New Year’s resolutions wishlist
#15 – Senator Russell resolving to remember he’s a lawyer the next time he decides to suggest his “crime fighting” proposal. The last thing we need is a proposal that works in favor of criminals & their defense attorneys.
#14 – Governor deJongh resolving to put competent leadership in the VI Police Department. Ignoring the offers of support from the Virgin Islands Retired Police Organization (VIRPO), while at the same time whining about the lack of officers, is a recipe for failure and disaster. It’s time for “Operation Clean Sweep”. The community deserves to be safe year-round, not just during Festival and Carnival.
#13 – St. Croix Senators resolving to work together towards a common goal of improving the Crucian quality of life. Forget your individual agendas and personal egos and work together to benefit the exceedingly patient people of St. Croix.
#12 – Heads of departments and agencies resolving to quit the practice of handing out lofty contracts to “perform” studies and “complete” tasks that can be handled by citizens of the Virgin Islands. Some of these contracts can be performed by high school and/or UVI students as classroom projects at little or no cost to our government.
#11 – The 27th Legislature’s minority caucus resolving to quit pontificating and start listening to the wishes of the public. The grandstanding has done nothing for our high WAPA bills, out of control crime rate, high education drop out rate, rising cost of living, etc. (p.s. We would be writing a book if we continued.)
#10 – Our elected officials resolving to work together to tackle many of the problems that are breaking the backs of hard working Virgin Islanders. There are many ideas available in the community for those senators who are clearly bankrupt of ideas. All it takes is an open mind and the willingness to listen.
#9 – Senator Williams resolving not to think of, or introduce, another bill such as the $300,000 flag redesign or the Lincoln Tech $6m plus annual giveaway.
#8 – Senator James resolving to humble himself when communicating with constituents. “Back off” just doesn’t cut it!
#7 – Governor deJongh resolving to either share his policies with his commissioners or find competent individuals to implement his policies. With commissioners confirmed, layers upon layers of management, deputies, aides, special assistants and policy advisers, there is no excuse for the lack of progress we’ve seen from this administration.
#6 – St. Croix Administrator Pedro ‘Pete’ Encarnacion resolving to accomplish something before his 4 years is up.
#5 – Senator Dowe resolving to show Governor deJongh and his entire cabinet how to “take night and make day.”
#4 – Senator Nelson resolving to put his words into action as Chairman of the Legislature’s Finance Committee. He demanded to be Finance Chair from the night of his first election victory, he repeats his disgust of the way the Executive branch hides information from the Legislature, yet what we’ve seen so far leaves us wondering. Maybe we’ll see something just before the next election.
#3 – Delegate Christiansen resolving to push hard for passage of the CFO bill. Maybe this will spur our elected officials to be a little more open with the state of our finances. (p.s. Just in case you’re having second thoughts, we encourage you to review any of the Finance Committee hearings of 2007.)
#2 – Governor deJongh resolving to use the concept of “Together We Can” to stem the growth of crime in the territory. Coordinate plans for fighting crime through the joint efforts of churches, community leaders, educators, parent/teacher associations, community organizations, the police department and commissioners of applicable departments to include the forgotten Youth Rehabilitation Center (YRC).
#1 – Senator White, the present majority leader, resolving to use his skills as “The Lubricant” to gather enough votes from his majority caucus to repeal Act 6905. After all, many of them were quite vocal in their testimony against the passage of Act 6905.

I cant wait for Russel, James, And Juan Serville to be out seated and replaced by young activist like Michael Springer and Michael Thurland……..keep up the good work Mr Springer…..need more organizations like yours.
I would like to see Dwane Callwood seated as a young, intelligent, caring and solution oriented senator. I trust he will consider running.
I totally agree with you Melvin…….he should run out of the Stt district, a new slate is definately needed.
Do you think senator Russell has a chance?
I am sick and tired of Mr. Hilton and likes of his kind talking down on Crucian Senators. Well if you don’t like how we do things here you can leave. Senators Russell, James and Serville can’t be bought, therefore you can’t push them around like others. When people like you can not get under their skin you want them out. Wake up Crucians don’t let them put your Senators out of office. Some people need to understand our culture and don’t try to confirm crucian people to your ways. We are who we are and if you can’t accept it move on.
Let’s focus on the issues and what we can do to better
the islands. While we focus on insignificant issues, others are focusing on real issues and bettering themselves. What are you going to do to address the
crisises we are facing-WAPA, violence, losing the younger generation and the hardships Virgin Islanders
are facing? Let’s be constructive and work together for the common good.
