While the cost of a barrel of oil continues to skyrocket, our Government has proposed a tax increase to the tune of $10 million via an increase in property taxes. By now you are aware of the astonishing proposal put forth by the VI Waste Management Authority for an “environmental usage fee” that will tax nearly everything that comes into the territory. The fee affects everything from food and milk to, literally, the kitchen sink. It applies to items purchased through retail outlets and items that enter the territory through the mail. I am writing this letter to express my support of Dr. Kendall Griffith, interventional cardiologist and medical director at the Governor Juan Luis Hospital and Medical Center (JLH). Dr. Griffith was born and raised here on St. Croix and has returned to provide quality healthcare to the people of the Virgin Islands.
