING the PURCHASING new cars.