Totally Crucian, I’m a local…born, black and raise in estate whim, I’m tired of the misleadership from all those FORMER Senators you’ve mention. According to Obama its time for a CHANGE….you get it?
Sharlene,
What better place to start to better the islands than to ask for the truth behind those who claim to be agents of change?
Presenting oneself as an angel of light of when in truth they are a child of darkness is very significant when it comes to the credibility of leadership in a grass roots movement, wouldn’t you agree?
A hopeful public will neither overlook nor forgive such chacannery.
Your Worst Nightmare sounds a lot like David Cover did on AMVI yesterday. (get a life David)
As for Totally Crucian, I am 100% native and I sure ain’t voting for any of them. WAPA, WMA, GERS, PSC, VIPD…. With all these problems our leaders are silent, including Governor deJongh. Not one of them getting a vote from me.
Relief Needed,
Listen up. AMVI is too small time to be listened to since the host is one of CWT’s former ___________’s (squeek squeek).
Haven’t heard David Cover in some time. Apparently you’re not a fan, but you should consider telling him to get a life yourself.
Now that we have gotten past the strawmen, how about some answers to the questions? These WILL come back to haunt.
Totally Crucian is totally confused. Russell,James, and Serville are the midnight bandits who helped the passage of Act 6905. They were already bought before the 2006 election;Paul Golden gave all the Democrat Senators a huge campaign donation. They are indebted to Paul Golden, that’s why he’s a beneficiary of Act 6905.Why would anyone vote for senators who betrayed the electorate? They continue to rob our trust& treasury by blocking the repeal of Act 6905. Unless you’re also a beneficiary of Act 6905, how can praise the bandits? And since you are positive that they can’t be bought, would you like to assure as that none of these senators is blocking the repeal of Act 6905?
In order to form a more perfect paradise, I propose that the delegates to the 5th Constitutional Convention draft a constitution that establishes joyfulness and promotes love, unity, and equality. If all the inhabitants are permitted to live nude and express love freely, the Virgin Islands would be a better place. No one should be allowed to purchase land. We should just occupy the land, grow our own food, and just simply live off the land. Outsiders could be invited to join us if they agree to adopt our way of live. Imagine not worrying about paying WAPA bills and hustling to pay other bills. Would’nt life in paradise be more pleasurable if we could just live like my ancestors, the Carib Indians, who are the true indigenous Virgin Islanders? I wish Columbus did’nt discover my ancestral land. Damn! Now I have to share it with David Cover, Senator Russell, and those delegates who resent outsiders and only want so called native Virgin Islanders to own land. But because my ancestors were loving people who lived in harmony with nature, I embrace all people regardless of place of origin, creed, or culture. So, let’s disconnect WAPA and make love more often. Don’t worry, be happy!
I glad to hear all your comments and Iam not imprest. I still say some of you continue to help the St. Croix in a downward spin because of your prejudice of our local family members and friends who serve this community. I would rather live with these Senators in office than to have any of you sitting there. You are so negative and continue to destroy the people who put themselves out there for the betterment of St. Croix. I would like to see you put your self in the race. We all can sit on our thrones and have all the answers to the problems in the community, but would not put yourselves out there? I think I have the answer. You remind me of alot of people I sit with on committees and organizations. You can always see whats wrong with the plan, but you never come up with a better idea. Just talk, talk, talk, and no action, typical.
Relief Needed.
Go to Whim Mueseum and ask for assistance with tracing your family tree. As far as our research with typical Crucian family names we found that each family migrated here from elsewhere there is no 100% native. If you mean your 100% towards your pride as a crucian I will accept. I have great great great grandparents from european and caribbean backround. Know your roots. I am native to where I am born and would not trade it for the world. My pride is 100% crucian.
Totally Crucian means I am 100% for St. Croix Thank you.
Totally Crucian, the V.I. is not utopia but we can strive to make it a paradise. Sadly, it will remain in a state of confusion because of people like you who have false pride. I prefer to elect a person to office based on honesty and a positive record. Apparently, you elect senators for the simple reason that they are Crucians. The three Crucian senators who you defend have proven that they are not trustworthy. They betray us by passing Act 6905. Their actions showed that they are selfish and greedy.Besides being Crucian, can you explain why we should vote for them? Also, you appear confused when you state that to there is no 100% native. A native is a person who was born in the V.I. A person is either a native of the V.I. or a native of the place of birth. You are a native period. Persons like me who have Carib blood are indigenous Virgin Islanders. There is no pure race. My ancestry include Carib,African, and Danish. The Virgin Islands today has a diverse population. Why should we elect only people who were born in the V.I.? Please respond.
