We Don’t Believe It
We just don’t believe it.
We listened to that disgrace of a Legislative session on Thursday, heard all the trumped up reasons for ousting Senate President Adlah “Foncie” Donastorg and despite all the dramatics, we just don’t believe it.
Suddenly the responsibility for the dismal performance of the 28th Legislature falls on the shoulders of one man. They held him responsible for the lack of bills on the agenda – bills that have not yet been drafted. When he asked why there were no more agenda items, he was subjected to a barrage of profanity and abuse – but no answers.
We just don’t believe any of this is the reason this action was taken.
Suddenly, he’s not a “team player.” Suddenly, he is the reason that no progress has been made at a time when a devastated economy, rising crime rate and crumbling infrastructure should be at the forefront of everything this Legislature considers.
We believe it has everything to do with Donastorg’s advocacy of the transparency that the VI Legislature continues to resist.
We believe it has to do with the now ex-President’s call for the repeal of Act 6905 and the impact that action would have on the salaries of the Legislature and other government officials.
We believe that it has to do with his call for a full audit of the Legislature, which would open the books to the constituency that body is elected to serve.
We believe that it has to do with his selection of a non-majority member to attend a conference in the States instead of a member of the then majority group – yes, even something that insignificant – we believe has an impact on this shameful action.
Whatever it is, Virgin Islanders, take note. Take note that the one who wanted to bring the truth into the light has been pushed into the darkness.
Take note and take heed. “Change” has not come to the Virgin Islands.

Boy you sound like you need therapy O Cintron this thing is eating you up. Well I know it makes no sense to beat a dead horse it’s only alive in minds of people who envy the people who can put themselves out there to run a campaign and to come up against harsh public scrutiny. Yeah they deserve every bit of 85k, because they have to face the bashing and trashing by people like you who can’t put yourself out there and be a public servant.
They deserve the $85k because the voters, especially in the St. Thomas district, keep re-electing the same bunch of crooks. Diageo, 6905, and the chronic issues that remain unresolved apparently weren’t sufficient reasons for the STT electorate to make changes, despite all the whining they did on AMVI. The senators in that district have every right to that $85k gift. Their constituents approved it on election day.
let me inform you crucian to
me heart, your senator usie richards is no saint. ask him who is paying for his attorney fees? remember the sexual harrassment suit,we the people of the VI is paying. you need to get your facts about your great senator straight before you make your mouth big. he is just another one of the crooks that gets over the people of the VI.check with the legislature about the amount of tax payers money that has already been paid to defend this pervert senator from st croix. you and all the others who believes he is such a great person should have a daughter so he can do the same thing to them.then you will know the real truth. get the facks and get back to me, I will be waiting.
We get the government that we deserve. Majority rules. Obviously, having sleazy characters in the Senate is not a concern of most people. What kind of people like being represented by these crooks in office? What bills have been adopted so far by this legislature? If you can’t beat them, join them. Selling drugs & pussy in an underground economy is more profitable than being a senator. The only difference between these two type of crooks is that one is elected and the other is appointed.
I would ask that we not lose sight of the issue. They type of personalizing that is starting to occur in these posts is precisely why this situation continues year after year.
This isn’t about one or two Senators; this is about a mindset that allows this culture of cronyism to pervade the decision making processes that are shaping the future of the Virgin Islands.
This is about apathy and low expectations. Seriously. I listened to that session. These are the lawmakers? God help us all.
Peace.
Personalizing is necessary, since character of an elected official influence their decision. Greedy, selfish and dishonest people run for public office to become even more influential and enriched. Their interests are above others. Let’s not lose sight of the issue of transparency. My mindset is that we must pay attention to what’s happening in local politics and make sure we do not repeat the mistake of re-electing the same scoundrels.
Like I say put yourselves out there and run for public office. Envy is the root of evil. You wouldn’t put yourself out there because you prefer to sit and critize for the sake of it. Most of us don’t realize how often we battle with our ego. You need to seek understanding to this personality. It’s not always easy for us to be at peace with the circumstances and events of our lives.
A worthy thought:
It is understanding that gives us an ability to have peace. When we understand the other person’s viewpoint, and receive understanding of our own, then we can sit down and work out our differences.
Adopted from Harry S. Truman
85k you wouldn’t turn your back on it if you were a sentor. Even Nellie changed her mind. Please give it up your beating a dead horse.
I have to laugh.
Just for the record, and so you’ll know my ego is intact.
It’s not envy.
85k would be a pay cut for me.
Focus on the message.
Peace. Out.
