The Committee to Elect Michael Springer to the Senate has launched two more radio spots featuring Virgin Islands Senators in their own words. Once again, it is important that we remember what our “leaders” tell us. Too often we forget.
Political Arrogance
Misplaced Priorities

so mr springer will you please justify why you need an 85,000 a year salary when teacher, nurses cops, you know, people here that actually work for a living earn about half of that figure or less, and then can you explain why those same people have to put in 20 to 25 years for full retirement when the pampered senate does not,or why the senators get vehicles and the above listed people do not, truly mr springer why all the perks and benefits for a part time job when the important goverment employees have to struggle to make ends meet. I read your wordy and breathy rethoric in the papers and on this site and i don’t know i guess none of it impresses, well the cfo thing was interesting but where were you all those years ago when it was first brought up, now it just sounds like you’re jumping on a band wagon, i seem to recall when turnbull was in office evryone thought it was a bad idea but now that dejongh is in office it’s suddenly a good idea, please your obvious dislike of the man is too transparent, mapp lost remember

Well, well , well mr. springer looks like all those years in 9th grade really paid off. how many times were u detained? well none the less, looks like anyone feels they can run our government now. however i would like to know what is it u plan to do for our community? so far i haven’t heard yet or maybe i haven’t been able to sift through the mounding pile of BS. is it the $85,000 salary, maybe you have aspirations of being senate president and amass $95,000 or is it the fancy green trailblazer. by now Mosler should have given you enough $ to buy your own don’t u think? it takes more than just political trash talk be a senator. but then again u just may bring a different view point to the senate floor. instead of 2 minute recesses for the reporters we will have 5 minute “blunt” breaks so that u can concentrate and focus on the task at hand. so mr. springer do you think you are up to the challenge?

Mr. Dwane Callwood
Your AMVI radio presentation on Monday, October 20, 2008 appeared to have been well received, for the most part. If I were to grade it, I would assess a B+, primarily because you seem to be a straight-up guy with a passion to initiate change. However, as a potential supporter, I suggest that you amend one or more of your top three stated priorities, especially the first which was to facilitate the establishment of a food consortium to help lower food prices. For $85 K, you can do much better than that. Also, be careful not to become self-serving. You shouldn’t get to work (as a Marshall, police, etc.) 20 yrs. SIMPLY BECAUSE senators created a special retirement plan for themselves. Your motivation has to go beyond this.

Thank You for your critique of my presentation. I welcome and thank you for taking the time out to express your concerns and observations. I began to respond, but I realize it may be too lengthy to post as a blog entry. I’ll compose a guest article and submit it to this website and demmansay.com for publication.

I’ll take your comment about the food cooperative into consideration. Thanks again. The food cooperative is an important initiative to me, because the long-term benfits go far beyond the economics, but I do think your point is valid. This is the kind of interaction we should be having with our elected representatives on a year-round basis.