How can we ever strive for ETHICS, MORALS, and VALUES in government when people justify the HYPOCRITICAL PRACTICE of SOME of our legislators? SENATOR N. JAMES said he had NOT supported Act6905 DURING THE 26th Legislature. He had absented himself during the vote. He subsequently had gone on the talk shows and lambasted Berry, Hill, et al for their support of Act6905. Most recently during the last election, he said more than once that he would support a repeal of Act 6905. Therefore, I casted one of my votes for him. Without a question, I fully expect him to KEEP his word, not BREAK his word; to be HONEST, not DISHONEST; to be SINCERE, not INSINCERE; to be MORAL, not IMMORAL; and to be TRUSTWORTHY, not UNWORTHY. To my shock, on Saturday, April 18, 2009, I heard (so did others) Sen. N. James said to Mario on Radio 1620 that he had agreed with his majority “NOT TO MAKE Act6905 an issue.” This is hypocrisy by all standards, and persons acting as such are by definition hypocritical. Equally, I find repulsive the unabashed gall of those of you who are, without restraint of decency, actually supporting this nonsense. I expect a man to keep his word. Senator N. James has not only broken his word, but he has also thrown it away. I guess he is following the DARK ART-OF-POLITICS by Niccolo Machiavelli, The PRINCE.
It would be a dishonor for me to serve in the VI Senate. These crooks do not deserve to be called honorable. They deceived the electorate;they made campaign promises exploiting the desperate and ignorant. I make an honest and good salary. My lifestyle is great.I do not envy any senator. Being winners of a popularity contests do not prove that they have integrity and are the best representatives. The voters are sometimes swayed by who keeps the best fish fry or who give out the most t-shirts.They happen to have the gift of gab. They can charm a snake out of its skin.
Hey Holy Smokes,
I can unequivically tell you that Senator Hill will be providing the media with the total account of how much Senators Richard and Donastorg spent on Senator Usie Richards sexual harrassment case. During a Democratic Party Meeting, Senator Hill assured a member of the media he would release this information. We will now wait to see what is forthcoming. As he indicated, he will provide the contract along with all invoices and checks that were issued to the respective attorney. I can’t wait to see this published in the news paper. The saga continues.
James and Thurland are NOW proposing a bill form a ‘salary commission’!!!! Gee guys, the horse is already out of the barn. Why not just repeal 6905 and not add MORE government employees for a commission who would most likely be on the take for senators looking for additional taxpayer money???
Stupid idea. We need an up or down vote from the 28th legislature on ACT 6905 so we know were ALL of you greedy jerks stand once and for all!
hey colette, thanks for letting us know about the payments. I want you to know please keep your eyes on louis hill he has a personal axe to grind with ricards and donastorg. if you look at him in his pictures he looks like napolion bonapart with his aragontnist. he was by past 2times for the president seat now he is on top of the world. cant you see the only way he could get the president seat is by a coup. so now he has the famous name president louis koko hill.
Again, I say all of them are crooks. The cat and dog fights will continue. The people appear to enjoy the hypocrisies, ironies and melee.
It is interesting that some compared his Excellency HILL with NAPOLEON: hence having a NAPOLEONIC COMPLEX. Such a profound comparison, it almost struck me as lightening. Is he experiencing DELUSIONS OF GRANDEUR? As Napoleon had his Battle of Waterloo so would Hill have his…
He is clever and well-spoken, but still a crook.

what a stunning revolation, it seems like little louie has his staff working overtime. people on the streets are saying start packing your bags. we have also found out that little louie”s family came from there native island of DOMINICA and within 1 week there VISA”S were processed. we also found out that they live in the townhouse section at fortuna that the HFA ownes, how could that be when there are so many people waiting to get a home in the VI.did his friend sen. white arrange these housing accomadations.
Hill the Opportunist is running for governor next time around. The positive point is that we can rid ourselves of him in the senate for 2 years when he loses. Of course he will do everything in his kingdom to embarrass ANY potential candidate and discredit any member of the senate who may be a threat. Throwing Usie and Donastorg under the bus will be viewed to some as ‘transparency’ and look at how open and honest I am. Let’s see the ‘privilege’ of ALL bills entered into legal when they are presented, i.e. remove the pre-empt bull, create a bill to counter 6905 and eliminate the raises AND the added benefits, and THEN we will see if Louie is real or just another crook. Has anyone noticed the first picture on the LEGIT web was of Hill looking like a mug shot….the current one looks like a used car salesman!
The metamorphic and illusive nature of the newly re-constituted majority is so …, that they have been described as The Band of Eight Majority, The Band of Conspirators, The Band of Pirates, The Band of Bandits, The Bandits of Eight, The Bandits of the Legislature, and The Pirates of the Legislature.
As Pirates, they are assailed on a fleet of pirate ships. Ironically, their flagship name is being changed from THE MAJESTIC to THE MAL DE MER. One of them, historically wise, lettered, and widely traveled, is assailed seeking to raid EXPENSIVE MATERIAL TO RE-FLOOR AND RE-TILE his office(s); they are assailed seeking to raid the auto dealership(s) for NEW VESSELS; and they are assailed guarding that special island cay where they have buried their PRECIOUS TREASURE CHEST better known as ACT6905.
While this happening, we sit as if in a theater and look at it all as if it is the movie titled PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN. No! It is not a movie, and we are not moviegoers; it is real life.
We are the ELECTORS and they are the ELECTED.
They have been sent to the Legislature to do OUR WILL, not THEIR WILL.
